Blue Jays

Ever since we started keeping a little bucket
of peanuts in our crab apple tree, we've had
a nice group of Blue Jays feeding in our yard.
They've stayed since last winter, nested here
in the spring and raised their young over the summer!
I guess we better keep the peanut bucket full
for the next generation to come!
The jays are always fun to see with those beautiful
blue feathers....weather it's in the gold leaves
or against the sparkling snow!
If you want to keep a peanut bucket in your tree,
just punch a few holes in the bottom so it doesn't
fill with rain water and you're good to go!

The Early Bird Catches The Peanuts

I put a few peanuts in the feeder for Kiki, the mama squirrel.
Before she could even discover them, this Blue Jay swooped in
and took them away, one by one.
He sure was excited, too! haha.

Pink Snow

I worked out in the flower garden this morning.
The scent of blossoming trees was intoxicating!
And it snowed pink petals when the breeze picked up!

Bright Spot

This guy was a welcome splash of color
on this very cold, grey day!
I thanked him with peanuts.
It was a mutually agreeable arrangement. :)

Found A Peanut

In my yard yesterday!

One Blue Jay would swoop to the ground, grab a peanut and
sit in the tree and eat it.  Another Blue Jay would swoop down,
grab a peanut and bury it in the snow a few yards away!
I've never seen a bird do that before....more like a squirrel
than a bird!

Slate didn't catch any birds, but he had fun trying!

This And That

  1. Pretty in pink and in the shop.  Love this.
  2. Ahi tuna steak dinner.  One of our favorites.
  3. Starlings.  Almost had my own murmuration!
  4. Mr. Cardinal.  He was winking at me through the window!
  5. Socks, came home late New Year's Eve after being gone three days.  Looks like he was injured or in a fight.  I've been nursemaid this week.  He must have heard me say he should go to the vet because this morning he disappeared. ha.  And guess who just showed up tonight after the vet is closed!  Smart kitty.
  6. Blue Jay waiting for Shadow, the mighty bird hunter, to leave the area. ha.
  7. Breakfast.
I'm linking up with I'd Rather B Birdin' today.

November Wind and Rain

Yesterday the wind howled!  At some points, it sounded
like a freight train rolling down the middle of the neighborhood!
The cats crouched under furniture like they do when it thunders. ha.

The strong wind made the clouds roll by the windows at a rapid clip!
Bits of blue sky would occasionally show with bright white clouds,
only to be quickly covered up again by thick darkness and rain.

It was not a good hair day, even for the Blue Jays!

Garden Girl didn't seem to mind, though.
And she's nice and clean from her shower.

Eventually, the birds gave up trying to stay on board
the swaying feeders.

It was fun to watch the drips of rain during some of the quiet points.

Very few leaves are left.
Now we'll have to wait until April to see the new buds.

There's a chill in the air!
Feels like November!

The Sky, Lately...And Other "S" Things

  1. Skies of blue.
  2. Skies of pink.
  3. Skies of fire.
  4. Salad, Waldorf.  One of our favorites of fall.
  5. Surprises.  Because sometimes when you do a random act of kindness, they do one right back at you!  Thanks, Jane.
  6. Scenes, that don't look like they were snowed on yesterday at all!
  7. Silhouettes.

A Blue Shade Garden

Since Garden Girl was just standing in the side yard without
anything beautiful around her, I decided we should transform
that shady little spot into a lovely flower garden.

I'm looking out this window anyway, from my desk in the kitchen.
It might as well be a beautiful view as I bird-watch, right?

I really had a fun time at the garden center picking out
blue and white flowers and some slate pieces to create a
walk way to the gate.  It took me three carts and a couple
of checkouts, but I got it all loaded in the Jeep and then
arranged how I wanted it outside under the tree.

The Mister was nice enough to take up the grass, till the soil and plant
everything for me last night.  By the time I woke up this morning,
he had brought home a load of mulch and had it spread around.

Now I just need to keep it watered and enjoy the little sprouts
as they spread and fill in the whole space.

I really love how the sunlight comes softly through the tree
and makes dappled patterns on everything!
What an improvement to that little space!
