Fallout Hobbies - Relictors Decals

Hello all, thanks for dropping by. I have gone and done it, eventually getting some actual Relictor decals - I said I wouldn't, but these looked great and a slow burn, easy to do project is nice to have the option to do - I just don't want to think of how many Relictors I may need to change over to the new design.

From the very origin of the blog, I have Relictors - I now have a LOT of Relictors, all for simplicity and repeatability I used the standard white skull decals supplied with Space Marine kits and Imperial Guard Vehicle sets. These have served me well, but now companies like Fallout Hobbies and Pop Goes the Monkey are producing quality alternatives to the Chapters Games Workshop do not support.
Here is my Thunderhammer Terminator squad, first painted in March 2009, still looking great.
And sporting the new decals from Fallout Hobbies. I did minimal preparation and didn't even snip the decal to go over the curved shoulder plate - I didn't even trim the excess film to near the Skull - but two coats of Microsol was sufficient to achieve a near painted on look. A lot thinner than the GW carrier film - so happy with that, I will trim the film nearer the pattern on the next set of pads, but I wanted to test for these.

Great job Fallout Hobbies! Now for the slow slog of changing 50 vehicles and 300 marines...

Cheers, Siph

Legio Crucius - Titan Maniple and Warlord - WIP #7 - Nearly There

Hello one and All,

The Warlord project is near completion, with a final highlight for the weapons and the shields to do before the war engine is done. I've started added decals to the Warlord, as well as to some of my other Titans that needed these to finish.

Warlord

The LED's have been added to 'Hell's Daughter' - I've opted for different coloured lights for the head, using 1mm and 2mm lights to fit the 'eye sockets'. The searchlights have had 3mm LED's added which are drilled through into the torso for the power supply. Each light has its own power.
How to make a Warlord look small....
I've added a combination of custom decals and FW ones. One of the icons every Titan has is the Titan Owners Club logo, to show the Titan is registered.
I've also added some symbols from various FW kits, seals, skulls etc. all to add further details to the Warlord.
Warhound

'Black Strider'  has finally had decals added. The Crucius symbol was added to a part that I had added a white circle to. The custom decals are clear, so adding them over a black background is a definite no-no.
Warbringer Nemesis

'Mons Igneus' has also had symbols added. The right heraldic shield I am going to build an image to add here.
Really happy with how these Titans are coming together.

Warlord Hell's Daughter will Walk at the next Titan Owners Club UK event, where she will be battling alongside 80 other Titans! Remember to register your own Titans at Titan Owners Club, and if you want some cool Titan Owners Club merchandise we even now have a Spreadshirt Shop, any profits go to buying Titan sized terrain for future Walks :)

Cheers. Lord Halfpenny.

Legio Astorum - Forge World Warlord Titan Build - WIP #26 - Custom TitanOwnersClub Decal

Hi Titanseers, my bestie Lord Halfpenny printed some custom decals of the glorious Titan Owners Club logo of which we are both registered owners and Admin Staff, and the Warlord Dominus Victoria is No.104. I wanted to acknowledge my kinship with these great hobbyists by flying my colours proudly on the armour. I thought I'd share the method for applying your own decals - you can print your own design on a printer using decal paper.

The link to the whole Titan Construction process can be found HERE.

Above you can see the decal cut out from the sheet, carefully traced around the edges - the cut-out is then used as a stencil to apply the white background the decal needs to show the colours - only professional decals have a white opaque layer onto which they print the colours. Without this base coat the underlying  blue would dull down everything.
The over-spray was carefully blocked out, neatening up the edges of the decal position.
The decal was then applied, noting the small amounts of white showing around the edges and in the nooks and crannies.
When dry and dabbed down, the whole decal and surrounding area was 'Ardcoat gloss varnished for protection. I feathered the 'Ardcoat out at the edges so no visible line will be present once the shine is knocked back with Matt Spray.
And the finished decal, the white edges have been painted blue, the small areas of white in the crevasses (top of 'T' and inside edge of Banner) and then the whole area has been sprayed with two coats of Army Painter Matt Varnish Spray. A fine addition to the Titan's colours, and when completed the whole titan will be sealed with some Halfords Lacquer spray seal.
A quick update, I am plodding away with the remaining pieces, I can see the finish line now, just a month and one week to go to the Walk of Dominus Victoria's debut!

Dominus Victoria will Walk at the next Titan Owners Club UK event, where she will be battling alongside 80 (yes 80!!) other Forge World Titans! I will be sure to post lots of photos.  Remember to register your own Titans at Titan Owners Club, and if you want some cool Titan Owners Club merchandise they even now have a Spreadshirt Shop, all profits go to buying Titan sized terrain :)

Cheers, Princeps Siph :)

Reaver Titan - make your own Decals

Hello!

I think this might be the last Reaver WIP post before the big reveal, finished post.

As you might have seen, I've painted my titan in the colours of the Legio Crucius. Unfortunately there are no Decal sheets for the legio - so I opted to make my own!

Using some Lazertran Inkjet Decal sheets, I was able to print out my own designs for the titan.

As you might have seen last week, I posted a WIP post about how I printed the symbols to be turned into Decals onto paper first to test fit size etc.
https://weemen.blogspot.com/2018/09/reaver-titan-transfer-wip.html

From here I then printed them onto the Decal sheet, and then left them to dry for 30 minutes.

I then prepared the Decals, cropped and trimmed and then added to warm water. The Decals were really easy to apply to the model. And here are the results so far..

The biggest issue with these transfers is the 'white border' you get around the Decal. I ended up trying various techniques with ardcoat and then mirco set to try to remove this. In the end I opted initially for paint on the scroll work on the carapace, with a wash and highlight- this acted nicely as the text then gets a slight 'worn look' about it. The knee pad scroll I simply used Agrax over it- and it worked really well!

Thanks for looking! LH

Reaver Titan - Transfer WIP

Hi one and all,

To complete the Reaver I've decided to try to produce my own transfers. Currently there are no Decal sheets produced by GW, thus I opted to try something new.

I have purchased some water slide decal sheet paper, and will be trying this out over the weekend.

However I decided to print out some 'transfers' to test the size and fit, as well as location. I will be printing off the Legio Crucicus symbol with various sizes to go on the carapace, knee pad and on the weapons. I will also be adding the Titan Owners Club heraldry to the model, which will also have the date for any Titan Walk events the Reaver attends- as well as kill marks.

I will also try to print out scroll work text for the scroll on the Knee pad and top carapace.

The issue with these transfers is that the printer will not print 'white' so I will have to make sure any white needed will be applied to the model prior to adding the decal.

Thanks for Looking! LH

A little Help?

Hi one and All,

I just thought I'd message out to see if anybody knows, or has done, or has experience in doing decals on models where currently there aren't decals for?

I am looking at options for the Legio Crucicus symbol for my Reaver, however FW don't make them, thus I'm left with either painting it freehand- which wouldn't look great.. or trying to find an options to make my own..

Has anybody got experience with this? what have you done if there wasn't a transfer available for something you wanted?

Cheers in Advance! LH

Weemen will be attending Games Day 2018 - (cough)Warhammerfest, I'm sure there will be loads of pictures!
