Faves of the Faves - March/April 2019: The Decibels, Smile from Tokyo, More Kicks, An Horse, David Woodard, The Popravinas, R. Stevie Moore, The Well Wishers, The Figgs, The Bevis Frond, Lucille Furs, The Cosmic Raspberry Morning, The Good Water, The Smallgoods, Ride, Violet, Flying Fish Cove, L7, Rascalton, Gaspar Sanz, Disq, Th Da Freak, Ex Hex, More Kicks, Blue Jeans, ViVii, Dressy Bessy, Abbie Ozard

Behold and behear our very favorite powerpop, indiepop, janglepop, psychpop, and other hooky melodic pop songs discovered during the third and fourth months of 2019. Please keep in mind (or, like, totally ignore the fact) that some of these songs predate the current year, even going back as far as 2015 and 2016, for Pete's sake. We just didn't find them until the months indicated. Most, though, are recent releases. If you'd like to see the two monthly lists from which these are curated, click here and here. As always, we do hope you'll find some songs to like or love.

Faves of the Faves - January/February 2019: I Was a King, The Reverberations, Palmyra Delran, Potty Mouth, The Cowboys, Herzog, The Maureens, Business of Dreams, Crocodiles, Slush, Ex Hex, The Coathangers, Cherry Glazerr, the dates, The Boys With The Perpetual Nervousness, the SUCK, Pink Mexico, Guided By Voices, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Which Wave, Sugarspun, Swervedriver, Palehound

Below are the powerpop, indiepop, janglepop, psychpop, and other hooky melodic pop songs we discovered and most liked during the first two months of this year. As we've been posting lots of freebies lately, we want to point out that these are not freebies. They are, however, very much worth buying, which we've personally done whenever possible. We'll be posting more freebie songs From The Archives in the near future. We hope you find lots of songs here to like or love. If you'd like to see the full January and February playlists, click here and here. Two more things: we recently posted our Faves of the Faves for November/December 2018, in case you'd like to check them out. The song below identified as being by Kim Shattuck was originally identified when we found it as being by Palmyra Delran. Mercy bocooo.

Faves of the Faves - November/December 2018: the dates, Cupid's Carnival, Wyatt Blair, The Late Show, The Bangles, The Kryng, The Money War, The Higher State, Firefly, Chemtrails, Calva Louise, Steel Tees, Mothboxer, Johnny Mafia, Hot Nun, Jeremy & The Harlequins, White Noise, Neighborhood Brats, Traffik Island, When Young, Hatchie, Lucia

Back in December we got so immersed in putting together our 2018 Powerpopulist Faves post that we didn't post a Faves of the Faves playlist for November and December. No great harm's been done, though, because A) quite a few of the songs appeared in that 2018 list and B) this blog is probably not capable of doing great harm. So here it is, and we hope you find lots of songs to like or love. Oh, and below the Playmoss widget are several songs we loved that wouldn't play in the widget. If you'd like to see the full playlists for November and December, click here and here.

2018 Powerpopulist Faves

Good moves from Bad Moves - and lots of others.

Behold and behear our very favorite powerpop, janglepop, indiepop, psychpop, and whateverpop songs from 2018. We decided to list these alpha songs in alpha order, with one exception: our favorite song of the year, Bad Moves' "Cool Generator," is at the top of the list. All the "The" bands' songs are down in the "T" range. As sometimes happens, Playmoss wouldn't accomodate several songs, so we've put them in their own widgets under the Playmoss widget. Songs Playmoss wouldn't identify by Artist Name and Songname are listed below the widget. Sometimes Playmoss balks at playing songs from Bandcamp, so if this happens, just click on the Bandcamp play arrow, and things should work out fine.

#2 - Ama - Love Demons
17 - Dot Dash - TV - Radio
19 - The Left Outsides - Clothed in Ivy Obscured by Dust
33 - J.F.K - Feel It Again
40 - K7s - Go Away
41 - K7s - It's The CIA
42 - K7s - Listen to My Heart
50 - Michael Simmons - No More Girls
59 - Rabbit Holes - We've Got Drugs, We've Got the Power
61 - Sauropod - Ripping
73 - Swingin' Utters - Human Potential
87 - The Faux Derix - Little Annie Meggs
98 - The Orange Kyte - Anti-Establishment Haircut
122 - Van Go - Live Through This

For you of the Spotify persuasion, we're also posting a widget for that site. Not all of the songs available at Playmoss were also available at Spotify, but most were. Spotify put the songs in a slightly different alphabetical arrangement, but this shouldn't cause many problems.

It's been a fun year musically, and we hope you find lots of songs you already like and some that might be new to you. As happened last year, we'll probably find some goodies we overlooked once some of our favorite music experts post their fave lists, so we'll be updating accordingly. (Truth to tell, we've already been doing that, so shhhhhh.) Please feel free to give feedback and make further suggestions of your own faves in Comments.

Happy New Year and here's to continued musical discovery.

Faves of the Faves - July/August 2018: Dot Dash, The Speedways, Tired All The Time, Last Great Dreamers, Lisa Mychols, Summer Magic, The Chills, The Laissez Fairs, Ty Segall & White Fence, Sauropod, JEPH, Tony Molina, Straight Arrows, Shy Boys, Bad Moves, Baits, The Wit, Sonic Blume, Waves of Dread, The Feens, Ghosts/Signals

Below are our very favorite songfinds of powerpop, indiepop, janglepop, psychpop, and otherpop during the months of July and August. Playmoss continues to have "issues" with songs from Bandcamp, so we've put all of those at the bottom of the widget. Da 'Moss won't take SoundCloud at all, so we've put several of those in widgets at bottom of the post. The entire July 2018 and August 2018 playlists are on other pages at Playmoss. (Clicky clicky.)

We do hope you find some songs to like or love. As of post-time, the very first song in the Playmoss widget, Dot Dash's "Unfair Weather," is available for free download at Bandcamp. That Ghosts/Signals song is available for free download at SoundCloud. (Click the down arrow in the widget.)

As sometimes happens, Playmoss didn't provide all the info for a couple of songs, so here it is.

#2 - Dot Dash - TV - Radio
#11 - Sauropod - Ripping

Phwewwww, just in time do we post our 24 very favorite finds of powerpop, janglepop, psychpop, and otherpop from last month. In time for what? Good q.

You'll find the full list of April 2018 finds over at Playmoss, along with lots of other playlists of songs we love. Occasionally the Playmoss widget balks at playing a song, especially if it's imported from Bandcamp. If this happens, just click the Play arrow and things should groove. As always, we do hope you, too, find music to like or love.

And here's a song we loved that Playmoss would not accomodate.

Faves of the Faves - March 2018: Bromide, Michael Simmons, Wyatt Blair, The Well Wishers, Bad Moves, Be Like Pablo, K7s, The Lazy Lies, GRDNS, The Orange Kyte, Black Lizard, The Kumari, Parliamo, ta toy boy, Starman Jr., Boys Forever, Jo Passed, The Love-Birds, Ama, Nick Eng, Jack Perrett, The Color Waves

Posted below are our very favorite powerpop, indiepop, janglepop, psychpop, whateverpop songs found during the month of March. For some reason, Playmoss didn't digest all the information about some of the songs, so we're providing it just above the widget. If either of the two Bandcamp songs don't immediately play, click the play arrow to activate. Click if you'd like to hear the full March 2018 playlist at Playmoss. We do hope you'll find some songs to like.

Faves of the Faves - January 2018: On and Ons, Eyelids, Emperor Penguin, Ups and Downs, Well Wishers, Calva Louise, Lucille Furs, Maharajas, Strangers In A Strange Land, Serpent Power, Jay Som, Hurry, Bee Bee Sea, Red Cities, Honeyrude, American Darlings, Moniker, Kindling, Coywolf, Trevor and The Joneses, Peyote Coyote, Flower Graves, Rotten Mangos, Olden Yolk, Ty Segall, Overlord, Waking Hours, Triptides, Crazy Squeeze

Below is the playlist of our very favorite songs discovered during the first month of 2018. It was a rich month indeed, partly because of new songs released but also because of songs encountered on various end-of-year lists by bloggers and aficionados whose tastes we admire. Sure, we'd posted our own 2017 Powerpopulist Faves playlist but found a number of songs elsewhere we had either overlooked or not attended to closely enough.

So thanks to Absolute Powerpop, Power Popaholic, I Don't Hear A Single, Ice Cream Man Powerpop And MorePowerpopnews, Jeff Shelton, David Bash, John Borack, Pablo Ferrayra, and Jack Rabid/Big Takeover for helping us supplement the 119 songs on our list and for helping make January a most merry musical month.  (As usual, this is not a ranking but more of a discovery-based chronology.)

Song #6 is by Calva Louise.

Faves of the Faves - November/December 2017: First Base, Peyote Coyote, The Galileo 7, The Dayoffs, The Keep Left Signs, Paul Messis, The Successful Failures, Salad Boys, Latvian Radio, Caddy, Third of Never, FUR, Soda Fountain Rag, Susan

We were just about to post our Faves of the Faves for January 2018 when to our (feigned) horror we realized we hadn't yet A) made one for November/December 2017 or B) published one for November/December 2017. There were all kinds of reasons, mostly technical, why we hadn't done so but they are of no interest whatever, not even to us. So here's the playlist. Click and listen away! We hope you find music to like. (By the way, this is not a ranking but more of a discovery-based chronology.)

Faves of the Faves - October 2017: The Galileo 7, Guided by Voices, Purple Wizard, Cotton Mather, This Blinding Light, Marble Party, Linn Koch-Emmery, Tristen, Arvidson & the Butterflies, The Black Heart Death Cult, The Brixton Riot, Black Nite Crash, The Prissteens, Acid Baby Jesus, Luminous Fins, Dream Phases, DMA's

Here are our very favorite songs dropped into our October 2017 playlist over at Playmoss. We love Playmoss but they've been undergoing adjustments that have thrown us off our game. (It don't take much, seeing as how our "game" is so very Minor League and all.)

Anyway, Playmoss no longer accepts songs from SoundCloud and balks at playing songs from Bandcamp. We're therefore posting first the Playmoss widget with the songs it would play and below that widgets for other songs Playmoss balked at playing. Clear? Sorry.

BTW, we've been corresponding with Playmoss about all of this and they've been frightfully nice in response. A couple of Mossers actually checked out some of our playlists and added some songs to their own. Now if that's not nice, what the hootie is?

Note: Name-Your-Price Download

This next one is a video (duh) but for some reason Playmoss balked at playing it.

Faves of the Faves - September 2017: The Chemistry Set, Jennifer, Black Sonic Revolver, Partner, Beaches, Alvvays, The Persian Leaps, The Reverberations, L7, et. al. . . .

Wow, somehow or other we're publishing September's Faves of the Faves playlist only four days into October. As before, we'll mention that these are some of our favorite songs discovered during that month and not necessarily songs released therein.

Once again Playmoss hasn't alvvays seen fit to give the artist's name for certain songs, so we're providing this info when needed. We do hope you find some songs to like. To explore a song or artist further, click the logo at the end of a song's title. If you'd like to see the entire 52-song September 2017 playlist, click here.

Also, for you of a more powerpop persuasion, we started a little project of restoring a Powerpop playlist we had going at the late great Songdrop site. So far we've restored around 200 songs and are continuing to add to it as we have time. Click here to see and hear.

Update - 21oct17 - Playmoss has been having "issues" playing Bandcamp and SoundCloud songs of late. We've been in communication with them, and they're working on it. We've replaced a bunch of BC & SC songs with YouTube versions when possible and moved all the unreplaceable ones down to the bottom of the playlist. When you get to them, you'll probably have to click the Play arrow. This is also happening in the Playmoss widgets in the upper-right of the page, but those lists are too long to mess with. We're sorry about this. Hopefully someday all will be well. First World Problem, so we'll probably survive.

#1 - Baker Island - Write Home
12 - Party Hardly - Mindchanger
13 - Wyatt Blair - Jesse's On Fire Again
18 - Hearty Har - Creation Frustration

Faves of the Faves - August & July 2017: Partner, Derrick Anderson, Propeller, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Shake Some Action, Alvvays, Beaches, Rainer Maria, The Orielles, The Stevens, Cliff Hillis, The Tazers, Invaderband, The Singles, we.the.pigs, The Beginner's Mynd, etc., etc., etc.

As previously noted, we've been keeping monthly playlists of songs we like as we find them and then curating out (or in) our very favorites each month. Below are playlists of what we most liked in August and July of this year. If you want to see the entire playlists for the two months, click the following: August 2017 and July 2017.

We'll point out again that while most of the songs are new-to-newish, the lists are based on the month in which we first heard the songs and not necessarily when the songs were first released. No biggie, but we thought you cutting edgers might want to know this before you go bragging to all your in-the-know buds.

We hope you find some songs you like. If you do, click the logo at the end of each song's line for purchase and/or further exploration. As occasionally happens with our beloved Playmoss, sometimes artists don't get identified, so we're taking care of that below each widget. The songs in each playlist are listed in the order in which we found them, from beginning to end of the month.

#5 - Frankie and the Witch Fingers - Learnings Of The Light
#14 - Free Machines - White Cream
#15 - KARMS - We Always Lose

#4 - The Orielles - I Only Bought It For The Bottle
#5 - Umm - I'm In Love
#7 - Cliff Hillis - Hey Pretty Face
#9 - The Walker Brigade - Voodoo Doll
#21 - The Singles - Voodoo

Faves of the Faves - June & May 2017: Superchunk, Wellingtons, Johnny Kills, Alvvays, Triptides, Ride, Wesley Fuller, Warm Soda, Primitives, Well Wishers, Violet Swells, Bopp, Pinact, etc., etc., etc. . . .

Image result for linn koch-emery - forever sounds

In addition to the Currents 2 Playlist in the upper right-hand corner of this page, we've also been keeping monthly playlists at Playmoss since early this year. For the past several months we've been going through them at the end of each month and curating our very favorites for each month. Below are our Faves of the Faves playlists for June and May of this year. You can see the full lists for each month by clicking the following: June 2017 & May 2017.

As sometimes happens with Playmoss, some of the artists are not identified in the widgets, so we've done so further below. The songs in each playlist are listed in the order we found them each month. We hope you find lots to like or love, 'cause we sure did.

#20 - Black Sonic Revolver - So Many Ways

April 2017 Faves of the Faves Playlist

Sweet indeed, for April showered us with a nourishing bounty of musical discovery. But, hey, enough poetry, wot?

We added 81 mostly new-to-us titles to our Playmoss April 2017 playlist and from that list have widgeted 31 of our very favorites below. We've thought about launching a radio show to share our discoveries but find these Playmoss playlists preferable for several reasons: A) You don't have to hear our voice. B) It's easy for you to drop the needle from song to song, skipping ahead should you - Fod gorbid - not be enjoying a song. C) You seldom need to wonder which artist or song you're listening to. D) Other reasons we don't care to mention.

We indicated you need not be in doubt as to Artist or Songtitle, but sometimes Playmoss does not display one or more of those useful pieces of information. In the widget below, that applies to the following:

#3 - So Many Wizards - Just Poison
#5 - jellyskin - Eater
#10 - Sugarmen - SOLD
#31 - Matthew Sweet - Trick

And sometimes Playmoss simply refuses to ingest a song at all. This month a hideous injustice might have been done when "Mossy" refused to display any of the songs off of Peachfuzz's fabulous Pop Of The World LP. Fortunately, we posted that free and legally downloadable LP here, along with some other Peachfuzzes "Mossy" wouldn't accept. We love Playmoss very much, but sometimes . . . sheesh.

Finally, we might mention that we've been creating more Playlists you might like to check out, particularly the one called "Powerpop - From Dec2016 ---->." You can check out our entire Powerpopulist Playmoss Playlist Collection here

Now, where were we? Oh, yeah, April 2017 Faves of the Faves.
