Invertia/Through The Black Bubble/2023 Full Length Review

Massachusetts's  Invertia  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  them  moving  away  from  the  mixture  of  black,  death  and  industrial  metal  from t heir  previous  releases  and  focusing  more  on  an  oppressive  death/doom  metal  style  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "Through  The  Black  Bubble"  which  will  be  self  released  in  2023.

Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs.  Vocals  are  mostly  deep  death  metal  growls  along  with  some  melodies  also  being  added  into  the  guitar  riffing  at  times  and  all  of  the  drum  beats  are  programmed.

Touches  of  industrial  can  also  be  heard  at times  but  with  less  impact  than  the  previous  release  where  they  had  a  bigger  role.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  introduced  onto  the  recording  they  are  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  along  with  some  synths  also  being  added  into  the  background  briefly.

Most  of  the  album  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  as  well  as  a  couple  of  the  tracks  being  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  blast  beats  also  being  utilized  briefly  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  and  one  song  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  oppression  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  decent  sounding  recording  from  Invertia  and  while  some  fans  of  their  earlier  industrial  black  metal  albums  might  not  be  into  the  newer  style,  I  can  see  this  release  appealing  more  to  fans  of  doom/death  metal.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Preaching  To  The  Fire"  "The  Old  Suckers"  and  "Super  Morbidly  Deceased".  7/5  out  of  10.

Invertia/The Crimson Screen Vol. 1/2017 EP Review

Invertia  are  a  duo  from  Massachusetts  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  continues  their  mixture  of  black,  death  and  industrial  metal  on  this  recording  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2017  ep  "The  Crimson  Screen Vol.  1"  which  will  be  released  on  Halloween.

Industrial  sound  along  with  some  heavy  riffs  start  off  the  ep  while  the  vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling.

A  decent  amount  of  melody  can  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  give  the  songs  more  of  a  technical  touch  and  elements  of  noise  can  also  be heard  briefly.

Invertia  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  their  mixture  of  black,  death  and  industrial  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  classic  horror  movie  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Invertia  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black, death  and  industrial  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Cast  No  Shadow"  and  "Created  From  Cadavers".  8  out  of  10.

Invertia  are  a  duo  form  Boston,  Massachusetts  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  industrial  form  of  black  metal  while  also  introducing  death  metal  and  hardcore  punk  elments  onto  this  recording  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2016 album  "The  Biddings  of  Tyrants"  which  will  be  released  in  December.

Electro  industrial  sounds  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  side  of  the  songs  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  death  metal  growls  and  morbid  sounding  melodies  and  spoken  word  samples  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

Throughout  the  recording t here  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  after  awhile grim  black  metal  screams  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  some  of  the  riffs  bring  in  the  rawness  of  hardcore  punk  and throughout  the  recording  you  can hear  a great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast parts  and  some  of  the  riffing  also  mixes  in  the  more  technical  side  of  death  metal.

Invertia  creates  a  recording  that  still  has  some  black  metal  roots  while  evolving  more  into  an  industrial  influenced  blackened  death  metal  style  with  this  album,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  world  around  us  and  its  effect  on  the  human  psyche.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Invertia  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  industrial  or  blackened  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dystopiate"  "Thetan  Hop"  "Scatter"  and  "Trapped  &  Tilored".  8  out  of  10.

Invertia Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?
We are rehearsing with Kurt from Submerged/Ohm Resistence who is playing bass with us for our debut live performance at St. Vitus Bar in Brooklyn on May 31.

2.You have a new album coming out in April, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction of the new recording and also how does it differ from the album you had released a year ago?
The new album is a little more sophisticated than our debut and definitely darker and more dynamic. It's an evolvement from the first album because we didn't really know where we were heading or what was going to happen, and with our first album we solidified our sound & now the new album we got crazier & nastier with this beast.

3.Can you tell us a little bit more about the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?
Its so hard to talk about, that's why we write the songs. Overall, we call shenanigans when we see it. If there's bullshit going on we make it shine so people can see it so that they can react to it.

4.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you planning on expanding the line yo in the future or do you chose to remain a duo?
Well we mentioned Kurt performing live with us & we do plan to work with him in the future on new songs as well as others if they come along and are a good match.

5.The other have of the album was all re-mixes and you had some well known members of the industrial scene participating on these tracks, how did you get in contact with these musicians an where you satisfied with the final result?
Godflesh was a major influence on us so it's great that we got Justin to remix The Sidewinding & he really did a fantastic job remixing it by giving us a dark ambient take on our music, but more than that, we are fans first & they all influenced us, and we our fans of Invertia too so we aren't going to write something that we don't like ourselves & that's why it's cool to listen to somebody else's take on it.

6.The new album is coming out on Ohm Resistance,  how did you get in contact with this label and also how would you describe the support they have given you so far?
3 of the artists who did our remixes are in Blood Of Heroes which is on Ohm Resistence, and working with Ohm Resistence, everything that they have said they would do, they have done so they are a straight up record label.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal and industrial?
It's probably going to be someone looking for something outside of either of those scenes that would would really love what we do, but we seem to be getting more and more fans on our social media sites and tickets for the upcoming live show are selling very well.

8.Are the band members involved with any other musical projects these days?
Dave has a side project called TranZi3nT and Tim is R3TRD and both of these are more experimental in nature & it keeps Invertia sounding fresh and evolving.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Fusing other elements into the music other than what we are already doing and exploring the edges of the genres that we are currently in.

10.What are some bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Influences include Mayhem, Devo, Skinny Puppy, Kraftwork, Godflesh, Scorn, Ministry etc. Currently listening to Les Claypool's Duo De Twang & SIMM
11.How would you describe your views on Satanism and occultism?

12.What are some of your non musical interests?
Dave's really into old school horror movies and The New York Yankees, and Tim's trying to do a Youtube series called "Cooking With Invertia"

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Have a nice day and drive safe. Don't text and drive.

Invertia/Another Scheme of the Wicked/Ohm Resistance/2014 CD Review

Invertia  are  a  band  from   Massachusetts  that  plays  a  mixture  of  oppressive  black  metal  and  industrial  with  some  death  metal  elements  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Another  Scheme  Of  The  Wicked"  which  will  be  released  by  Ohm  Resistance.

The  album  starts  out  with  dark  and  distorted  drones  and  sounds  along  with  some  melody  and  spoken  word  samples  before  adding  in  a  more  raw  and  fast  black  metal  sound  mixed  in  with  industrial  along  with  some  deep  grim  vocals  which  also  turn  into  high  pitched  screams  at  times  and  after  awhile  solos  and  leads  are  added  into  the  music.

When  the  album  goes  into  other  songs  the  black  metal  elements  become  a  more  dominant  part  of  the  music  while  also  focusing  more  on  the  darker  end  of  that  genre and  they  also  bring  in  some  brutal  death  metal  influences  as  well  as  never  straying  to  far  away  from  the  industrial  sounds  and  you  can  also  hear  some  melody  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  programmed  blast  beats.

The  second  half  of  the  album  are  all  remixed  versions  of  the  first  part  of  the  recording  and  it  starts  out  with  an  industrial  noise  style  of  sound  before  adding  in  the  grim  black  metal  vocals  and  screams  and  a  few  seconds  later  distorted  melodies  become  a  part  of  the  music  and  they  also  keep  the  spoken  word  samples  which  where  a  huge  part  of  the  first  side  of  the  recording.

When  we  get  more  into  the  second  side  the  bass  guitars  get  more  powerful  and  the  industrial  sounds  along  with  elements  from  other  genres  of  electronic  music  really  start  to  dominate  the  recording  and  they  also  keep  around  the  black  metal  guitar  riffs.

With  this  album  Invertia  take  an  oppressive  form  of  black  metal  and  mix  it  in  with  industrial  and  electronic  music  while  also  having  some  brutal  death  metal  elements  which  lead  up  to  a  very  heavy  and  original  sounding  recording  which  also  has  remixes  done  by  Justin  Broadrick  of  Godflesh  and  Jesu,  End.user  of  The  Blood  of  Heroes  and  Submerged  of  The  Blood  of  Heroes  and  Method  Of  Definince.

Song  lyrics  cover  Satanism  and  Anti  Christian  themes,  while   the production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful  and heavy  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  along  with  some  of  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  Invertia  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  oppressive  black  metal  and  industrial  music  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Sidewinding"  and  "Hourglass  Without  Sand".  8/5  out  of  10.
