Dispatches from the front XXV - A changing of the guard.

Club night and another outing for the Eagle of Empires and the Seocnd Schleswing War, a hard fought battle despite an initial Prussian surge they were unable to hold on to the objectives and were beaten back by the more numerous Danes.

The club was busy having undergone an expansion and brand change bringing together board and wargamers. Covid took its toll on our membership with several gamers not returning so hopefully the new venture will increase our membership, some good PR and a mention in the local press gave us several new faces. You can find all about us here. https://sites.google.com/view/wyvern-tabletop/

A short trip to the Royal Docks at Portsmouth - HMS Victory is undergoing a £20M make over, replacing every external plank and mast...... not much to see on the outside but the ships interior is still as grand as ever..... It is a damn sight more claustrophobic than when I was 12.

Meanwhile the latest addition to the fleet - HMS Prince of Wales - Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carrier. Quite a sight even if she is in for repair at the moment and given the events of the past week.

Having finished the Indian troops next up the Vichy French...... and the first batch of Senegalese Tirailleurs.

Dispatches from the front XX - Danes & Games.

Another Second Schleswig War outing - rather adapt for the last game of the year at the Wyvern's Club.

Henrik continues to expand his collection with hedges, rivers and fences... bbbrrrr......

The Danes take to field again looking to stem the advance of the Prussians and a fight for the farm house.

Shifting the Jagers from the centre field was a real challenge, it took odds of 3:1 to eventually drive them back, but not without significant losses.

A fresh unit of Prussian cavalry take to the field - A lovely looking unit. Eagles of Empires gives a fun game. The points mechanism is a real challenge, with the switch between table top tactics and the drive for victory points. Not sure about the Hand to Hand Combat which feels a little bit clunky, but overall a a slick system and fast paced.

Meanwhile It's amazing what drives the trends on the blog. What keeps SPQR in the popularity list I tend not to see too many players playing it? Nice to see Laserburn creeping up ranks along with a little bit of Flash Gordon.

Thanks to everyone who called out Minifigs... I am now the proud owner of Modred and a few extra's to add to the Arthurian experience.

Second Schleswig War 1864 - A cold front opens up

Wow these look huge compared to the 6mm from Baccus over the past 3 months.

A good friend of mine has been quietly building up his forces for the Dano-Prussian War of 1864, an interesting affair which takes place as the Prussians start to flex their muscle and a precursor to what was to occur in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870

The Danes had it tough fighting a largely defensive war against the armies of Prussia and Austrian. Let's see if history can be changed...

Cracking castings from Northstar and a great paint job which really captures the period and the fighting which took place in February in the frozen conditions.

We gave Eagles of Empire Miniatures rules a run through, designed for the Franco Prussian War, they had some interesting mechanisms where you receive points for capturing objectives, these points can be spent on reinforcements, unit characteristics or victory points. (It's the first to 18 points in the game).

Some nice ideas, but some tweaks maybe to balance the stoic Danes and the nibble Prussians and their new military doctrine.
