from filthy to fantastic, the coffee and donut video of the day. This was a 9 hour cleaning job

Things I'm super impressed with,

The hand drill with a round brush used to agitate the dirt in the floor mats.... that is smart!

and this stuff, because like I posted a couple months ago, there is so much stuff sticking to my commuters paint, and I didn't realize until now, that it was rusty iron, which makes sense when compared to what I've seen on my paint. Now I know there is something that directly deals with it

use this for getting pet hair out of seats and carpet

by the way, before buying this stuff yourself, consider what a detailer will charge you to clean your car, versus what all the products will cost. It might be cheaper, and a huge time saver to get the pro to clean your car occassionally

someone has a lot of kids, and no time to clean. They brought this to some car detailer who shared the photos on facebook

all it takes is work and cleaning supplies.

I get a kick out of work changing something drastically for the better, whether it's mowing a lawn, or cleaning, and these before and after cleaning photos remind me of my posts from when I was detailing rental cars:

because a steam cleaner vacuum is a mighty fine tool when you are also using a heavy scrub brush and a liquid soap

Donuts and Coffee video: after 37 years stored in the garage, it was time to pull the old 280 Mercedes out of the garage and clean it up. After all, you're going to have to deal with your parents stuff - you can do it while they are alive, or after they die. Don't wait til after, do it while they can enjoy your company

and that garage was built in 1942, but not used since 1982

David has been asking his 83 year old father (doctor who work in NYC and travels back and forth to NJ daily) to pull his 1969 Mercedes 280 SL out of their old garage and restore it so it can be passed down to his grandchildren.

This is wow amount of work just to clean this car, prior to a restoration, just to surprise and wow the original owner.

Frankly, it's a pleasure to watch an expert at anything at work, and when it's someone cleaning? Even better

I've never seen a car wash have a floor mat cleaning machine yet... but it seems they exist out there somewhere... are they any better than using a pressure washer?

I looked on You Tube, and there are 3 popular machines, JKO, SB, and Rhino

All the videos except this one, are 7 or 8 years old, not high def, really shitty resolution, none show real world testing and cleaning.

I mean 4 years of dirt and grime pounded into a floor mat, that a pressure washer and hand scrubbing won't completely clean out. I mean small white dog hairs in black floor mats.

When I was working for a small company that detailed rental cars, and fixed the windshield cracks, we had a steam vac, it was a monster.. and it was really good at cleaning carpets and upholstery.

Of course, there was hand scrubbing, and shampoo... but that steam vac did great work https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2010/10/wet-and-dry-vac-with-some-cleaning.html

Have you been aggravated by sprinklers leaving hard water spots on your cars windows? Here's a good post on cleaning a car

no, this isn't a paid product placement... I didn't even get a free sample. I just was wondering how to clean my windshield better... and this came up. Not that I wouldn't take some free samples! But no one has offered.

However, when you are at SEMA, stop by the Mothers booth.. they have free samples they are happy for you to take a couple and use them!

Oh, and this reminds me, there is so damn much to learn about cleaning a car. When I was a kid, there were 6 things to know,
1) start at the top and wash down so the dirt doesn't end up where you've already cleaned,
2) use LOTS of water
3) Never let a dirty sponge or cloth touch the car when washing.
4) after you wash the car, wax it with Rain Dance or Blue Coral
5) old people will pay kids to wash their cars if you get a reputation for being careful, and thorough
6) never wash it in the sun, take it into the shade and let that car cool off
7) use cotton towels with big loops to dry

They hadn't invented micro fiber cloths.
They hadn't invented wash mitts
They hadn't invented grit guards
They hadn't invented power sprayers

But now? There are hundreds of "car product" companies, and they all claim to be the best.
They all have "product lines" of a variety of things you didn't know you needed, but will cost over 5 dollars a bottle.

Wet and dry vac with some cleaning detergent can work wonders on your cars carpets, here is an example from a rental car

It amazed me, and I did the cleaning... but if your car's carpets are making you wince, try something like watered down 409 and a scrub brush, then wet vac it dry.
