Phree Riders and Bisons added to the 28mm Frontear range

It is our great delight to announce the release of more miniatures sculpted by John Bell (creator of the Sengoku 15mm Japanese Fantasy range) into the Frontear game system.  Phree Riders!  Following up on last month's Phree Brave packs as well as the Logann Brave packs and the mighty Wendigo these tall 28mm scale birdmen fit right into the game and any other suitable wargame too.  Riding on Bison which can also be had on their own too.  See the whole range HERE including the book as a digital download plus Orc Gunfighters, Civile Warre Soldiers, Frontear's Orcs and Dark Elf Banditos too.

"Elsewhere in North Amerka, different Tribes reacted in a far more hostile manner to the Uropeans’ arrival. Word filtered through to the Uropeans settling the west coast of a different race inhabiting the continent’s arid south, and the Great Plains further east. An Avian race called the Phree made their home here; hunter gatherers. These fiercely territorial people had not taken kindly to the Catalucians encroachment on their ancestral hunting grounds. Their Shaman had experienced a profound loss of power, but most infuriating of all to the wandering Phree was the fact that they could no longer fly as they once had. A whole generation had been set-a-foot, never they believed to experience the wonders and freedom of flight again. The eagle like Phree could have become demoralised like the Macaw, or suspicious and withdrawn like the Logann; instead, they became hostile and the Catalucians paid in blood for every mile they travelled North in their pursuit of gold. Out numbered and outgunned, the Phree nevertheless knew the country like the back of their wings and that, coupled with their native courage and ferocity, made them an adversary to be feared." Frontear game book.

Three new codes which can be has as packs or as single miniatures too.  A Phree stands about 35mm from sole of foot to beak and upon the bison they are about 45mm tall.  Armed with spear, shield, axe and bows they are sculpted by John Bell.  Sadly we were unable to get a set of these miniatures painted before release but we hope these sharp images of the metal will serve the purpose.  Go HERE.

The Bison upon which the Phree ride can be had on their own in code 7126. Each is about 50mm long and 30mm tall. They join our riding Pig, Boar, Dodo, Horses, Lizards, Rhinos, Hippo, Gnoll and much more suitable for any rider in our Battlefield Bits and Others range.  You can also find our extensive array of bits and sprues in this range for such things as feathers, tankards, pies, fruit, cooked meat, weapons and back packs.

Phree added to the 28mm Frontear black powder fantasy range

It is our great delight to announce the release of more miniatures sculpted by John Bell (creator of the Sengoku 15mm Japanese Fantasy range) into the Frontear game system.  Following up on the Logann Braves and the mighty Wendigo these tall 28mm scale birdmen fit right into the game and any other suitable wargame too.

An Avian race called the Phree made their home here; hunter gatherers who followed the vast herds of buffalo that migrated across these vast, fertile plains.

Out numbered and outgunned, the Phree nevertheless knew the country like the back of their wings and that, coupled with their native courage and ferocity, made them an adversary to be feared." - From 7000 Frontear.

Each of the three new packs of four can be had as a pack or as a single miniature.  A Phree stands about 35mm from sole of foot to beak and they are armed with a mix of bows, clubs, spears, tomahawk and small shields.  Sculpted by John Bell. Sadly we were unable to get a set of these miniatures painted before release but we hope these sharp images of the metal will serve the purpose.

There is a lot in the Frontear range which is part of the World of Valon, setting for Flintloque, such as the Wendigo you can see here.  In the game book you can choose to fight in the Greate Rebellion which sees Amerka break away from Greate Britorcn or you can have scenarios with Davvie Crockorc at the Alamoque, perhaps go with the North or South in the Amerkan Civile Warre or take up six shooters in the Wylde West.  Go HERE.

Wendigo a new 40mm tall monster released

“A malign and evil monster which comes from the ice flows and from the forests to consume the flesh of living creatures and to cause them madness and in possession of their minds make them commit heinous acts.”

A creature of North American folklore the Wendigo which takes many forms and several spellings. Our painted example was chosen to be a woodland not ice Wendigo composed of rock and vegetation rather than snow and tundra.  Its guts are superheated!

7120 Wendigo

This pack contains one 28mm scale metal and resin model. Supplied in five pieces these being the lower body and legs, the upper body, the head and two arms.  A degree of pose choice in arm and head positioning is possible. When assembled the model stands 40mm tall, 50mm long.  Go HERE.

As you can see this monster works in many settings and scales shown with a 28mm and 15mm miniature.  Sculpted by John Bell in his work on the Frontear Range and alongside his Sengoku 15mm Japanese Fantasy Range this is a great model with a lot of detail to be seen.

Hann Townsfolk new insectile 28mm race released

Now at Alternative Armies a pack of five poses of a brand new race on the World of Valon; the Hann. Sculpted by John Bell, he of Sengoku 15mm Japanese Fantasy fame, these fantastical creatures slot into the Frontear setting.  They are equally fine in any fantasy system or perhaps even a Steampunk Fantasy or Post Apocalyptic setting. We place them into the Wylde West period alongside Gunfighters, Bandits, Soldiers and Logann natives. Without further ado we give you Hann Townsfolk.  Go HERE or read on for more.

“Leaving the Mandryn owned kingdoms the underclass race known as the Hann came to Amerka, to Kitton and some even to Urop to escape tyranny.  They had great difficulty in communicating and understanding the ways of these less Wylde Magicke nations but they strove to be accepted and in time they found work and places to dwell.  In Amerka it is in the great towns of Kalifoornia and the Aridzona vastness too.  Often a law unto themselves the Chigtowns within cities like Sanfransiroc are ruled by Hann gangs. The Hann will put up with almost anything to avoid returning to the dragons of the Mandyrn.”

In the top picture you see the new Hann standing around the Case of Shotte terrain piece which is free in every shipped order this month automatically.  See that HERE.

7119 Hann Townfolk. This pack contains five 28mm scale metal miniatures.  The Hann are an insectile fantasy race with an oriental theme.  Each Hann has four arms and is dressed baggy trousers and tunics.  The poses are Hann Merchant or Shopkeeper arms folder (1), Hann enforcer or Tong Executioner with swords (2), Hann railroad or manual worker with tool (3), Hann Miner with Pick (4) and Hann labourer with baskets (separate piece) (5).  You have the option of purchasing a pack or choosing single poses in any quantity from the pack all on the page.  Go HERE.

There are no rules for Hann in existence for the Frontear setting and due to the current world circumstances we have been unable to properly playtest and create a setting document for them with statistics blocks.  In the meantime we suggest referring to pages 92 to 99 of 7000 Frontear and treating the Hann as 'Dwarf' in terms of their movement rates, combat factors.  They may use any weapon open to Orc sized creatures and have no fear of black powder.  They are slower than other races of their size but stronger than Elves.  You may also ignore the combat modifier for being attacked in the side or rear in close combat due to their four arms and insectile nature.  If this new race proves popular we may make other poses such as troops.

You can see all the other miniatures in the range plus the digital download of the Frontear game book on our website HERE.

This is our first new release of the month.  There are more to come.  Keep an eye on the website and our social media for tabletop fun!

59540 Bell Tent
When not in battle nor on the march we all need somewhere to rest our heads.  A bell shaped tent with space for four to six occupants and made from canvas is just what is needed. This code composes ONE 28mm scale high quality resin terrain piece great for your table.  It is one piece and can be used for an encampment or as battlefield interest.  A row of them to home your weary troops. These 28mm scale resin terrain objects are a great piece for World of Valon wargaming.

Put it on your table as an objective or cover or just for interest. It measures about 70mm wide, 70mm deep and 65mm tall. Sculpted by Elton Waters.

The above picture show you a solitary Orc Dismounted Dragoon Trooper (54055) standing guard next to a small encampment in Catalucia composed of the Bell Tent and the 59539 Wedge Tent.

Our Barricade Set gives you one of each of the eight different and wonderful models which come as separate packs all in one with a 10% saving on screen.  Library, Ruined Apothecary, Furniture, Bed, Discarded Kitchen, Crates and Boxes, Beer Barrel; all with loads of interesting detail.

I know that no one leaves full barrels of beer behind even on a fearsome winter retreat in the face of the enemy..so I prefer to think that the wooden vessels upon this abandoned wagon are empty.

Logann Braves twelve new 28mm fantasy miniatures by John Bell

Now released into the World of Valon as part of the Frontear range Alternative Armies presents a dozen miniatures sculpted by John Bell (he of the Sengoku range) in 28mm scale.  The Logann are the first native race of the Amerkan continents and they are detailed in the Frontear game book along with their rules for play. These are all of our 28mm scale fantasy and Flintloque releases for August.  Go HERE or read on for more.

HOME OF THE BRAVES
Like the Macaw before them, the Logann Tribes of North Amerka who resided in the great woodlands of the west had enjoyed a very personal and productive relationship with magickal beings. These, however, were not the blood-thirsty deities of the southern continent, but the less powerful, though more numerous, Spirits of earth, air and water. Respect, rather than veneration, was accorded these beings and their environment, and in return these Spirits educated selected individuals, enabling them to draw on Wylde Magicke and perform wondrous feats. These shamans were able to fly, exert limited influence over local weather patterns, and even shape change when the mood took them. In addition, these learned individuals were also able to pass on lore to members of their Tribes; modest gifts that allowed hunters and warriors to move undetected through the woodland, survive unaided in hostile conditions, and draw briefly on the powers of their woodland neighbours to endow themselves with greater speed, strength and agility as the situation dictated.

Then the tide of annulment arrived on the Amerkan continent and things began to change. The patron Spirits went abroad less often, and grew less inclined to interact with the Logann Shaman; preoccupied, as they were, with identifying the reason for their loss of power and the threat it posed to their very existence. As the Spirits’ powers waned, so too those of the Shaman: flight became impossible; their ability to control weather was replaced by an ability to accurately predict upcoming weather patterns. Useful, but a poor substitute; and the ability to shape change also disappeared, leaving in its wake an empathic bond with the creatures of the forest which was, again, a poor reflection of the greater power. Enough Magicke remained to ensure the Spirits’ survival. The warriors’ abilities remained unscathed, but on the whole the Logann became disenchanted with their lot.

Then the Uropeans arrived, and the Logann’s trail of thought ran along similar lines to the unfortunate Macaw. Surely this could not be a coincidence? Many pointed the finger of suspicion at the settlers, convinced that they had somehow worked some Magicke of their own, weakening the Tribes and their allies as a prelude to invasion. So the Logann retreated behind their stockades and prepared for battle.  The fourth age of Valon was upon Amerka...
(An Extract from 7000 Frontear the Skirmish game book)

There are four new codes as follows.  Go HERE.

7115 Logann Leaders (Three Miniatures)
7116 Logann Braves (Three Miniatures)
7117 Logann Braves II (Three Miniatures)
7118 Logann Braves III (Three Miniatures)

You can select poses from each pack if you desire single miniatures an any amount and you can purchase three packs and save 10%.  All options are on screen.

While meant for use with Frontear you can see that they will fit into Flintloque games too.  A scale picture showing that the Logann are taller and thinner than Elves (such as General Saindoux from 5024 Escape the Dark Czar).  Lithe forest runners.

We have another treat for you.  Drawn by John Bell we have the first maps of Amerka!  Two different maps along with a couple of pages explaining place names and their real world equivalents.  Downloads it from our website storage by CLICKING HERE.

Frontear the Skirmish book and range returns to Alternative Armies

We end the week with some customer response news and an update.  The small spin off range from Flintloque called Frontear is now back on the Alternative Armies website.  Frontear is set in Amerka and covers everything from the Amerkan Rebellion right up to the Civile Warre and the Wylde West with the Alamorque thrown in for good measure.  It is a self contained game book with all the rules and setting you need along with more than a dozen 28mm packs of Orcs, Elves and others.  Released in 2008 it has been out of production since 2011 but now it is back and on its own page.  We have put up the game book as a paid digital download at a great price for 110 pages of content.  Go HERE to check it all out or read on for more.

7000 Frontear the Skirmish – Digital Download Book
A Skirmish Game set in the fantasy World of Valon before, during and after the Mordredian Wars. Located in the New Worlde of Amerka it means adventure on a whole new continent never seen before. Take command of a chosen few characters, be they Uropean Settler races (such as Elves and Orcs) or take the part of Amekan races such as Injians or Gruff and many other strange creatures. Create your characters using the Frontear rulebook and bring them through a number of scenarios with only their wits, skills and their weapons to keep them alive.

In Frontear you can choose to play your games in the 4th Age of Valon (the time of Flintloque) and use Black Powder weapons; or you can choose to game in the 5th Age of the Valon. This is the Perkussion Age, the time of the Civile Warre and the Wylde West. Choose your period! You might choose to create a section of Orcish Colonial Militia to fight for Washertunne and against Kyng Gorge. Or Some Light Cavalry armed with swords who must enforce Great Britorcish aims in the War of Eighteen Bells. Perhaps you would prefer to create a section of Souffern Elf Troopers to fight in the Civile Warre or grab revolvers and set up a posse of Dog, Goblin and others as Cowboys. Then again you could choose to create an artillery crew, some Injian Braves or the Undead. The choices are huge!

Amerka is a massive and varied place and with two Ages of Valon to choose from ideas are easy to come by. Frontear is a fast-play skirmish wargame. Skirmish wargaming is very different from the usual style of wargame. Instead of representing hordes of nameless cannon fodder, each miniature on the game table represents one character, each with unique skills. Skirmish wargaming isn't about controlling an army of faceless soldiers; it's about individuals battling for fame, glory and their lives. In the game of Frontear you are the lord and master of a small band of characters who live in this world of Amerkan Fantasy. Who these characters are is entirely up to you and discovering your characters, creating them, developing their skills and recording their experiences is one of the most fun aspects of playing Frontear. Use the optional advanced skills and magicke talent rules to add even more variety. Frontear uses a compact rules system (developed from Flintloque Reloaded) for its skirmishes which utilises percentile dice (two ten sided dice) with each action needing the character to pass a certain percentage of difficulty to succeed. Along with a combat engine which uses counters on table and is very flexible you will find Frontear fun and rewarding to play. With a full System for Section creation, you will be playing in no time. Keep the rule book at hand in your first few games and from then all you will need is a reference sheet for the easy read tables in the game.

A game of Frontear can be played with as few as one player (in a specially made solo scenario) through to two players all the way up to truly wild games with eight to ten Sections competing for the same objectives.  A game of Frontear can easily be played to completion in one hour making it a great game for an afternoon or evening.  ‘Go on Join the Adventure...Partner!’  Go HERE for the book . Written by Gavin Syme (GBS) with artwork by Edward Jackson. 8.00GBP

The Frontear Range contains fifteen different packs of miniatures with soldiers, civilians, frontear types and gun slingers.  You can purchase a pack or three packs with a 10% saving or choose single miniatures within a pack if you wish to totally tailor your forces.  Go HERE.  This is the list of packs we have.

Other Flintloque Miniatures to use with Frontear

While the Frontear range contains miniatures which are spread across the time span of the book there are many miniatures from the Flintloque range which can be used in the 4th Age periods of the Greate Rebellion and the War of Eighteen Bells too.  The uniforms worn by the Army of Great Britorcn with Tricorne and Bircorne head gear along with its artillery will do just fine to fight against your Amerkans or to be in your ranks.  For the mercenaries the Von Rotte Legion is spot on with its appearance.  The Elves of Armorica give you a counterpart for mixed racial units in the Amerkan regiments alongside Orcs, Ratmen, Ogres and other types.  You can learn more by reading the Frontear book and matching them up.  Feel free to ask questions directly on the Alternative Armies Tabletop Wargame Group on Facebook too.
