Happy Thanksgiving

I hope you all had a happy thanksgiving with family, friends
and whoever else you spent the day with!
We are spending our usual Black Friday at home,
in pajamas, eating pecan pie for breakfast!

Feeling thankful.
Counting blessings.

The Pie Challenge

The lovely Martha, who makes beautiful pies, included
me in a pie baking challenge.

Well, how fun, right?
Especially when you get to eat what you bake!

This was the easiest pie I ever made.
Rustic, free form...I didn't even peel the peaches.
I didn't even use a recipe!

Just a single scratch crust on a cookie sheet,
filled the center with peaches tossed with sugar, flour, cinnamon
and butter.  Folded the edges up and brushed them with
heavy cream.  Baked 45 minutes at 400.

Thanks, Martha!
Yum!

Can She Bake A Berry Pie?

She can bake a berry pie
in the twinkling of an eye! ♪♪♪

I puttered in the kitchen today and this was the result!
Real butter, all from scratch, pie a la mode.

There's something therapeutic about baking.
I can be alone with my thoughts and just enjoy the process.
And later, enjoy the results!

Vintage Rolling Pins

I brought these home from the auction last week.
I really wanted the milk glass one for myself...it would be fun
to use and look great in my grey and white kitchen!
And when they put the other three in a group and the bid
was low, I took those, too!  I love the Springerle Mold one.
You roll out cookie dough, then roll this mold over the dough,
which creates little squares with the designs.  Then just
use a pizza wheel to cut the squares into pretty little cookies!

The lovely Lauren didn't have a rolling pin yet, so she chose
the pretty dark wood one.  It's carved from one piece of wood,
very smooth and beautiful!

I love thinking about their history, how many Thanksgiving
pies they made and how many generations they were
passed through.  They also look right at home with my
grey marble rolling pin, which I got as a wedding gift.
Hmm....it's probably considered vintage, too!
I guess I officially have a collection now!

Memorial Day Pies

I spent Sunday afternoon baking pies for Memorial Day.
We're getting together with some of The Mister's extended family.
Apple, Pecan and Blueberry.
The house smelled wonderful.

The prep work, and waiting to be baked.

Cooling, posing for photographs, and waiting for a scoop of ice cream!

Happy Memorial Day!
Thank you, countless patriots, who gave their lives for our freedom!
