Broadway Wharf -- November 26, 2013

This plaque at Drumm and Broadway marks the site of the Broadway Wharf, where Pony Express mail arrived in San Francisco.  I don't know why "River Steamers" is in quotes.  The ferry Oakland did not carry Pony Express mail.  The steamer Chrysopolis did carry Pony Express mail.  In later years, it was rebuilt into the Southern Pacific ferry Oakland.  The Oakland survived until 1940.

Pony Express -- May 20, 2010

With people celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express, I thought it worthwhile to post a photo of Thomas Holland's Pony Express statue in Old Sacramento. It was dedicated in 1976. I took the photo on 17-April-2010.

TR Takes to the Air -- April 3, 2010

Former President Theodore Roosevelt takes his first ride on an airplane, on 11-October-1910. The pilot is Arch Hoxsey, a member of the Wright Brothers' exhibition team. Hoxsey died in a crash on 31-December-1910.

We went out to do some shopping this afternoon and saw huge waves pounding Rockaway Beach. We stopped at Mazzetti's Bakery to get Easter goodies.

Today is the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express.
