Joy Shannon/T.O.M.B/Death My Bride/2022 Collaboration EP Review

T.O.M>B  are  a  band  from  Pennsylvania  that h as  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  occult  black  metal, d ark  ambient,  noise  and  death  industrial  on  most  of  their  releases  but  go  into  more  of  an  experimental  style  with  this  recording  and  on  this  recording  they  team  up  with  Joy  Shannon  a  solo  artist  from  Ireland  and  plays  Celtic  folk  music  and  on  this  recording  they  both  team  up  and  mix  their  different  styles  together  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2022  collaboration  ep  "Death  My  Bride".

Cello's  start  off  the  ep  and  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  avant  garde  vibe  along  with  some  clean  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  add  in  touches  of  Celtic  folk  music.  Ambient  style  soundscapes  and  drones  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  and  the  whole  ep  also  sticks  to  a  slower  musical  direction  as  well a s  some  harp's  also  being  utilized  at t imes..

On  this  recordin  T.O.M.B  move  away  from  the  black  metal  and  death  industrial  style  of  their  regular  releases  and  bring  in  more  of  an  experimental,  drone  and  ambient  style  to  the  Celtic  folk  music  style  of  Joy  Shannon.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  Irish  Folklore  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collaboration  between  T.O.M.B  and  Joy  Shannon  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ambient,  drone  and  neo-folk,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Song  To  The  Siren".  8  out  of  10.

Raus!/Perunwit/Under the Sign Of the Black Sun/2014 Split CD Review

This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Poland  and  England's  Raus!  and  Poland's  Perunwit  called  "Under  The  Sun  Of  the  Black  Sun"  which  was  released  in  2014  by  Odium  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Raus!  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  industrial  black  metal  and  martial  dark  ambient.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  off  with  an  intro  that  is  in  the  more  industrial  noise  direction  along  with  epic  sounding  synths  which  also  bring  a  neo-folk  feeling  to  the  recording  and  after  the  into  the  music  goes  into  a  more  fast  black  metal  direction  as  well  as  mixing  in  industrial  music  which  also  leads  up  to  grim  black  metal  vocals  along  with  spoken  word  samples.

After  the  intro  and  first  song  spoken  word  samples  are  used  more  frequently  and  the  music  starts  adding  in  more  martial  elements  as  well  as  mixing  them  with  industrial  and  black  metal  and  on  one  of  the  songs  they  bring  in  deeper  vocals  which  gives  the  music  a  death  metal  feeling  along  with  a  small  amount  of  melodic  chanting

Raus!  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  diversity  with  their  music  and  aon  the  songs  they  bring  to  the  split  you  can  hear  everything  from  black  metal,  industrial,  martial,  dark  ambient  and  neo  folk  which  gives  this  band  a  very  original  sound  to  them  and  they  can  go  from  being  very  heavy  to  dark  and  epic  sounding.

Song lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  war,  hatred,  mysticism,  perversion  and  misanthropy,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  heavy  and  epic  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  Raus!  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  industrial  black  metal  and  martial  dark  ambient  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  styles,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Raus"  and  "Genocidum  Atrox".

Next  up  is  Perunwit  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  neo  folk  and  dark  ambient.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  with  an  intro  that  begins  with  nature  sounds  before  adding  in  tribal  drums  and  a  medieval  folk  music  sound  and  after  the  intro  classical  music  sounds  are  added  into  their  side  of  the  split  before  going  into  a  more  dark  and  pagan  medieval  sound  while  also  having  a  shamanistic  feeling  to  it  as  well  as  having  some  melodic  chanting.

When  the  other  songs  are  brought  in  the  music  starts  taking  on  a  more  ritualistic  feeling  and  has  the  sound  of  the  ancient  pagan  gods  being  invoked  as  well  as  bringing  in  more  folk  instruments  and  bringing  out  the  feeling  of  the  dark  ages  and  on  the last  song  their  is  a  small  amount  of  classical  music  style  synths.

With  this  recording  Perunwit  stay  away  from  the  folk  metal  sound  of  the  later  releases  and  returns  back  to  the  more  dark  neo  folk  sound  of  their  earlier  recordings  and  all  of  the  songs  they  bring  to  the  split  are  very  ritualistic  sounding  as  well  as  being  some  of  their  best  material  since  the  first  album.

Song  lyrics  are  mostly  absent  from  their  side  of  the  recording  with  the  music  being  all  instrumental,  while  the  song  themes  cover  Slavic  Paganism,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark  and  haunting  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Perunwit  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ritualistic  neo-folk  music,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Berserkir"  ang  "Sunwheel".

In  conclusion I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal,  industrial,  neo  folk  and  dark  ambient,  you  should  check  out  this  split.  8/5  out  of  10.

Sturmpercht / Rauhnacht/Zur Ew ' Gen Ru/Steinklang Records/2011 CD Review

This is a review of a 2 Austrian bands teaming together Sturmpercht a neo-folk band and Rauchnacht a pagan ambient black metal band which together combine their 2 music styles together to create "Zur Ew ' Gen Ru" which was released by Steinklang Records during the year of 2011.

Flutes and other folk instruments bring a very dark pagan medieval neo-folk music sound to music, while the drums range from slow to mid paced playing with not much in the way of fast playing or blast beats, as for the synths they are only utilized briefly and they bring a very dark and atmospheric sound to the music.

Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced ambient black metal riffs that are very raw and primitive sounding mixed in with some dark sounding melodies and there are no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.

Vocals are a mixture of clean singing, whispered vocals, spoken word parts and grim sounding black metal screams, while the lyrics are written in German and cover nature and pagan orientated themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.

In my opinion this is a great split between Sturmpercht and Rauhnacht and if you are a fan of neo-folk or ambient black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Track 2". RECOMMENDED BUY.
