wow, try and figure this out, the dealership wants 150 dollars for the wiper fluid pump on my commuter, but Amazon sells them for, I shit you not, 80% / one fifth that amount, just 30 dollars

and that is exactly the part number the nice parts guy at the dealership showed me:

just what the hell is up with such a rip off? Some mark up is expected, most sales are 300% of wholesale, but this situation is 500%!!

a Nissan dealership in Vermont was bilked of a half million dollars by it's parts manager. He sold the parts on Facebook!

According to court documents, he carried out the scheme between March 2019 and Sept. 23, 2022, when he was employed by Formula Nissan in Barre as the parts manager and then director of parts and service.

In his job, he ordered parts including vehicle suspension lift kits which cost Formula Nissan between $2,300 to $2,900 apiece.

He advertised the parts for sale on Facebook and sold them to purchasers across the country using Formula Nissan’s Federal Express account to ship the parts to his own customers.

cause of the 3k rpm speed vibration, a 15 dollar u joint. But what a complete drive train exam and repair adventure he went through. That car is going to be set for a LONG time to come

the scoring is obvious, but TWO driveshaft balancing companies didn't catch it, as everyone merely did the wiggle test for slop. It didn't have any.

Yes, this was what EVERYONE told him to check first as the vibration only occured at a certain RPM, when in gear, not in neutral/clutch in. But, while spending weeks trying to find this, a LOT of other parts that needed to be replaced got attention... from the engine, trans, brakes, bearings, steering, etc.

This Mustang is not extremely well sorted out, and my cousin now knows a LOT about his car that he'll instantly know what to do with if it ever needs attention.

Mustang Vibration Diagnostic...
5th gear accelerating getting up to roughly 70mph, car starts to vibrate through the floor and the shifter.

Push the clutch, it goes away, release the clutch it comes back

Continue accelerating 80mph, push in the clutch, vibration stays, release the clutch vibration stays

Let off the gas, decelerate, 65mph, vibration stops, cruise this speed smooth as glass.

1967 mustang, 289, T5, 3.80 diff

Parts replaced
Harmonic balancer, engine mounts, transmission mount, wheel bearings, brake drums turned, axle shafts straight, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, clutch/PP, tunnel trimmed, driveshaft lengthened and balanced at 3k rpm, correct 28oz flywheel

how important is a windage tray?

Kenny Duttweiler was jsut interviewed by HRM, and said:

"I recently dyno’d an LS build with no windage tray just to see, and it was down 64 hp!”

He also warns against using coated parts in engines running on alcohol. “It can eat through some coatings.”

propellers, used to make bars, dens, and livingrooms look better since WW1.

The metal variable pitch prop has a cool history:

This particular propeller was from a Lockheed Vega airplane owned by the Crosley Radio Corporation and flown by Ruth Nichols.
Flying in that airplane in 1931-32, Nichols became the only woman to hold simultaneously the women's international speed, altitude, and distance records for flight. She set the distance record in October 1931 when she flew 1,977 miles between Oakland, California and Louisville, Kentucky. Nichols' records proved the effectiveness of the new controllable-pitch propeller.

Just above that, the dark wooden very old prop;

This propeller is from a Curtiss Model D pusher biplane flown by Eugene B. Ely on January 18, 1911 for the first landing on a ship, the battleship USS Pennsylvania in San Francisco Bay, using the first ever tailhook system.

I just love Shorpy.com... they have enormous photos, with terrific focus and detail, and when they show a photo of a dealership parts dept... you get to check out so MUCH! Semmes Motor Co.: 1925

notice above and below the shelves are number in some cases.

so amny cool things on the shelves... batteries, flashlight bulbs, Whiz something, and Top Dressing to make tires black I suppose, or maybe to clean fan belts... and Ditzler brand paint... Tire patch kids from Michelin?

notice the cash register is rung up to "Ford PT" I wonder why... and what are the bottles on the shelf behind it?

from flower vases to jacks... and a lot of spools of ignition wire?  And and Harve Stabilizers? Are those shock absorbers?

Above, the Weed brand tire chains, I believe I posted those before, and the Gabriel Snubbers... which I think are the friction shocks

Above is an advertisement for Watson stabilizers... What shock absorbers were called in the friction shock days I think
