Man Cave Renovations!

This month saw my Man Cave undergo a transformative process: from a garage for gaming, to a gaming emporium!  Its double size in length so I had lots of options.

Broadly, this was the starting point, though a few wall panels have been removed already in this pic

Key objectives for me were improvements in isolation (walls and roof) to permit year round gaming, as well as good overhead lighting.  What resulted was a full strip out, relining of the walls (enabling many more power points to be installed), and carpeting (using easy lay carpet squares).

I didn't hold back on the insulation bats!

Importantly, nothing was done structurally that cannot be undone quickly to return it purpose to being a garage, should that be required.

Lights going in

Everyone in the family chipped in with the labour and painting, thankyou! Big kudos to my Dad who was the brains behind the project - all done inside a week. As a result I feel set for many years of gaming fun in there!

Done!

Hobby stuff moved in with fancy new display cabinets too!

The Man Cave of Comrade James

Comrade James recently hosted the fantastic 3 vs 3 Mega Bolt Action game to christen his new Man Cave, but in my distraction with gaming goodness I neglected to post the pics of his Cave setup.  Here it is in all its glory!

Mega Bolt Action Game: Prelude

Comrade James moved into his new place over the Christmas break and to christen his new Man Cave he is hosting a 3 v 3 Bolt Action game this weekend.

James has setup a historical battle set in Jul 1944 around the French town of Sannerville, east of Caen.  As part of Operation Goodwood, 3 British commanders will advance upon the town, which intelligence suggests is defended by Fallschirmjager of the 16th Luftwaffe Field Division reinforced by elements of the 21st Panzer Division.

In Bolt Action terms it will be 3000 points per side (1000 points per player) on a 9 x 4 foot table using the Normandy 1944 Theatre selector.  No flame tanks are permitted, 1 flamethrower max per force, and objectives can only be contested by infantry units of 3 figs or more.  Game duration will be 7 turns with an option for an eighth.

Dice draw procedures…..1.Dice are drawn from the three dice bags simultaneously and passed to the owning players2. Each player with a dice turns his dice so that the order he wants is face up3. When all 3 players are ready, they simultaneously place their order dice next to the ordered unit with the selected order face up.4. In the event that timing of orders becomes important (e.g a player orders a unit to Fire on another unit in the open that is simultaneously ordered to Run behind cover) then the following Order of Precedence applies 1. Down 2. Fire 3. Run 4. Advance 5. Rally 6. AmbushNote that an Ambush cannot be triggered in the same ‘phase’ or dice draw that it was selected.

Battle report, with accompanying pics of the awesomeness, to follow!

Awesome Man Cave

Cringe and cry in envy - or raise a glass in toast - to this magnificent Man Cave mecca of gaming!

Thanks to the Uber Geek for showing off his regular gaming haunt.  I've gotten some great ideas from this for rebuilding my own Man Cave gaming table when I get back to Canberra next year.

Beer Pancakes

Its Sunday morning of a long weekend here - time for breakfast pancakes.  The grown-ups got special ones...

Ingredients
100g plain flour, sifted
pinch of salt
2 eggs
200ml milk
75ml beer (Man Cave Brewery product of course)

Method:
  • sift the flour and salt into a large mixing bowl
  • crack and add eggs
  • whisk everything together gradually adding small quantities of the milk and beer mixture
  • carry on until you have a smooth batter, with the consistency of thin cream.
  • get your frying pan really hot, with some oil in it
  • add a dollop of batter
  • Cook until golden brown...flipping being optional, but true Men always flip as high as they can
  • Scoff down with toppings as desired.
Now I'm ready to go do some painting and modelling.  I'll get another batch of home brew on today too!

Man Cave Motor Sports

Went to the Australian Grand Prix yesterday- awesome!!! Ears are still ringing actually! I thought the V8s were loud until the F1s cranked up the revs- they were louder than the RAAF F/A-18 Hornet which did a fly-past!
Got trackside seats right where the pit exit rejoined the main track, about 100yds from the start/finish line. Sweet. right about where this pic was taken, but I was at ground level. WoW - did those F1s fly past!
I got lots of pics of blurs and empty track. I claim it was the camera, not the beers I enjoyed :-)

Man Cave Operational!

I spent some time this weekend getting the man cave into a useful organisation. As you can see, its now ready for action! So wth a view of getting back into some modelling and painting, I was recently inspired by the Painting block here: http://www.balagan.org.uk/war/modelling/painting_block.htm

And so I went to work this weekend to make me one. I used scrap wood and an old rake handle cut into 6cm sections. Holes were drilled with a spade bit, leaving 4cm between holes so I can get my fingers inbetween and get the fig I want. I made it in a 12 x 2 config so it doesnt take up too much desk space. I had some spare bits left over so made a smaller one for smaller projects. The stands comfortably hold up to a 25mm fig on a slotta base. So, job done, now just got to put it into action. And I've just now realised that Autumn is not faraway and SWMBO will be looking for the handle-less leaf rake soon..

I'm working with a decorative genre known as chaos theory...
However, I think I have everything I need to survive in there for at least a week without emerging!

Happy Australia Day!

Man Caves across our Great Southern Land paused today to celebrate our wonderful country's 222nd Birthday! In true Aussie fashion, BBQs and some beers were the order of the day...and check out these cracking burgers SWMBO got for us!

The ever faithful Cave Hound wasnt left out either!

Man Cave southern annex established!

That's right- I'm back! A hectic week, 500 odd boxes and a thousand kms later and we are back online.

OK, the Man Cave is still a disaster of boxes and a full casualty count from the move is yet to be done, but we are now in residence at the new Man Cave. A new Man Cave Brewery product will be commissioned shortly to commemorate the event!

Man Cave boxed up

It took two full days, several episodes of the D6G and This Week in Wargaming, and numerous boxes, but the Canberra Man Cave is now officially packed up and offline. Relocation will occur next week, though my computer will stay up until the last minute to keep me sane! Now to go start on all the other rooms in the house!
