Third-Tier Security Mooks

Hi There!

For this submission I have a team of third-tier security mooks to help quell all sorts of volatile situations. Things like chaos incursions, vehicle parking arguments and particularly aggressive seniors at grocery checkouts.

These models are from Knucklebone Miniatures, one of my favourite 3d designers.

I wanted a quasi 'Mega-City One' look for them so went with a distressed yellow ochre for their shoulder and knee pads. Also to give them a little 'somethin' somethin' so I provided them with snazzy looking chromatic visors - besides, the bad guys need something to aim for...

I had a few of mishaps removing supports with a couple of their weapon magazines going missing. Bad words may have been uttered. Anyway, I rolled with it and came up with some sprue replacements, but I placed them at their feet, figuring that these hapless new guys had accidentally thumbed the magazine eject on their weapons and are now caught wanting.

I like 'Number 10' the bare chested officer with the cigar. He has a sort of Robert Crumb counter-culture look about him.

I had some extra Adeptus Imperialis decals laying around and so gave the bunch their very own shoulder pad numbers. Easier for body identification...

These chalk outline aspirants will be valued additions to future games of Mothership, Kill Sample Process and Cy_Borg.

Thanks for dropping in for a peek!

Ick the Mage, his homunculus Funnel and Nick aka 'The Red Right Hand'

A trio of fantasy characters for this week.

First up is 'Ick the Mage' with his long-suffering but faithful homunculus, 'Funnel the Scroll Caddy'.

Creeping in the shadows is the assassin Nick, better known as 'The Red Right Hand'.

Nick is a public relations troubleshooter (troubleslicer?) for those situations where discrete action is required to bring other parties into 'enlightened alignment'.

All three of these miscreants are prints from Knucklebones Miniatures.

Have a great week everyone!

Ben the Cleric and Molly from the Town Militia

Just a couple new additions for the fantasy collection.

Today we have Ben the Cleric along with Molly from the Town Militia.

Both of these models are from Knucklebones Miniatures. I've been painting a lot of Knucklebone stuff over the past year and continue to really enjoy them - they have such great character, with lots of sculpted detail to play around with.

Case in point is Molly here with her polka dot skirts hiked-up to reveal her Landsknecht puff-and-slash uniform and assorted ironmongery. Formidable.

Molly came off the printer with a seam across her face. Instead of trying to remove it (a task I was not relishing), I decided to work with it instead. Using a tiny amount of milliput, I gave her a pair of tinted spectacles, incorporating the printing artefact. I figure this way she can comfortably blast away with her musket in the glorious bright sunshine.

I quite like the stolid pose of Ben the Cleric. 'If the blessing doesn't work then the warhammer will surely sort things out.'

I kept it fairly simple with him, with white tabard and leather scale mail over red robes. I just realized that the purity seals need some suitable lunatic script on them... Hmm. Time to pull out the fine nib pen I guess.

Thanks for popping in for a look! I hope to have a few more Fantasy figures coming off the bench soon.

Have a good one!

Chaos Warriors with Possessed Shields

I'm sure there are many mini painters who have had those weird hobby sessions where you pick out a couple of figures at random and the mojo just settles in, and before you know it they are gazing back at you, done in no time at all. I had that experience with these two fellas this weekend and thought I'd post them together as they seem to fall into a similar theme.

Here are two Chaos Warriors from Knucklebones Miniatures.

I always really enjoy the wonderful textures and character that the sculptor puts into his figures. Of course the standouts for these two are the shields. I look at them and imagine that the warriors themselves are mindless constructs, and rather it is the shields which provide the sentient force of will. Yeeash! Creepy AF.

They were a fun pair to work on and they will be fine additions to the Nasty Lads collection for Warhammer Fantasy and Forbidden Psalm.

Thanks for dropping by and have a great week!

Second unit of Brutes for Turnip28

Yeah, I know. It's been a looong time, I get it.

You haveta understand that this is what happens when nice weather arrives to a person living in an otherwise sub-arctic climate. Blogging? Who can be bothered when there's all this wonderful sun, heat and growing stuff going on. Let's just not talk about wildfires, okay?

Anyhoo, I haven't been completely sun-addled these past few months, in fact I've been uncharacteristically productive hobbywise, but I just couldn't be arsed to take photos and blog about it. Bad Curt! Baaad!

Nonetheless, here I am to make amends and catch up the best I can.

So first up is this second unit of Brutes for my Turnip28 collection.

I really like these 3d models from Knucklebones Miniatures (in fact he rarely does anything that I don't find interesting). They're just so characterful, a little bit kooky, and always a touch macabre. Perfect for the Turnip28 setting.

Next up is a unit of heavy cavalry for this T28 lunacy. Stay tuned!

Objective Markers for Turnip28

Hey there!

Turnip28 is focused on seizing and holding objectives. These are usually scattered around the battlefield, often nestled in tricky locations, all for opposing forces to bleed each other dry over. Objectives can just be simple tokens, but I decided to amuse myself trying to make them sympathetic to the weird and disturbed setting of T28.

I thought an outhouse would be an excellent objective. Well, perhaps one that isn't as malodorous as this, but we all know: when you go to go - you got to go.

I enjoyed doing up this Catherine Wheel. In order to make it extra creepy (as if the Wheel needs to be more creepy) I added a Hanged Man, similar to what you'd find in a tarot deck. Hmm, will capturing this objective be good luck or bad?

Nothing like a guillotine to give you that reeal close shave. Also really handy for chopping carrots!

An abandoned trench pony. This poor little fella's a bit woebegone, with his heavy burden of victuals and ammunition. Any unit would be happy to have him in their ranks.

And finally, a beloved piano for the troops to gather 'round, singing songs of long lost potatoes and new found parsnips. Looks like it needs a bit of TLC a maybe some tuning.

All of these, except for the guillotine, are from Knucklebones Miniatures.

Now, back to the hobby desk to see what else I can get done before the Challenge concludes.

'Brutes' for Turnip28

Hey There!

During this year's Painting Challenge I wanted to see if I could complete two baseline forces for Turnip28. They're not quite there yet, but I am inching ever closer. I've managed to finish the line infantry ('Fodder'), light infantry ('Chaff'), the light cavalry ('Welps') and the artillery ('Stump Guns' and Bombard). So, for this entry I have a contingent of the heavy infantry, 'The Brutes'.

In game terms, Brutes are both more resilient and somewhat better skilled (less bad?) than their fellow foot sloggers. Not as numerous as the Fodder, being composed of only 6 figures, Brutes still make a valuable storm group to help take down nastier targets.

Like most of my Turnip stuff, these guys are from Knucklebones Miniatures. I quite like the brutal, inelegant, slabbed trench armour they're sporting. It makes them imposingly bulky, and fairly easy to identify on the tabletop. Again, I've laid on heavy with the rust, and festooned them with mushrooms and flora all in the fun of it.

I have another group primed-up and ready to go, but I'm not sure when I'll get them done.

Next up will be the objective markers.

Thanks for dropping in for a look!

Turnip28 'Welp' Light Cavalry

Hey there,

These motley fellows will represent some light cavalry, or in Turnip28 parlance: serve as 'The Welps'. The base models are from Knucklebones Miniatures, with a few alterations involving head-swaps, mirroring, etc.

I quite like these figures as they have sort of a Ralph Bakshi 'Wizards' vibe going on.

This one I did up with a bicorne as his pose reminds me of David's famous painting of Napoleon crossing the Alps. A commanding pose, if I ever saw one.

For the standard bearer, I removed the original musket and replaced it with a brass rod. I then mocked up a flag, freehanding a 'rooty' heraldic device.

I liked the morion helmet on this mook.

...and the bearskin on this fella.

Coming up soon will be the heavies, but I think I'll revisit Barsoom as I've found a few models in my lead pile.

Thanks for dropping in! Have a great week!
