Pirate Rich Paints 28mm Erin Celtic Myth

Sometimes we get a treat and a little journey to follow on ‘X’ by getting tagged.  This happened with Pirate Rich Paints (check him out) when he came across a 30 year old blister from our Erin Celtic Mythology Range and decided to assemble and paint it followed by a few more miniatures from the range.  Kindly he gave permission to share this..enjoy!

One of the highlights of the entire Erin range is the war chariot.  Code CM11 Milesian Chariot was remolded two years ago and comes in many pieces including a driver and warrior along with two horses.  

By request you can choose the pack or parts of it on its page.  There it is in its 1990’s packaging about to be assembled and painted.

Pirate Rich did some excellent brushwork he really did.  Super vivid in its colours and he added some scratchbuilt reins as well.  A rather different take to our own.

CM15-03 Wolfhound Walking and CM15-02 Wolfhound Sitting are the ‘pets’ of Fionn MacCumhail and Pirate Rich took his ones and gave them a super deep grey tone of fur.  We went with a reddish hue on our own ones on the website.

Fomorian Axe Warriors new for 28mm Erin Celtic Mythology

“The true and original inhabitants of Erin are the Fomorians or the Fomori as they call themselves. Though other Peoples would debate this claim it is true that their remote ancestors battled the Partholan and were perhaps created by the Ancient Craft that raised Erin from the primordial black seas. The Fomori inhabit the cold seas and have many rocky enclaves of the coasts and roughly build stone fortifications inland; they even have a few Crystal Towers left from the times of Culach and his successors. 

A Fomori is a creature of the cold waters and though they stand from three feet to near twelve feet in height, with a normal Warrior being about six foot, they all have wet, scaly and blotched leathery skins.  The Sea Devils, or Helpers of the Fomori, are the smallest and weakest of their Peoples and the mighty Champions of the Fomori are the largest.  A typical Warrior will go to battle near naked armed with his teeth and sharp fingers carrying perhaps an iron sword or a spear and a poorly constructed shield. 

Lofty ideals form no part of the Fomori soul. They war for very simple reasons: conquest, cruelty, and avarice.  Their plans are evil and darkness embodied, none walk the coastal paths without one eye on the foaming waters of the cold sea.” - From Erin the game of Celtic Myth (2005) 

The original Fomorian Warriors (CM13 and CM16) in the Erin Celtic Myth range are 30 year old classics and have been remolded several times since.  We are proud today to announce the first of many coming new Fomorian Warriors!  Three new 28mm metal miniatures sculpted by Sam Croes. These three have as with EVERY other code in the range been added to the All of Erin Bundle which gives you everything in the range with a 5% saving built in.  The last new release of the Spring Mega Event 2025.

The warriors of Fomor are bigger than Pucci but smaller than their Champions and Heroes.  They out bulk a Man but look puny next to Morc of Chicol the monster.

Pucci Servants and Pucci Warband new in 28mm Erin Celtic Myth range

The smallest of the Fomorian race and most numerous the Pucci are used as servants, fodder and even sport by larger Fomorians.  From the seas and from Tory Island the Fomorians raid the lands to carry off riches, slaves and livestock. Fomorians grow with age and become stronger and more deadly as they do.  Pucci turn into Warriors who mature into Storm Warriors and Spell Weavers and a few grow to become Champions and even legendary Heroes such as Lord of the Fomorians Culach.

Now on the website is the fifth of our Erin Warbands the CMB5 Fomorian Pucci Horde joins a saver set for Fomorians, Sidhe, Milesians and Fir Bolg giving you a ready made force for the table.  The Pucci Warband has twenty different little sea devils in it making a mass in play.

We have the mighty CMM00 All of Erin Bundle which contains one of EVERY miniature in the Erin range with a 5% saving built in for those who wish to get all there is in one bundle.  Above you can see CM15 the Hero Fionn MacCumhail and his War Hound standing and sitting.  Every pose in the range is a single for maximum choice.

Pucci Warriors new in 28mm Erin Celtic Myth range

Pukki are the smallest of the Fomorian race.  From the seas and from Tory Island the Fomorians raid the lands to carry off riches, slaves and livestock.  In these raids the Pukki are numerous and troublesome.  Alternative Armies begins the climb of new miniatures for the Erin range with Warrior Pukki the first of many releases in 2023 for this unique array of nearly one hundred figures now!

Five miniatures as singles with a header code of CM28.  Armed with daggers and spear they are the most junior members of your Warband.

Fomorian Spellweaver painted by Bonefyre from Erin 28mm Celtic Myth range

A great find over on Instagram was a lovely painted Fomorian by a popular poster called Bonefyre. Follow him on that platform if you are keen to see more of his hobby. With the first of many new Erin 2023 miniatures out this very week (CM28 Pukki Warriors five poses) it seemed fitting for a wee hobby article featuring another sea devil. You can see the whole range HERE. 

 

 

This is CM6-01 Fomorian Spellweaver a high ranking member of any warband who manipulates the favours of the darker gods to give boons to his fellows from lowest Pukki to the Warriors all the way to Storm Warriors and Heroes. Bonefyre has done a great job on this with an evocative paint scheme and the addition of mushrooms (not the ones in our Battlefield Bits Range but similar) to the base really brings it all together. 

 

 

While the third edition of Erin the game is way off in the future (we are working on game engine refinements next month) you can still get the current second edition as a reduced price download and its massive! A great read. We are really happy that resmastering the over 90 poses with new molds and new pictures has allowed collectors and wargamers to complete projects and to begin new ones. 

 

 

Every miniature in the range is a single and there are also Warbands which collect models and give a discount. In the CMB2 Fomorian Warband you get a fine mix of a mighty Hero, a Champion, some Warriors and some Pukki.

Fir Bolg War Horn released for Erin Celtic Myth

A new miniature added to the expanding Erin Range for this month. The eighty eighth miniature is a musician for the Fir Bolg as we add in more poses for this growing faction. Soon the people of the bag will be able to fully take the field against the sea risen Fomorians, the glamor ridden Sidhe and the mortal Milesians. Go HERE for the range. 

 

 

There are now a dozen Fir Bolg miniatures with eleven being warriors and one named hero. We aim to expand the people of the bag to a full faction with a value warband such as that we have for the other races by the spring.

Female Fir Bolg Slinger released for Erin Celtic Myth

With the classic Erin range fully returned to the website and CM26 Streng hero of the Fir Bolg released we now begin our regular releases into the range which will continue each month.  The first female and first missile weapon armed Fir Bolg to join your warband to battle the evil Fomorians, the magical Sidhe or even the mere mortal Milesians.  Now eighty seven miniatures in the range HERE.

Erin 2nd Edition has an easily learned 2D6 based rules system that is scenario driven with a normal game lasting between one and two hours in play. The game book features full rules, no need for expansions, create and advance your characters and creatures using a full points and warband and hero generation system. Also a full Druidic Magic system and all needed rules for Chariots, Horses, Gods, Enchanted Animals and Monsters. A full and detailed narrative of the history of Erin and sections detailing the nature of each of the five main peoples of Erin. Includes three made scenarios and a short section for inclusion of a fictional Roman Invasion of Erin. Generate scenarios, the landscape and even the weather and then use the mini campaign section to manage your warband between games.  (106 pages.  With a few pages removed and reordered).

The return of Alternative Armies 28mm range of Celtic Mythology called Erin this year brought a lot of joy to tabletop gamers all across the world.  It allowed them to fill in gaps in their collections or to replace lost miniatures or to get into this unique array of fine metal miniatures.  A number of new customers wanted to go 'all in' easily getting their hands on all there was with a single purchase.  We arranged this for them by email and now we present the 'All of Erin Bundle' on the website.  Go HERE for the range.

Erin Celtic Myth 28mm range returns to the website

Alternative Armies is delighted to once more be able to offer our unique range of miniatures in the Erin range to wargamers and collectors worldwide. Sculpted by legends of the industry across the early years of the 1990's all the figures have been re-mastered and are now online as single choices (plus three warbands with savings).  They have returned to their original codes and their names from the Erin game also.  The Sidhe, the Fomorians, Firbolg and Milesians as well as many monsters and minor gods. 85 Different Miniatures. Great for any 28mm game system and wonderfully characterful.  Go HERE.

Currently we have brand new images of the Sidhe and of the Fomorians for you to see.  More will follow soon as we progress so it is well worth checking back over coming weeks as we get to the monsters and the Milesians.  All of the codes are now in the range though including three miniatures which have not been available in nearly three decades.  Can you spot them?

The Sidhe are a whimsical race. What seems trivial to a Man they find significant, what Man mocks they cherish. To a Sidhe Hero even the pursuit of a poignant tune can be a lauded quest.  Clan Warriors make up most of their warband alongside a couple of Champions and of course a Hero of legend.

The Formori are the sea dwellers who come to the land to conquer, with little in the way of lofty ideals, it is for avarice and cruelty that they quest.  Terror from the waters of Erin.  Fomori grow in stature as they age with Pucci being the smallest and the mighty elder Heroes the largest.

We are committed to the Erin range in the longer term which means it will grow from here.  There shall be more miniatures and it is our aim to release Erin 3.0 when we are able to among our other titles such as En Garde and The Bier Wars.  We have been delayed by a world event but the will is strong and these things will happen.  So if you wish to see certain heroes of legend or warriors of note appear then do please tell us who they are.  Do you want a horde of Pucci?  We may even create our own vision of the monstrous Balor!
