Starer/Ancient Monuments & Ancient Sadness/Fiadh Productions/Adironack Black Mass/Snow Wolf Records/2025 Full Length Review

 

   Kentucky's  solo  project  Starer  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  atmospheric  and  symphonic  form  of  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Ancient  Monuments  &  Ancient  Sadness"  which  will  be  released  in  October  as  a  joint  effort  between  Fiadh  Productions,  Adironack  Black  Mass  and  Snow  Wolf  Records.

  A  very  melodic,  atmospheric  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Symphonic  sounds  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  songs.  Elements  of  post  metal  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  the  guitar  leads  being  done  in  a  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized,  one  song  also  introduces  clear  chants  and  singing  onto  the  album  and  a  couple  of  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  some  spoken  words  also  being  used  briefly.

  On  this  recording  Starer  continues  the  expand  on  the  atmospheric  and  symphonic  black  metal  style  of  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophy,  history  and  introspection  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Starer  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  symphonic  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I  Cry  Your  Mother's  Blood"  "Immortality  Of  Writers"  and  "Lie  Around  My  Neck".  8  out  of  10.

Starer/Myrvandrer/Mistral/Ambergaze/Four Sorrows/Fiadh Productions/Snow Wolf Records/2025 4 Way Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  4  way  split  album  between  U.S.A's  Starer,  Mexico's  Ambergaze,  Poland's  Mistral  and  Norway's  Myrvandrer  called  "Four  Seasons"  which  will  be  released  in  march  as  a  joint  effort  between  Fiadh  Productions  and  Snow  Wolf  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Starer  who  returns  with  an  atmospheric  and  symphonic  style  of  post  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  while  the  track  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  keyboards  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  some  symphonic  and  atmospheric  touches  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  song  of  the  song  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  

 Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  some  clean  playing  and  clear  vocals  also  being  utilized  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  and  the  lyrics  cover sorrow  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Starer  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  symphonic  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.

  Next  up  is  Myrvander  a  solo  project  that  plays  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  blackgaze  and  post  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  atmospheric  sounding  synths  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  song.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  riffs  and  solos  also  adding  in  post  rock  style  melodies

  When  clean  playing  is  utilized  it  brings  in  elements  of  shoegaze  as  well  as  some  spoken  words  being  used  briefly  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  lot  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can b e  heard  which  also  gives  the  track  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  and  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Myrvander  is  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  mixture  of  post  black  metal  and  blackgaze  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.

  Next  up  is  Mistral  who  return  with  an  atmosphere  mixture  of  post  black  metal  and  blackgaze.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  and  dark  sound  while  the  track  is  also  long  and  epic  in  length.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Mistral  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal  and  blackgaze,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  Closing  the  split  is  Ambergaze  a  solo  project  that  an  atmospheric  mixture  of  post  black  emtal  and  blackgaze.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  clean  playing  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  track  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  vocals  also  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can be  heard  which  also  gives  the  song  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Clear  vocals  are  also  utilized  briefly  as  well  as  the  clean  sections  also  bringing  in  elements  of  shoegaze,  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Ambergaze  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  post  black  metal  and  blackgaze  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  post  black  metal  and  blackgaze.  8  out  of  10.

  Kentucky's  solo  project  Starer  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  atmospheric  and  symphonic  style  of  post  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  album  "Wind,  Breeze,  or  Breath"  which  will  be  released  in  July  as  a  joint  effort  between  Folkvangr  Records,  Fiadh  Productions  and  Adironack  Black  Mass.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Symphonic  elements  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.  Clear  vocals  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  some  clean  playing  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style,  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

 On  this  album  Starer  remains  true  to  the  atmospheric  and  symphonic  style  of  post  black  metal  that  he  has  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  lucid  dreaming.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Starer  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  symphonic  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Drifting"  Witnessing"  and  "Returning".  8  out  of  10.

Starer/Remorse Defines Me/Snow Wolf Records/2022 EP Review

 

  Kentucky's  solo  project  Starer   has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  form  more  of  an  atmospheric  and  symphonic  form  of  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  ep  "Remorse  Defines  Me"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Snow  Wolf  Records.

  A  very  heavy  sound  along  with  some  symphonic  style  synths  start  off  the  ep  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can b e  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  The  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  music  also  mixing  in  some  mid  90's  era  old  school  influences  in  with  a  more  modern  post  black  metal  style.

  On  this  recording  Starer  takes  the  mid  90's  era  of  symphonic  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  a  more  modern  and  atmospheric  style  of  post  black  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Starer  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  symphonic  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Coiled  Around  The  Sun".  8  out  of  10.

  Starer  are  a  solo  project  form  Kentucky  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  symphonic  and  atmospheric  form  of  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "The  What  Is  To  Be"  which  will b e  released  in  march  as  a  joint  effort  between  Folkvangr  Records  and  Onism  Productions.

  Keyboards  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times  while  also  having  their  symphonic  moments.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  at  times.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.
