Jumalhamara/Songless Shores/Ahdistuksen Aihio Productions/2014 EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Jumalhamara  which   shows  the  band  returning  back  to  a   more  experimental  black  metal  sound  with  the  ep  being  released  in  2014  by  Ahdistuksen  Ahio  Productions  and  called  "Songless  Shores".

  A  variety  of  many  different  bell  sounds  start  off  the  18  minute  piece  and  you  can  hear  some  guitar  riffing  in  the  background  which  brings  the  black  metal sound  to  the  recording  along  with  some  weird  voices  that  evolve  into  grim  vocals  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  start  sounding  very  powerful  and  after  a  few  minutes  in  that  direction  the  band  goes  into  a  more  calmer  sound  with  some  classical  guitars  while  also  having  drones  coming  out  of  the  guitars,  which  leads  to  melodic Gregorian  chants  becoming  a  part  of  the  track  along  with  psychedelic  sounds  and  a  few  minutes  later  you  can  hear  some  experimental  sounds  starting  to  kick  in  along  with  some  shouting  style  vocals  and  after  awhile  the  Gregorian  chants  and  psychedelic  sounds  make  a  return  to  the  song.

  Jumalhamara  show  a  great  amount  of  diversity  with  their  18  minute  song  bringing  in  a  black  metal  sound  in  the  beginning  and  then  going  into  a  more  psychedelic  and  experimental  direction  as  the  song  progress  along  with  a  very  powerful  sounding  production  and  lyrics  that  cover  enlightenment  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Jumalhamara  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  8  out  of  10.

Jumalhamara/Resitaali/Ahdistuksen Aihio Productions/2013 CD Review

  Jumalhamara  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  started  out  as  a  very  psychedelic  and  post  form  of  black  metal  but  go  into  a  dark  ambient/organ  direction  with  this  recording.  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Resitaali"  which  was  released  by  Ahdistuksen  Aihio  Productions.

  Synths  start  off  the  recording  and  they  use  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  which  gives  the  album  an  almost  folk  music  feeling  as  well  as  being  all  instrumental  on  the  first  song  and  all  of  the  4  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Synths  and  organs  are  the  only  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  with  no  vocals  or  guitars  being  present  and  all  of  the  songs  are  instrumental  and  there  are  a  good  amount  of  minimal  neo-classical  elements  being  mixed  with  dark  ambient  through  out  the recording.

  With  this  recording  Jumalhamara  stay  away  from  the  metal  aspects  of  their  earlier  recordings  and  let  the  synths  and  organs  take  over  which  results  in  a  very  dark  and  meditative  sounding  ambient  album  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  well  produced.

  In  my  opinion  this   is  a  very  decent  sounding  recording  from  Jumalhamara,  while  some  of  their  more  black  metal  fans  might  hate  it,  I  can  see  this  album  appealing  to  fans  of  dark  meditative  ambient  music.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I"  and  "Iv".  7/5  out  of  10.
