Necromutilator/Oath Of Abhorrence/Osmose Productions/2022 Full Length Review

Italy's  Necromutilator  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  raw  and  satanic  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Oath  of  Abhorrence"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Osmose  Productions.

Ritualistic  spoken  word  samples  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  thrash  metal  influenced  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  80's  to  early  90's  era.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  tremolo  picking  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  when  they  are  utilized.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  remain  true  to  an  old  school  extreme  metal  style  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  recording  closes  with  some  horror  movie  samples

On  this  recording  Necromutilator  brings  in  more  of  a  raw,  old  school  and  satanic  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Evil,  Death  and  Blasphemy  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Necromutilator  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  old  school  and  satanic  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Raise  The  Necroapocalypse"  "Alter  Of  The  First  Sodomy"  and  "Malevolent  Blood".  8  out  of  10.

Necromutilator/Black Blood Aggression/Terror From Hell Records/2019 CD Review

Necromutilator  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  evil  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  :Black  Blood  Aggression"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Terror  From  Hell  Records.

Ritualistic  spoken  word  and  horror  movie  samples  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  musical  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  blackened  metal  screams.

Elements  of  death  and  thrash  metal  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  some  touches  of  war  and  bestial  black/death  metal.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  demonic  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times.

A  great  amount  of  80's  and  80's  influences  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  but  with  a  more  up  to  date  take.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  raw  and  chaotic  style  and  as  the  album  progresses  spoken  word  samples  also  make  a  brief  return  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction,  all  of  the  musical instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Evil  and  Death  themes.

Necromutilator Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new ep?

The “Ripping Blasphemy” MLP was recored and mixed between december 2015 and february 2016. It actually have been officially released on April 1st 2017 on both vinyl and cassette. During 2016 we had some good gigs around Italy and also France and Germany with KILL from Sweden. Paris was great and opening for Raging Death Date festival too. Basically we were still promoting our first album “Eucharistic Mutilations” so, things has been going well. In september 2016 we started the making of new songs for the next full length album.

2.You have a new ep coming out in April, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

Well, I think this new record has more quality in the musical sound, due to the better way of recording than the past work. Musical style is basically on the same path we always had, but maybe with a little bit more aggressive riffs. Hope it will be a killer bridge between our first and second album.

3.Your lyrics cover a lot of satanic topics, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in Satanism?

Necromutilator’s lyrics are very impulsive and instictive. I don’t like the idea to give an “intellectual” perspective as it happens a lot in the nowadays black or death metal scene even if I sometimes like it. Not only, I personally love occult readings and deepen satanic theories and practice since years, but here I just prefer a more direct and violent way of spitting chaos. Lyrics mainly goes around the imagine of Satan as the adversary, opposition and enemy, melting it with cosmic horror, rituals and death worship. I also love the way how old satanic horror movies from the 60s and 70s (but not only) perfectly showed the “satanic panic” we want to recreate. Sexual imageries are important too. There is no space for trendy symbols or languages.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Necromutilator'?

Even if you can easily interpret the name as a “corpse mutilator” I meant the name as a “mutilating corpse” since the very beginning. I recognize it has nothing special but it perfectly represent the old school extreme metal I always worshipped. The name is like the musical purpose, just metal chaos, sickness and fuck off.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

I need to admit I always thought we are not great or talented musicians, so live rituals has always been seen full of mistakes and something like that. On the other hand, as the time passed, we started playing more relaxed simply not caring about it. I could say the recent years always went good on stage. Best stage performance is when there is total understanding and mood sharing. If we are all in the same mood the ritual is going complete and well done. The crowd come secondly of course but energy increases if it going insane, of course. Very good shows I can remember were supporting Demilich in Milan, or last year in Pescara, Paris or Padova just to make a couple of examples.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans once the ep is released?

No tour is planned. Maybe in the future, who knows.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black, death and thrash metal?

As I could see, worldwide feedback has always been positive. I take this opportunity to thank all the bands and people who supported and still support us through buying or trading stuff or simply coming to shows.

8.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

Everything created in the past is still dead. Me and the bassist had a raw black metal two-piece band until 2011, but except a couple of shows in 2013 the band never resurrected. The drummer’s past band is dead since years too. I used to play bass for live shows in a local thrash metal band last year but it’s dead too. Maybe some idea will raise but I prefer to say nothing about other projects or bands for the moment.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We’ll keep on going doing this until we’ll have energy. We are currently working on the new album and hope to star the recordings until the end of this year. In the meanwhile live shows will be played as always with full force.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We still buy and support new bands going to shows and digging into the underground, but the main influences always remain the classic Venom, Bathory, Hellhammer, Sarcofago, Blasphemy but even Darkthrone and all late 80s black, death and thrash worldwide underground sound. I’m still into extreme underground listening mainly stuff from the glorious past but always try to be receptive to the new good stuff that can emerge from the underground.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

Personally, extreme music is my main passion but also love digging into old movies, from horror to classic italian but (also worldwide) action thriller, war, spaghetti western, comedies or comedy-drama films.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Metal or Die!! Hail Satanas!!
