You may remember that earlier this year my good friend Ken painted up some of the lovely Blood Bowl Monster Dice by "Fantasy Bowl Dices" for Right Stuff (see here) - well he has done it again with three new additions to the collection!

A Wizard (needs a Beard)

Picked this guy up at WinterCon last weekend, at the second hand stall.  Why?  Because I keep forgetting I have a Wizard in Blood Bowl and not using him, so I thought a figure might help!
Of course, he can also double up as a British Druid in my Weird WW2 Army, and a Cultist Sorcerer for Pulp games.


The lad chose the jade colour and particularly wanted to see a lightning bolt forming on his outstretched hand, ready to zap a player.  I have seen many very good OSL effects and though I would give it a try with this fig.

I didnt get the OSL exactly right, but I'm pretty happy with it for a first attempt, and Right Stuff likes it in any case.  Feedback and comments welcomed as always.

Blood Bowl Referees

In the old days Referees were an active part of the game, but now they are just a bit of sideline fun.
Here are mine, which reflect the multicultural nature of the game!  I still have a gobbo Ref to finish off to complete them.

Orc Stadium: Games Day 11

Doing some research for a Blood Bowl stadium I intend to build this year, I came across this wonderfully detailed showpiece by GW (though the spectators are conspicuously absent).  Typically immobile, it would nonetheless look pretty good in the Man Cave!

Love this guy!  Like our Dragon Dice, this is another Blood Bowl turn or re-roll counter by Fantasy Bowl Dices

 Again, we put a bit of felt on the bottom surface so he doesn't scratch up the pitch or dugout

Dragon Dice Counter

This is the limited edition (only 140 made) resin Dragon Dice counter made for the Australian Blood Bowl Championships. Right Stuff wanted his done up as a Red Dragon, like the old D&D 'red box' artwork!

Underneath is a small piece of felt so it doesnt scratch up the dugout and field

An Ominous Omen…

Don’t you just love it when you find a new use for an old treasure in your collection?

This is Mortarion – Primarch of the Death Guard Traitor Legion from the 40K universe. Actually, this is an old Epic scale (6mm or 1/300) version which I painted up quite some time ago. I came across him accidentally while looking for something else, but he is now the Turn marker for my Undead Blood Bowl team!

Of course, he might appear in a future Pulp/Horror game too…

Norse Turn Marker

I bought this piece of resin terrain at CANCON and have painted it up for Right Stuff to use as a turn marker for his Odinn's Champions Norse team.  I was really happy with how it came out after I did a few layers of snow basing effects.

Man Cave 7s Pitch

This is our new Blood Bowl 7s pitch - fresh from the Man Cave factory floor!

The Lad and I built it together, which was fun in itself.  Its based on foamcore, in which we scribed out the squares with a nail, glued on some sand, painted it brown, washed and dry-brushed that, and then added some flock.  I then added another layer of watered down glue for added strength and durability, but it did unfortunately drain a lot of the brightness from the ground and leave it darker than anticipated.  We then painted on the lines and the football motif in the centre.

Overall, I would say that I'm satisfied with the result.  Its not quite what I was after or intended but it looks OK and is very functional.  BB7s plays out in just over an hour so we can get a whole game in most afternoons - can't argue with that!

After our first few games I added small crosses between each square (not shown here) as it was tough to see in some spots.  I've also taken to painting on splotches of blood on a square when a player is killed.  Most of them belong to my teams...

Re-Roll Counters

Last month when we attended the NWA open day (http://tasmancave.blogspot.com/2011/08/day-out-at-nwa.html) I picked up a sprue of the Renedra gravestones to make a small graveyard for my Saxon Church (http://tasmancave.blogspot.com/2011/06/saxon-church-finished.html).  Then when I started playing my new Vampire Blood Bowl team I wanted some themed reroll markers, and these are just the business!

I mounted each on mdf and added some routine basing compound, then undercoated in black and added 3 layers of grey drybrushing before applying some flock and silfour tufts.  I'm really happy with they way they have come out.

Blood Bowl Scoreboard WIP4

We couldn't wait to get it into action, so the Lad grabbed a brush and got to work with the numbers and letters.  I gave a bit of guidance but its his work.  We both learned a lot during this:
- The Lad learned about the perils of overloading the brush, smudging techniques and washes.
- I learned that if you tell the Lad its his project, then its his project and he'll do it the way he wants!  So while I would have done this differently and gave such advice, he went a different way.  Whats most important is that he did it and loves it.  The inner modeller in me is struggling to (rightly) let him have his freedom with this though...

Final bit of detailing still to come, but we rushed it into action.  Here is my (uncharacteristically and embarassingly unpainted) Human Catcher running in a TD to be first on the board.  Does he get extra Star Player Points for that?

Next step is to paint on the numbers/letters and a little bit more detailing with some blood splatters etc

Blood Bowl Scoreboard WIP2

We've undercoated and started dry-brushing the wooden component of the scoreboard, and rethought  the plan for the number markers.  Rather than using magnets as planned, we have gone back to a more traditional approach - small wooden dowel section are now inserted and we carved out number tiles in the same rough style to hang off them.  The Lad enjoyed using the sander and drill along the way too.

The wooden dowels project out the back of the fence, and will be used to hang the markers not in use.
The markers will be labelled 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, with a zero to be painted on the fence as the default score.
On track for use in the Man Cave Bowl tourney!

Blood Bowl Scoreboard WIP1

After much procrastination, I have started building a Blood Bowl scoreboard for the upcoming 4 team "Man Cave Bowl" in a few weeks time.

I was keen to get the Lad started in the modelling side of the hobby so we started with an Orc themed scoreboard, and he has been carving away merrily at coffee stirrer sticks and sticking them to some foamcore.  In the meantime, I am building a more finished version for my forthcoming Human Team.
