Hacavitz/Darkness Beyond/Dark Descent Records/2015 CD Review

  Hacavitz  are  a  band  from  Mexico  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this zine  and  played  a  bestial  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  on  previous  releases  but  go  for  more  a  traditional  style  of  black  metal  this  time  around  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Darkness  Beyond"  which  will  be  released  on  February  24th  by  Dark  Descent  Records.

  A  very  dark  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams  and  you  can  also  hear  a  death  metal  influence  being  mixed  in  the  riffing  at  times  along  with  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  the  music  brings  in  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.  

  Most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  a  good  portion  of  the  music  focuses  more  on  a  traditional  style  of  black  metal  than  previous  releases  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  as  the  album  progresses  one  of  the  tracks  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  and  ethnic  elements  before  returning  back  to  more  of  a  raw  style  of  black  metal  and  they  also  add  a  depressive  approach  to  the  vocals  on  some  of  the  tracks  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  finally  added  onto  the  recording  they  are  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  musical  direction.

  Hacavitz  strip  all  of  the  death  metal  and  bestial  elements  out  of  their  musical  style  and  go  for  more  of  a  straightforward  black  metal  direction  and  while  it  does  the  have  the  brutality  of  previous  releases and  will  might  anger  some  of  their  long  time  fans,  the  music  is  still  very  great  quality  black  metal  and  still  unleashes  a  very  dark,  grim  and  evil  atmosphere,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  mostly  English  with  some  tracks  in  Spanish  and  cover  dark,  occult  and  pre  Hispanic  Mythology  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  from  Hacavitz  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  and  raw  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Deadream"  "Darkness  beyond"  and  "Time  Is  Now".  8  out  of  10.

Hacavitz/Katun/Moribund Records/2007 CD Review

  Hacavitz  are  a  band  from  Mexico  that  plays  a  very  heavy,  aggressive,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  hybrid  of  black,  death  and  war  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2007  album  "Katun"  which  was  released  by  Moribund  Records.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  great  amount  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  are  very heavy  aggressive,  brutal,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  combining  black,  death  and  war  metal  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  chaotic  sounding  black/death  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads.

  Vocals range  from  high  pitched  black metal  screams  to  deep  blackened  death  metal  growls  as  well  as  some  shamanistic  sounds  of  mixture,  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Spanish  and  English  and  cover  Satanism,  Aztec,  Mayan  and  Occult  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  heavy,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

  In  my  opinion  Hacavitz  are  a  very  great  sounding  heavy,  brutal,  aggressive,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  hybrid  of  black, war  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Regnum  Satani(In  League  With  Satan  We  Ride)"  "Summoning  Self-Destruction"  "Ride  Thee  Nebulah"  and  "Serpents  Ov  Smoke".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
