Warahran Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Thank you for having us! Warahran is an Iranian extreme metal band focusing on black metal. The band started in 2022 but due to some problems, our first release will be in late 2025.

2.You have a new album coming out in November, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

We tried to mix many genres while keeping black metal as our main sound. On this record, we mostly explored thrash, death and progressive metal.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

Although the last track on the album (Ten Thousand Immortals) is a song based on history, for the other songs we focused on war and the different aspects of it.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Warahran'?

"Warahran" is the ancient god of war in Persian mythology. We wanted something related to war while representing our nationality.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

The artwork shows a man that is crying blood and burning in fire. He is seeking help to get out of the fire of the war which he himself started.

6.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

Yes, we are open to any change that we think is good for the project and would help us in making better music.

7.Is life still very dangerous for a fan of extreme metal in Iran in 2025?

Although it got better in past years, it is still dangerous for an extreme metal fan here, specially for artists.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

We haven't received any interest yet, but we are open to it. It is important to remember that transferring money here might be a problem which makes it harder to find labels.

9.On  a worldwide level, how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

We have to wait until the album is fully released, but we anticipate many people (especially fans of old-school black metal) might hate us. We try to find our own fans in the community.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We may or may not change the sound that we already have, we try to explore and experiment with different things and keep what sounds good.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Our inspirations are mostly black and thrash metal bands, especially bands like Slayer, Exodus, Kreator, Marduk, Death, Dark Funeral, Dissection, Immortal etc.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

We will keep making music. Right after releasing the album, we are going for new songs, so stay tuned!

Warahran/Midnight Fire/2025 Full Length Review

Warahran  are  a  duo  from  Iran  that  plays  a  very  aggressive  form  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  progressive,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released 2025  album  "Midnight  Fire"  which  was  released  in  November.

A  very  heavy  yet  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and r aw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  mixed  in  with  a  few  death  metal  growls  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  add  in  a  lot  of  melody.

At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  progressive  sounding  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  thrash  metal  elements.  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Warahran  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  traditional  sounding  as  well  as  adding  in  progressive,  death  and  thrash  metal  elements  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  war  and  battle  themes.

In  my  opinion  Warahan  is  a  very  great  sounding  black  metal  duo  with  elements  of  progressive,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Eternal  Nightmare"  "Hills  Of  Corpses"  and  "Ten  Thousand  Immortals".  8  out  of  10.
