October Horror Movie Challenge - Wrestlemaniac (2006)
I found my copy of this and had to watch it again.
On there way to Cabo San Lucas, a group of low-budget (porno) film maker and has cast stop in a legendary Mexican ghost town to refuel. The town is said to be the home of El Mascarado, a Frankenstein-like lucha libre killer. Unfortunately, the legends are at least partially true and the masked marauder is ready to kill again.
While there is nothing absolutely groundbreaking about this movie, it's a lot of fun and a great idea. It has a great killer in Rey Misterio. I feel the need to clarify that this is not Rey Mysterio from WWE (who formerly wrestled as Rey Mysterio Jr). This movie stars his uncle as the horrific El Mascarado. Character actor and comedian, Irwin Keyes, also has an unnamed role in the film and steals the scenes he's in.
If you're a fan of slasher movies and lucha libre this is definitely a flick to check out. The fact that El Mascarado follows wrestling rules is a unique trait for a slasher. The fact they he unmasks his foes (who aren't wearing masks) is also gruesomely awesome!
In Your Game - I think most games would be better with a killer luchador, don't you?

DC ¡Lucha Explosiva!
I don't throw the word need around a lot when it comes to action figures, but I NEED these. The set features Luchador versions of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Deathstroke, Metallo II, and Cheetah. They look fantastic and my only complaint is that there's no Bane figure. He seems like an obvious choice but they went with Deathstroke as a Batman villain instead. Still these things look amazing. I think I might have to create some Vigilante City stats for these lucha heroes and villains.

Supers Inspiration - Lucha Underground
If you are looking for some good inspiration for a street level supers game (like The Vigilante Hack) or a modern supernatural game (like cinematic unisystem), Lucha Underground is great. Most modern wrestling shows are wrestling with some drama thrown in. Lucha Underground is a drama series centered around wrestling. Don't get me wrong, the athletic feats the luchadors and luchadoras do are amazing, but honestly, the plot is the main focus. The stories are also more coherent because all of the plot pieces are filmed after the wrestling is taped.
The main story centers around a wealthy man with a dark past that starts an underground fighting pit to offer blood and sacrifices to the gods. He's shown to have ties to some sort of dark figures (possibly demons or evil gods). The series has magical items, a dragon, an alien, and much more. Seriously, this is some good stuff.
The first two seasons are on Netflix. Considering season 2 debuts on El Rey tomorrow, I really hope season 3 shows up on Netflix soon.

El Mariachi de Combate
El mariachi de combate combines musical prowess with dazzling showmanship and martial skill. Whether he travels alone or as part of a grupo, el mariachi de combate adventures with zest, relying on his skills and bold action to do more than just survive another day. Instead, el mariachi de combate triumphs with style.
The class has 10 levels total and sounds like it would be a blast to play. They literally sing and dance while fighting unarmed on the battlefield. Seems like the perfect companion to Puss in Boots. The class doesn't have much place in a serious game, but if you want something a little light-hearted, you can't go wrong with this one.
You can download the official release on OBS (it's pay what you want) or snag the one released for Original Edition RPG Appreciation Day here. You can throw Mark some money with the first one, but the second one is a lot prettier.

Light City - El Hijo de Lobo Plata
El Hijo de Lobo Plata
Level 1 Brawler
Real Name: Salvatore Nochez
First Appearance: Los Misteriosos #23
Str 15 (+1) Int 10
Dex 18 (+1) Wis 10
Con 13 Cha 13
1 HD (6 HP)
AC 8 [11]
Attacks: 1X Unarmed Strikes, +2 to hit, 1d6+1 damage
He's definitely not as powerful as his Mutants and Masterminds or Guardians versions, but he looks like a good low level luchador and it fits with the low powered golden age of comics. The only important thing this version is missing that I think is vital to the character is that his unarmed attacks don't count as silver. Also, if I were to run Light City I might follow Guardians starting HD method and start all pc's at 3HD instead of 1 HD.

#RPGaDay 24
I'm sure there are those that would argue that the Hero System isn't that complicated of a system. I am not one of those people. I don't know why, but of the games I own, it's the one that I've never actually even considered running. The math seems like more work that I want to do for a game.
The first Hero System book I bought was Lucha Libre Hero. I was lucking enough to get it signed by the authors at Origins.
I love luchadores and have used this for source material (it's well written book), but I've never actually attempted to run it.
Despite the complexity of the system. I still occasionally buy the books. I love the Champions settings, just not the rules.

El Hijo de Lobo Plata
Today I started playing in Mutants and Masterminds 3E game with my high school gaming group. We were told that while masked vigilantes have existed in the world, actual supers haven't really made many appearances and are considered urban legends, though this is about to change.
I am a fan of Luche Libre wrestling, so I decided I wanted to make a super luchadore. While I've never played it, my autographed copy of Luche Libre heroes is one of my most prized gaming books.
I discussed my character concept with the gm and he approved. My character, El Hijo de Lobo Plata (The Son of the Silver Wolf), is the child of a the leader of Los Misteriosos (The Mysterious Ones), an order of lucha libre vigilantes that can trace their existence back to the fall of the Aztec Empire. The original Lobo Plata specialized in hunting supernatural menaces, and his son was trained to do the same. Shortly before the campaign begins Lobo Plata is killed by an unknown assailant. An attempt is also made on El Hijo de Lobo Plata, though he escapes. His uncle, another member of Los Misteriosos, sends him to America and tells him to keep a low profile.
Of course the whole low profile thing isn't going to last long.
