this 55 Gullwing was ordered new by the engineer/designer at Hudson (thank you Doug!)

I find it interesting to see what the people who run car companies buy for their own driving pleasure...

this one was ordered new by Frank Spring, chief engineer for Hudson, who was responsible for penning the Hudson Italia.

And until looking through the photos on this, I didn't know that Mercedes (or Daimler Benz) put belly pans on these

It's been 125 years since one of the auto industry's most celebrated designers filed a patent for a device that would become a central characteristic of the modern car to this very day, a prerequisite for producing a strong power output. The radiator

Wilhelm Maybach's original patent for the cross flow honeycomb radiator design unlocked the potential of gasoline engines.

Designed specifically as a high-performance alternative to earlier tube-style radiators, Maybach filed a patent for the new honeycomb radiator design, which he intended to deliver maximum cooling capacity with a compact design.

Mercedes has come up with something cool.... again! (gotta credit them with the invention of the car, with an internal combustion engine, right?) it's rims, with electrically controlled vanes that actively adjust for aerodynamic drag reduction, or max brake cooling air

the wheels incorporate active aero.

The vanes reposition themselves based on the car’s drive mode.

When aiming for efficiency, they close off to reduce drag.

For performance, they adjust to allow better air flow to the brakes.

Individual generators powered by the wheels provide the electricity to run the tiny actuators mounted in their hubs.
