Character Creation Challenge - Day 13

Today's character was created 5th Evolution: White Chapel Vigilance Committee. She was inspired by a post I read about someone needing to make a movie about the sex-workers of London banding together to hunt down Jack the Ripper. I want to watch that movie.

Background
Abigail Lane was born on the streets of London. She's a "soiled dove," but she has no issues with it. The way she sees it, she sells her body a lot less than the poor sods working in the factories. In addition to being a pretty one, she's also quick and has picked up some roguish abilities. She's not above stealing from her johns.

Tired of seeing her friends butchered and nothing done about it, she's sharpened her blade and started her own hunt.

Character Creation Challenge - Day 22

Today's character was created 5th Evolution: White Chapel Vigilance Committee and was inspired by the animated version of Batman: Gotham By Gaslight. I also used the Child Hero rules from 5th Evolution: 80's Horror - The Tunnel of Terror.

Name: Grayson Todd
Medium Humanoid (Human), Chaotic Good
Archetype:  Scoundrel
Armor Class: 13
Hit Points: 13 (3d8)
Speed: 30 ft.
Challenge: 1/4 (50 XP)

Str 10 (+0) Dex 16 (+3) Con 10 (+0) Int 12 (+1) Wis 10 (+0) Cha 13 (+1)

Saving Throws: Dex +5
Skills: Intimidation +3, Sleight of Hand +5, Stealth +5
Senses: passive Perception 10
Languages: English, Thieves Cant

Traits
Dirty Fighter: Deal an extra 3 (1d6) damage when hit target with an attack and have Advantage or within 5' of an ally who isn't incapacitated and he doesn't have disadvantage.
Skin of Your Teeth: Once per short rest may completely avoid one attack that would hit.

Actions
Unarmed Strike: Melee Weapon Attack +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., (one target), Hit: 1 bludgeoning
Dash: Move 30 feet (can be done in addition to normal movement)
Disengage: Movement doesn't provoke attack of opportunity.
Dodge: Can focus entirely on avoiding attacks. Until start of his next turn, any attack against him is made at disadvantage and he makes Dex saving throws with advantage. Loses benefit if reduced to 0 HP or incapacitated.
Help: Can aid friendly creatures in attacking a creature within 5 feet of him. The first attack the ally makes before your next turn against the creature is rolled with advantage.

Background
Though only twelve years old, Grayson Todd has seen more than most. He currently serves as the guardian for other orphans in the city. Though all that have been targeted are soiled doves, he's made it his goal to help bring the Ripper to justice.

Whitechapel Vigilance Committee Review

It's not secret, I love Limitless-Adventure's 5th Evolution series. I've reviewed their supers, WWII, and 80's horror supplements before. Their latest, 5th Evolution: Whitechapel Vigilance Committee lets you take your 5e game out of the dungeon and into the dark and rainy streets of Victorian London. The book contains 47pages of content. This is an adventure and rules supplement for 5th edition. You need the core books, basic pdf, or the srd to use it.

Like all 5Evo books, this starts with a comic. The comic presents the dark and dirty streets of London towards the end of the 19th century and how the Ripper has made it an even crueler place.

After the comic we're presented with the a Victorian London primer, ten locations in London's East End, and the scenario. An investigator recruits a group of scoundrels (the players) to investigate the Ripper murders. Unlike many scenarios, this doesn't have a totally definitive progression. Yes there are nine fixed encounters that happen in chronological order, but there are also fifteen random ones. These encounters are a mix of roleplaying, investigation, and combat. I think the authors found a clever way to include monsters in this real world adventure by statting up some hallucinations the party could face. I won't spoil the ending, but I like the final encounter and there are suggestions for follow-up adventures.

The locations are given nice detail and contain stat blocks and potential encounters. I'm particularly happy with location 9, Isaac & Company. Because I was a big supporter of the projects, there was a npc named after me. I am super thankful and honored for this. Justin Isaac runs the a goodes and pawn shop and is definitely not a fence. *wink wink, nudge nudge*

There is a page of Victorian weapons, equipment and their prices. The characters are created via archetypes, like the other 5Evo books. They are much weaker in power than previous books (being CR 1/2), but that works well within the setting.

The book ends with a calendar and map of the East End.

Just like the other 5Evo book, I loved this one! It's a fun short campaign that uses a great rule system in a new way. You can buy the pdf here. I definitely recommend using it as is, but you can also combine elements from it with others. If you'd like something like Gotham by Gaslight, you could mix it with Carbide City. Want to play Dracula, add some monsters from Tunnel of Terror.

5th Evolution: Whitechapel Kickstarter

Limitless-Adventures just launched a new Kickstarter. 5th Evolution: Whitechapel takes the 5th edition D&D rules and tailors them to a campaign set in the late 19th century. Players will talk the roles of vigilantes tracking down the infamous Jack the Ripper in 1888. Like other 5th Evolution games the book will start with a short comic and then set up an adventure/campaign and give rules for making characters for it. I backed the previous 5th Evolution Kickstarter and was really happy with the results. While I'm not a big WWII tank fan I haven't reviewed it (not that I think the book is bad just not interested in genre), I loved Tunnel of Terror (80's Horror) and Carbide City #1 (supers)

While I definitely want to run the extended adventure in the book, I'm also grabbing this one to borrow ideas for some of my 5e horror games. You can pledge for just pdf, pdf and print, all 5th Evolution pdf, or all 5th Evolution pdf and print. Personally, I'm going to snag White Chapel print and pdf.
