The Rest Of The World may want to criticize this old record over the titles of the songs listed above...
But, Surely The Rest Of The World will Dig these Classic Rockers!
Notice the Title of the record is in BIG letters and the Name of the Band is printed in much smaller letters...But, Warren Phillips didn't care!
Warren Phillips was like that kid on the classic Twisted Sister MTV Video:
"Whadddaaa You Wanna Do With Your Life?"
Warren Phillips just wanted to Rock!
The tale goes that Warren Phillips and The Rockets basically appeared out of nowhere in late '68 or so, playing all up and down the East Coast of the USA.
Warren didn't care what the Freakin' Trippin' Hippies were doin' out on the West Coast or up in New York - It was like he was from another decade and he just wanted to play the Classics of Rock!
In a rare radio interview, Warren was asked why the band didn't play original songs. He answered that question with a question: "How would I even begin to write a song better than "Be-Bop-A-Lula" or "Johnny B. Goode?"
"Everyone knows and loves these songs! They dance and sing along! And, no one has ever asked for their money back after a show!"
Anyway, Warren Phillips and The Rockets played Anywhere and Everywhere: clubs, bars, fairs, high school gyms and occasionally as Opening Act.
A man who knew a man who worked in the Record Industry suggested he check into the band. He did and arranged the record presented here.
Warren suggested recording them Live, But the Record Exec. insisted on a Studio Album! So, Warren signed on the dotted line for the Decca record label and the record was recorded in record time...
Back out on the road they went.
Not long after The World Of Rock And Roll was released, their Tour Manager got a call from another Tour Manager from one of the Biggest Bands of 1969.
Warren Phillips and The Rockets had just played Charlotte, NC and were needed in Atlanta, GA the Next Day by this Huge Band for a 3 night gig, as their original opening act couldn't appear as planned.
A small charter plane left from a local airstrip headed to Atlanta...
But, Warren Phillips and The Rockets never made it!
Somewhere over the Appalachian Mountains their plane went down...
Or, so it was assumed, but no wreckage was ever found - to this day!
Warren Phillips and The Rockets disappeared from the Music Scene as Mysteriously as they appeared...
But, they left one (and only one) heck of a Great, Rockin' LP!

Ok, Folks -
I was just havin' some fun with my bio of Warren Phillips and the Rockets!
I was "Pulling Your Leg!"
OR, In Other Parts of the World (Since they seem to be keepin' a close eye on me - Do I Sound Paranoid? Should I?) I was:
having you on, pulling the wool over your eyes, taking the piss, winding you up, Me estas engañando, Iemand bij de neus nemen, Tu tire ma jambe, Etc.
So, Here's The TRUE STORY of Warren Phillips and The Rockets:
During a break in the studio while recording Savoy Brown's 1969 "A Step Further" album, Dave, Tony (AKA Tone) and Roger started jamming, picking old rock tunes off the top of their heads. Unknown to them, the engineer had the tapes rolling. After hearing the tapes they decided to record a few more songs and release it as an album.
It was originally released in '69 as Warren Phillips and The Rockets - The World Of Rock And Roll in the UK and as Rocked Out! in the US. (And much later as Before Foghat Days)
It was done in the old "Sun Records" style,
and the original idea was to write phony liner notes about the lost recordings of the "legendary" Warren Phillips.
95% was recorded in one take.
