I am very fond of the Westwind Arthurian range, and finally got around to painting up their Arthur figure, but found a rearing horse from Black Tree Design to mount him on for extra heroic impact. The bloke with the horn is also from Westwind. As always the shields are hand painted. I can't bring myself to use decals.

Here also is my latest batch of ten 28mm Huns, mainly consisting of a group of noble cavalry. I gave a couple of them Roman tunics, which may have been looted from somewhere, or possibly suggest that the wearers once served as mercenaries for Rome. 

We also have a figure that I find very poignant of a Hun with a clearly terrified captive woman. This figure narrowly missed out on being sent in for the casualty bonus round.

Nearly all figures are from Foundry, with one from Gripping Beast. He's the one riding the creature that has some resemblance to a horse.

Very nice work Alan. Those hand-painted shields for the Arthurian figures are superb (though I will never begrudge anyone their decals, least of all me). The Huns are suitably ferocious though I must agree with you that some look like their riding large dogs. 

These lads, both chivalrous and not, will give Alan 120 points, placing him nicely amongst the top 10. Lovely stuff Mr. D!

Here are another ten Huns from Wargames Foundry. After my last effort, and feedback from Curt and Paul, I tried to improve the appearance of the snowy bases.   

Perhaps some of you in the Northern hemisphere could pop your heads out the window and tell me what you think? I couldn't get in touch with Miss Smilla.

Ooh! These are tasty! I'm seriously jealous as I've always wanted to do a Hunnic army and these are so well done. I like the ice/slush with the turf peeking through. As a suggestion I'd say that the grass should be tones of yellow/brown as it would be largely dead during the winter season. 

Love the Smilla reference (great novel)!

I'm flitting between a few different projects, as is my wont. This week, I have been mostly starting on a pile of unpainted Huns. These chaps have been making unruly noises in my lead mountain for a while, threatening some of the other figures and making unkind remarks about the Duchess, so it is time to get some paint on them. Appeasement? Perhaps.

I originally bought these Wargames Foundry figures for some rules I was working on for a version of SAGA set in the fourth and fifth centuries. Now I think they are also destined to act as Steppe Nomads in SAGA (some of those late Roman helmets were obviously treasured family heirlooms...), and might form the core of an army for Impetus.

I wanted to give them a beginning of winter feel, mainly to match up with my Pagan Rus figures. Having seen Curt's beautiful snow effects on his figures for the 1812 campaign, my snow looks very unconvincing. Then again, I live in Sydney, so what would I know?

Wonderful work Alan. I think all-horse Hunnic armies look so very cool on the tabletop. The natural earth tones of your Huns along with their mounts contrasts very nicely against the stark snowy terrain (even if it has a certain Hollywood fluff about it - as you say, you Sydneysiders can claim blissful ignorance regarding the artful nuances of ice & snow, lucky gits...). 

These 10 Steppe Nomads will give Alan 100 points. which places him within striking distance of his 500 point target. Great job! Paul and Alan - you best lash yourselves to the oars if you plan to catch up!

From JuanM: Late Romans and a Pillaging Hun (35 points)

As per his usual habit, Juan sends us a small, but very nicely executed entry for us to enjoy. This time we have a Hum taking some liberties with the locals and a stand of four Late Romans. 

The Late Romans are from Musketeer Miniatures, while the Hun vignette is from Wargames Foundry. All are 28mm. I really like Juan's choice of colours for the Hun's pony - it looks like it comes from the Steppes, very nicely done.

This group will give Juan 35 points. Beautiful work, Juan!
