What's going on with synthetic oil? Is everyone with a turbo engine basically turbo-fucked now?

All the light oils are dead and gone thanks to geopolitical factors, such as israel and their firm grasp upon trump's balls.
Toyota is damn near OUT of 8 and 16 weight but conventionals are unaffected. A good general rule is that the lighter the oil, the worse the shortage. Luckily for us beaterfags we're used to using 5w30 non-synth in all our shit and will happily swap to 15w40 this summer if the price hikes warrant it. If you have a turbo car, gg no re. Just kidding, motors gotta motor, the elites won't go without their slop (did you know that jews consume the highest seed oils per capita of any group?), they'll figure something out even if it's annoying and gay. I'd still get rid of any newer turbo cars for other reasons but eh. Grab 2 bottles tho, you won't ragert.
>>
I'll be frank with you, you don't need a 0W full synth just to lube and cool a turbo.

probably is the synchros considering nobody knows how to drive manual anymore and every manual Miata is someone's manual trans learner car, some miatas end up being multiple people's manual trans learner cars. I'm surprised Mazda even warranties manual transmissions seems like a total liability from a manufacturers point of view.

NB bosectomy? I did that through the radio hole and did all my soldering away from the car. You can just make a bypass plug like this if you can live with the preamps being dead weight, which is less worse than pulling the dash to remove them.

They seem very comfy and used PP trims are going for $40k with <10k miles. I need to sit in each of theee cars but it seems like a good choice. I have an rx350 as a dd and grocery hauler.

Their alternator tests suck. Their battery tests suck if your battery is not 100% charged. Measure the voltage when it’s running with the AC on. If it’s not…14V? 14.5V? I forget; but it’s bad! Probably alternator.
>>28950306
Adjust the pedal. The official guidance usually says move the rod a bit until you get resistance and then back off a quarter or half turn, but in my experience, you want to back off even more. My car shifted much better when it had MORE slop in the pedal for whatever reason. Just my experience after doing this to my old civic type r and my NA Miata
>>
>>28950306
In my opinion/experience NA/NB 5 speeds can be a bit crunchy until they warm up especially if the synchros haven't been beaten to death from years of slamming it into gear.

My NA (low miles, 42k) was notchy with the old slave/master, and is still notchy with the replacements. I just think it's a funny transmission that needs some time to warm up.

Notchy in a bad way?
Have you replaced the shift boots and changed the shifter turret oil underneath? Probably have, but just checking.

I know the B48 is considered far more reliable than the N20 but which BMW I6 engines are considered gems and which are considered worse?

Does the N55 also have a bad reputation compared to the B58?

Driven 3, 5 and X3s at work and considering one now.

Thanks to recent events I have begun to reconsider my stance on 1) nose men and 2) carbureted v8 land yachts. I, however, am unwilling to give up the aesthetics and ride comfort of these old girls I love so. Can I afford the 15 mpg of my current yacht? Yes. Do I want to? No!
Enter: the chrysler lebaron. Small, cheap, reliable, easy to park, reasonably stylish, and 26-40 miles to the gallon.
Now here's the rub: where in the hell do I find one of these? The vast majority of surviving Ks are verts. Those are cool and all, but here in texas I'd be more inclined to describe 'em as uncomfortably hot. And of the very few (surviving) non-vert Ks, an infinitesimally small fraction have the manual transmission.
SO, to the oldfags/heads/nigs/whatevs here, I have a task for you. Find me one. Find me a coupe/sedan, even wagon, under 7 grand, good condition, AC, manual, 2.2L (NOT the shitsubishi 2.6) fuck it, I'll take a reliant or aries. Ask your grandpappy. Ask your buddies. Ask your wife's sister's boss's dog's friend's owner's brother's electrican's mechanic. Please, I beg of you all. For the sake of this anon's wallet and sense of aesthetics. I can even bread the car when we're all said and done. I can take us all on virtual road trips. pls

Its a horrible way to transport.
Most people overtighten straps for starters.
But on top of that- think about the air pressure on your hand when you stick it out the window. If you cant imagine how thats going to affect a plastic/fiberglass hull then next time youre going down the freeway, stick an umbrella out the window and report back

'80-'81 is the hard cutoff for when cars went from grand and epic to these corporate boxy things. Yeah this really started in the early 1960's but by 1981 it was unavoidable no matter the price point unless you wanted to blow 100 grand '81 equiv. on a kraut kar.

The part that really tends to go is the trans cooler. You can't really solder it shut because it's a high-pressure vessel. You can;t get new ones either because nu-diators are plastic and aluminum.
...so you'd need an expensive recore and a transcooler+mounting but actually the purpose of the rad transcooler is also to WARM the tranny initially and aughgh just store the copper core rad in the attic for whe it's valuable and buy a 200 dollar alum performance rad. As a bonus those never ever ever overheat because they're all built for turbo LS swaps.

Can someone that knows what they're talking about tell me if this is right?

Looking at finally getting a M240i Coupe. Been wanting one for a long time and finally in a place to get it. A friend of mine has a BRZ and is telling me that I'm wasting a lot of money because the BRZ and the GR86 are better cars and I will be wasting money on this. Someone else I know at work, not a friend, drives a Miata and tells me he would never buy a BMW.

Now I'm a bit hesitant. I've test driven the M240i a few times now and it feels amazing to drive. I've driven his BRZ and I don't really think they're comparable when it comes to power.

Some /O/ anon can tell me straight.

the biggest problem with the mlites is the lack of LSD makes them kind of dangerous.
>>
>>28948503
Yes but they don't sell them to poorfags anymore. On the zupra it's like a $7k option. Otherwise I think it's only available on the M cars.
>>
I had my GR86 for 3 years and it's a ton of fun to drive, far more "connected" than a wannabe M car. They are a stupid good value and despite what people say it's actually a very reliable platform, people blowing up engines from oil starvation was completely overblown, they're also very cheap to maintain.

But I think it's also overrated as a daily, people put up with way more shit than they should. It's perfectly serviceable, sure, but you're really going to get annoyed by the compromises in the long run. If you're already cross shopping something far more comfortable, it may not be the car for you.

I would say at a minimum for a GR to be half as pleasant as an M lite you would want off the PS4 asap and go up to 225/40 for additional sidewall; putting on DWS06 made a huge difference for me for my non-summer set, new dampers,I'm a bilstein fag so I'd go with them, and then additional sound deadening along the wheel and trunk.

If this is a second car, ignore everything and just get the 86

I think I'm pretty qualified to talk about this specific topic. I've owned a First Gen BRZ, Just finished Reviewing a Yuzu GR86, and family owns a F87 OG M2, and I currently own 2 E46's.

If I were you, throw the idea of the F22 M240i out the window. They are not good "sports cars" People who bench race saying they can make an M240i as fast as an M2 are just coping. Sure in a straight line you can build the B58 to do crazy drag passes, but the amount of money needed to sink to get the suspension to a similar level as the M-car is unreasonable, and you wont even get the widebody. I've just had this argument with my family over M240i vs an M2. OG M2's have tanked in value because the comp exists, I dont know about your market, but for us it was a 5k difference between an 6 speed M240i vs a 6 Speed OG M2, and you get a whole lot more car for the money for 5k more, and when the time comes, the M2 will hold better resale value in the future. The N55 is reliable as long as auto-start stop is disabled and for the most part is cheap to maintain for an "M" car. The M2 N55 has most of the S55 goodies minus the air to water intercooler anyways, and sounds way better, Even brakes arent expensive as long as you're willing to convert to solid blanks over the factory 2 pc rotors. Its the best "bang for buck" between an M240i, OG M2, and M2C.

But as someone that used to have a first gen BRZ, and now just finished reviewing the GR86. Theyre the better cars for "fun" at reasonable speeds, and driving the GR86 made me remember why i loved the BRZ to begin with. Gen 2 in my opinion has the PERFECT amount of power and anyone that says otherwise is bench racing. God If i had it for longer than a week, i'd definitely be in jail right now. The limits of that car are so so low that you're pretty much going into every single turn sideways at a reasonable speed. Its so easy to slide with the LSD I couldnt stop giggling. The M cars and M lites will punish you if you make a mistake.
>>
>>28951072
I know plenty of people do it, but did you have more "oh shit" moments in your area in the BRZ over the M2? I'm in the PNW and RWD year round is fine, but I've had more than a handful of unintentional sketchy moments.

Had a Discovery 4 as a family car for a long time. 2.7 TDV6.
The 3L V6s blow up cranks with no reason. The 2.7s the torque converter fails. Myriad electrical issues. Hard on suspension bushings too, they're heavy cars. Every service was expensive due to required maintenance beyond a regular service.
Absolutely phenomenal car to drive, so comfy, good power, towed easily. Were it not crashed into we'd still have it.
It's the sort of thing that if you get a good one, it's pretty good, but still more maintenance than most other brands. If you get a bad one it'll send you broke very quickly.
