Scour/Gold/Housecore Records/Nuclear Blast/2025 Full Length Review

 

  U.S.A's  Scour  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  raw  mixture  of  black,  death  metal,  grindcore  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  album  "Gold"  which  will  be  released  in  February  as  a  joint  effort  between  Nuclear  Blast  and  Housecore  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  chaotic  yet  melodic  style  and t he  back  up  shouts  also  add  in  a  touch  of  punk.

  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  brutality  of  death  metal  and  grindcore  while  some  of  the  riffing  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  words,  when  synths  are  introduced  onto  the  album  they  also  capture  the  atmosphere  of  a  classic  horror  film  and  they  also  add  in  a  couple  of  instrumentals.

  On  this  recording  Scour  takes  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  death  metal,  grindcore  and  punk  to  create  a  very  brutal  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  horror  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Scour  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black,  death  metal,  grindcore  and  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Cross"  "Coin"  "Invoke"  and  "Serve'.  8  out  of  10.

Scour/The Black/Housecore Records/2020 EP Review

 

  U.S.A's  Scour  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which shows  the  music  going  for  a  raw  and  brutal  mixture  of  black,  death  metal  and  grindcore  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  ep  "The  Black"  which  will  be  released  on  November  27th  by  Housecore  Records.

  Air  raid  sirens  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  chaotic  guitar  solos  and  leads  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  takes  the  music  into  a  heavier  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are a  mixture  of  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  guttural  sounding  death  metal  growls  while  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  leads.  At  times  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  also  adds  in  the  brutality  of  grindcore  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  O  of  the  tracks  is  also  an  instrumental  also  adding  in  some  classical  music  style  keyboards  and  stringed  instruments  before  closing  the  ep  with  a  heavier  track,  members  from  Hate  Eternal  and  Cannibal  Corpse  also make  guest  appearances  on  a  couple  of  songs.  The production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  anti  Christianity  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Scour  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  metal  with  some  touches  of  thrash  metal  and  grindcore,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLIUDE  "Doom"  and  "Subprime".

Scour/Red/Housecore Records/2017 EP Review

  Scour  are    band  from  the  United  States  that h as  had  music  reviewed  before in  this  zine  and  consists  of  many  legendary  extreme  metal  musicians  and  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  with  some  elements  of  thrash  and  grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  ep  "Red"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Housecore  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  while  the  vocals  mix  demonic  growls  and  high  pitched  screams  into  the  same  songs.

  A  lot  of t he  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  by  the  90's  second  wave  style  but  with  a  more  modern  feeling  along  with  some  elements  of  grindcore  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  tracks  also bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  you  can  also  hear  a  touch  of  thrash  at  times,  synths  are  also  used  briefly  on  one  of  the  tracks.

  Scour  remains  true to  the  raw  black  metal  style  of  their  previous  release  while  still mixing  in  touches  of  grindcore  and  thrash,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Scour  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Red"  and  "Shank".  8  out  of  10.

Scour/Self Titled/Housecore/2016 EP Review

  Scour  are  a  band  from  the  United  States  which  features  members  of  Viking  Crown,  Christ  inversion,  Pantera,  Down,  Cattle  Decapitation,  Pig  Destroyer,  Continuum,  and  Strong  Intention  and  the  band  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  grindcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2016  ep  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Housecore  Records.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  as  well  as  some  grim  vocals while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  dark  sounding  melodies  at  times  and  after  awhile  aggressive  screams  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  bring  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  style  of  black  metal  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  on  later  songs  elements  of  crust  and  grindcore  are  added  into  the  music  along  with  the  vocals  also  using  more  growling  style  vocals  and  some  tracks  also  bring  in  a  more  modern  style  of  black  metal.  and  the  songs  sound  different  from each  other  while  one  track  also  brings  in a   brief  use  of  synths.

  Scour  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  aggressive  while  also  adding in  touches  of  death  metal,  grind  and  crust  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark and  violent  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Scour  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  black  metal  band  with  elements  of  grind  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dispatched"  and  "Tear  Gas".  8  out  of  10.
