Have just seen a post on #LinkedIn saying that someone can see people they’ve blocked making it unsafe for them.
I checked my block list, and sure enough, even though it says the people are blocked, I can still see them.
This is not good.
There’s one from the community who publicly bullied and tried to affect my reputation who I needed to block to feel safe on the platform - and if blocking is no longer working, well… and it doesn’t help that this person is seen as a champion for the community, and yet behind doors…
And yes, I know LinkedIn is a hell hole.

I exited that crap and like Trump I have now declared that is not named LinkedIn anymore, the new name is LinkedOut.
Una de las varias cosas que no me agrada en #LinkedIn (que todavía sigo usando aunque poco, pero en cualquier momento me bajo de ahí) son las publicaciones de quienes comparten: "Hice un laboratorio de X tecnología integrada con Y y Z, y aprendí esto y aquello", acompañadas a lo mucho por un diagrama, pero sin compartir ni una pizca de documentación o el conocimiento técnico real detrás del logro.
Al final, el post termina siendo solo una vitrina para mostrarse, pero no aporta nada tangible a la comunidad. Entiendo el valor de construir una marca personal, pero la verdadera autoridad técnica no se demuestra enseñando solo el resultado final, sino abriendo la caja negra y compartiendo el proceso.
Si no hay un repositorio, un paso a paso o una explicación de los retos superados, la publicación se queda en simple "ruido" visual. Ojala toda esa gente compartiera más documentación, que es lo que realmente nos hace crecer a todos.

Ugh, LinkedIn is the worst!
I try to disable all the notifications that aren't directly relevant to me, but they keep inventing new kinds of notifications that I have to opt out of! So annoying.
Trying to do that this morning, I see they have "simplified and regrouped" their notification settings, which is hilarious, because they're showing me a list of 14 top-level notification categories, each with its own tree of sub-categories beneath it. There must be a few dozen different categories of notification, each with multiple options within.
I think I found the one I needed to turn off? I have no idea. This is actively hostile UX.

I tried logging in. 2FA with email. OK. That worked. THEN 2FA with providing a phone number. NOT OK. But I use the service sometimes and I have a google voice number that isn't my actual cell number so... OK.

I'm not looking for a job but I send out applications periodically just so I can ask about the salary range and tell them it's too low no matter what it is. Doing my part to get the rest of you paid.
Anyone else having issues with #LinkedIn - I didn't think they had my phone number but when I tried to log in they sent a code to my email which I can see but also a code to a US based number which I can't. I have no idea where that number came from but it certainly isn't mine. Looking at the help it is clear there is an issue with some android users.. but was trying to log in on laptop. Help eventually leads you to a page asking you upload some sort of government ID to prove you are who you say you are. Any thoughts? In the past couple of years I have seen brand new employees post their first job on LinkedIn and then get phishing emails "from" the CEO asking for gift cards for a client. Several fell for the scam and lost thousands in gift cards.

It's nonsense to say that coding will be replaced with "good judgment". There's a presupposition behind that, a worldview, that can't possibly fly. It's sometimes called the theory-free ideal: given enough data, we don't need theory to understand the world. It surfaces in AI/LLM/programming rhetoric in the form that we don't need to code anymore because LLM's can do most of it. Programming is a form of theory-building (and understanding), while LLMs are vast fuzzy data store and retrieval systems, so the theory-free ideal dictates the latter can/should replace the former. But it only takes a moment's reflection to see that nothing, let alone programming, can be theory-free; it's a kind of "view from nowhere" way of thinking, an attempt to resurrect Laplace's demon that ignores everything we've learned in the >200 years since Laplace forwarded that idea. In that respect it's a (neo)reactionary viewpoint, and it's maybe not a coincidence that people with neoreactionary politics tend to hold it. The most annoying thing about corporate surveillance to me is the arrogance of the prediction mechanisms.
These algorithms build a model of me based on my clicks from three years ago and then try to trap me in that loop forever. They show me music they think I'll like, and news they think I'll engage with, and videos they think will enrage me enough to keep me hooked to their platforms. They are actively trying to flatten my personality into something easy to monetize.
As most people I've seen say out loud, "Privacy as a concept is way beyond hiding secrets. A part of it also means preserving your capacity to change. To be surprised. To be inconsistent."
If I could tell every human one thing, it would be to actively refuse to be a predictable data point. Mess up their metrics. In whatever way you are capable of.

A Court security guard at the Licht Judicial Complex in Providence, Rhode Island noticed a masked man taking photographs inside the courtroom. The guard approached the man and asked asked him to identify himself. He said he was a cowardly thug working for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The guard told him to stop taking photographs inside the courthouse.

The site has gone from a fairly benign job-site to a social media enterprise that actively encourages, promotes and rewards open racism, gender & sexuality hate, billionaire worship, and outright worker abuse.
I didn't like it when it was a battle of the influencers for more and more likes; I don't like it now that it's become a full-on Nazi bar.
As the saying goes: "If there’s a Nazi at the table and ten other people sitting there talking to him, you got a table with eleven Nazis."

I made an #OpenToWork post on #LinkedIn today partly as an experiment, and as before was immediately inundated with HR bots. I spent a few minutes from time to time stringing one along, out of curiosity. One way I know it's a bot is that no human recruiter would stick with me for that long a duration given the nonsense I was entering. Anyway, at one point it emitted that there was a job it was "recruiting" for, titled "Generative AI & LLM Remediation Consultant | United States (Remote/Onsite)" at a company named "Independent Consultant (Contract Role)". It's fairly clear to me that the bot was tasked with constructing fake job listings based off information people share. I can only guess what its actual purpose is.

I'm far from a civility advocate, and think we need to have challenging and uncomfortable conversations sometimes. But this knee-jerk culture war stuff is thought-terminating, which is the last thing we need right now.
Apparently, if you get a message about this price increase and then cancel your subscription, you're magically offered the option to subscribe to "Office 365 Classic", which is the same price and doesn't have the AI features.
I don't pay for an Office 365 subscription so I can't verify if this works, but frankly if I did I'd cancel it right now as a way to get rid of the AI. I'm sharing in case it helps anyone, and I'd love to hear if anyone tries this and if it works.
Oh and as an aside: whenever you come across scammy corporate behavior like this you should report it to the FTC at https://ftc.gov/complaint . That form eventually asks for a bunch of personal information like you're address but you can omit that.
