Relictors Space Marine 4th Company Devastators Squad w/ Grav Cannons

Hello Good Readers, hope you are well. Here is my latest offering, I got these Devastators with Grav Cannons and Grav Amps ready for the massive battle we had at Warhammer World a few weeks ago, with the exception of a few details and the heads, so hot on their success in Imperial Knight slaying, I finished them.
The Sergeant received his Combi-Grav, so with the Grav Cannons and Grav Amps for re-roll, this squad puts out 23 grav shots if stationary (or Relentless in an Skyhammer Annihilation Force) with a damage re-roll of 20 of those for getting those glancing Sixes! Almost guaranteed to kill a Landraider or Termie Squad - but at a cost point premium, this squad costs more than those said targets when fully kitted out. But, in that Skyhammer, this is a great Alpha Strike, otherwise a points sink. When I am not using the Skyhammer, I'll farm out the Grav Cannon marines to various Tactical Squads in games.
Here's the Sergeant, I like the 4th Company green trims to the pauldrons, a change from the majority of my Relictors 5th Company black trimmed black pads, just seen that I missed the Sergeant's gun casing Aquila, doh, have to quickly fix that.
I added two stripes to the Chainsword and a green 4th Company Knee Pad for a touch of colour as the accent colour I usually use on the weapon casings in bone is missing from these Devastators - I was up against the time pressures of getting them ready for Warhammer World, so the bone went - but I like the different scheme - marks them different from the mass of 5th Company marines.

Right, next up for the Relictors painting pile - Bikes, maybe something rather shooty which has been languishing in the closet of doom for years... and a lot more Devastators - my aim is for another Grav Cannon 5-man Squad for an effective Skyhammer Annihilation Force alpha strike, plus I want a squad of 4 Heavy Bolters for the rule of cool - they look awesome - so much dakka. And then maybe some Lascannons, Multi-Meltas... the Devastator box comes with more weapons than you can use, so I had to buy a Tactical Squad just to use the bodies as Devastators!

Thanks for reading.

Relictors Space Marine Bike Squad #2 w/ Grav Guns

Welcome Readers, thanks for dropping by. Well, after all the excitement of Warhammerfest and Warhammer World, where the WeeMen had a great time on Saturday and Warhammer World on the Sunday, see previous posts, I loved the way my bikes were giving Lord Halfpenny's TEN Knights the run around, if not being a little ineffective - but choose your enemies wisely and bikes are great. Hot on the heels of my full five man Grav Gun Bike Squad, I finished off another three bikes to make another Grav Gun Squad. I will eventually add another two plain bikers, as ablative wounds for the squad, but I am yet to buy them.
The Sergeant was made from a Dark Vengeance bike like the Plasma Gun Squad and the fairings match the other squads Sergeants. I like making the veteran Sergeants look different from the other bikes. The Sergeant also has a Forge World Destroyer Squad helmet to mark him out as a Veteran. The left-handed Grav Gun required a minor conversion but removing the affixed hand and adding a left hand from the Devastators box set and an arm from the bits box.
The rear totem feathers were simply painted Hawk Turquoise with Nuln Oil wash and a fine dry brush again with Hawk Turquoise to bring the edges back to a brighter colour, quite similar to Dave Weston's Ravenwing Bikes at 40K Addict Blog. I always drill by exhausts as well as Bolter barrels for a touch of realism. For the Ravenwing Bike, I used a plain bikers torso and a Combi-Grav from the Sternguard set.

Thanks for dropping in. Cheers, Siph.

Relictors Space Marine Bike Squad w/ Grav Guns

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping by. Here is my latest addition to the Relictors huge force, a handy Grav Weapon armed Bike Squad, these will complement the Melta Gun armed squad and the Plasma Gun armed squad.
Here are the three special weapon armed bikes, the Grav Guns on the Marines and a Combi-Grav for the Sergeant.
The Sergeant was made using a Ravenwing fairing, and Ravenwing legs, a MK VIII torso and a landspeeder pilot bare head. The aerial is from the Scout Bikes.
I think the Sergeant bikes with Fairings make them stand out from the rest of the squad members, deserving of his veteran status. I have a few other bikes on the production line, another couple of Grav Gun Squads and a few Characters, Libby, Chaplain and Captain/Chapter Master on a jet bike. With these characters, the squads can become Troop choices.

Cheers for dropping in, thanks for reading. See you at Warhammerfest if you are going!

Titan Base, Bikes, Veterans and Tau Stealth Suits - WIP - Hobby Butterfly

Hi, I suffer Hobby Butterfly Syndrome... from my New Year, New Army post in January I kind of got distracted with Warlord Titan building, updating Ad Mech and now Relictors bikes - but I made some progress... honest.
I really painted up the drone to see what scheme I should use with them, and happy to continue with the scheme, the rest of the squad (plus another two other squads and the Ghostkeel) should get underway after I have finished some more Relictor bikes and paid the Warlord some more attention. But I will get there... honest.
Here is my Dachshund helping me do some of the Relictor Bikes, some of which were finished Melta Squad and Plasma Squad. I still have a number of bikes on the desk WIP...
A shot of the desk, working on Captain Mordaci Blaylock and Sternguard, two Veterans for the long awaited Command Squad, all from the Betrayal at Calth miniatures and some Boarding Shields from FW. Also Grav Bikes and Stealth Suits and a Skitarii Vanguard to test the scheme.
I also did a little carpentry making the base for the Warlord Titan construction...

Does anyone else suffer from HBS... Hobby Butterfly Syndrome?   ;)

Relictors 4th Company Tactical Squad - New Plastics

Well, I've had a lot of Tactical Marines done and didn't need anymore, however the new GW Tactical Squad is the only place to get the greatly sought after Grav Weapons, so, with a stroke of genius, here is the first member of a 4th Company Squad... I've already got all 6x 5th Company Tactical Squads painted up.  He can be identified as 4th Company by the green trim of the Shoulder Pauldrons - 5th Company to date all have Black trims.
The real reason to post is to have a quick look at the new plastics - no doubt at all that the newer GW plastics are a lot more crisp and sharp and great when compared to the old - look at the above legs - they are old tactical marines, the top half ofthe figure is newer... crisper and sharper. Forget the tardiness of the leg paintjob, the newer plastics are superior. There is a lot of disappointment online that they were released the same, except additional Grav Weapons etc. John at 40K Hobby Blog mentioned it too 'here', but I agree with him. It's a good thing.
And for the Grav Weapons and this firing pose 'up on aim' alone it is a good thing to go buy the new GW Tactical Squad! I love the new Grav Weapon, the Combi Grav abd the fact that the hands are separate to the wrists. My painting is also improved ;) And I added the '4' to the knee pad!  Well, GW gets some stick - but the new release of a Tactical Squad to replace the old Tactical sprue is worth it in my view, the older moulds were getting worn and losing the details, plus the new injection magic they must have makes the newer models crisp. I am a fanboi, but the results show it was worth a new release.

Relictors Centurion Devastator Squad Finished

Finally I have finished the other squad members of the Relictors Centurion Devastator Squad. These models have grown on me quite a bit and were fun, although took ages, to paint. They are packed with details and an part constructed methodology I think is best. I constructed the body, legs and arms as one piece, guns, pipes, head, both sets of shoulder guards, groin armour and pistons separately.

I've also added an Aquila above the Sergeant's head to give him some more height when compared to the other two. That was not there in the last post about him. I think they look good together, somewhat better than I was expecting - they don't scream 'teletubbie' Marines to me anymore!
Here is the two remaining troopers in all their freshly painted glory. I think I did a good job on the Grav-Amp lens, again these are packed with detail, I was even tempted to use some of the spare honour markings in the box to cover the one remaining knee armour on the right-hand marine! But, instead, I left at least one armour plate bare.
Thanks for stopping by. Right, where is that Stalker tank... should only take as long as one of those did!?

Relictors Devastator Centurion Sergeant

Hello avid readers, thanks for stopping by. Here is my latest offering and addition to the ever growing Relictors Battle Company! I know I should just get on with the remaining Command Squad and be done, but new rules, new models and new Codex means more new shiny bits of kit for the armoury!
This Sergeant is armed with the Grav Amp seen here, and a rather pleasing lens effect I thought.
...And a very much sought after Grav Cannon. I tried to do something different with the muzzle - bronze effect so it stands out but no charcoal burnt effect as it is a gravity enhancing weapon, not a chemical 'burn' type, this will also mean that the various Grav type weapons amongst the line troops - Grav Gun and Combi-Grav Bolters and Pistols will be easily distinguishable from the other boltgun, pistol or special weapons I already had. The green energy drum-thingy will also help a lot too. My plasma guns have a blue energy.
I chose to simply decorate the shoulder pad with the Devastator marking as well as front and back Relictor skulls, and left the left-pauldron blank with the exception of the Centurion badge - done in Boltgun Metal as the Terminator Crux on my Termies is also metallic.
And finally, the chest mounted Missile Launcher, with yellow missiles to tie in with my Whirlwind and Deathwind Missile Pod missiles, to be common across the army. The skull-like head is from Anvil Industries and is painted similar to one of my Assault Marine Squads with similar grimacing heads. And the pose of this centurion is the most static, I managed to get some movement out of the remaining squad members, but the Sergeant can stand still and direct their fire with the pointing gesture nicely.
Here is a size comparison of normal Power Armour, Terminator Armour, Centurion Exo-Armour and a Dreadnought. Great stuff, can't think why GW didn't have one of these shots in the WD? Nevermind, thanks for reading, I am progressing with the rest of the Squad, and a Stalker AA Tank...

Battle Report- Ultramarines Vs Iron Warriors- picture heavy

Hi all,

This past weekend saw the Ultramarines of Lord Halfpenny, clash with the Iron Warriors of the6thdegree. This was a battle of the ages- literary, this was the first 1 on 1 we've had since we were teenagers (only a few years then?- LH) The Battle was 2500 points, over my battle board- the battle also saw the use of the new Space Marine codex, along with a few 'additions' (Sorry they are the 'grey marines- didn't have time to paint them.. LH)

The battle lines were set, the Ultramarines, lead by Marneus Calgar including new additions in the form of centurions and a hunter tank, taking on Abbadon and his chaos horde. the6thdegree used his force from BW, with some additional units to make the points up.

Mission
  • single objective in the centre of the board
  • Kill points
  • Line Breaker / First Blood / Slay the Warlord
Iron Warriors Deployment
  • Iron Warriors deploy first, utilising the agis defence line to fortify their position
  • oblitorators take up firing positions in the ruins
  • Hellbrutes and Forgefiend take up aggressive positioning to either go for the flank or centre of the board
  • Helldrake in reserve
 Ultramarine Deployment
  • Hunter deployed behind ruins
  • Calgar and Assault Terminators in Land Raider Redeemer- positioned to go for the centre of the board
  • Centurions deployed to have good coverage of the board, with a view to move them towards the objective with support from tactical squad

Turn 1
Iron Warriors
  • Obilitorators target the contemptor, taking a hull point
  • Forgefiend kills 3 marines
  • Vindicator finishes off the contemptor in a fiery blast
Ultramarines
  • Sternguard arrive via drop pod assault
  • Centurions open fire, causing 24! wounds killing 5 terminators and Abbadon with Grav fire
  • Sternguard combat squads open fire at both the forgefiend and Vindicator- damaged saved with daemonic saves
  • Razorback destroys a weapon of the forgefiend
Turn 2
Iron Warriors
  • Helldrake arrives, killing 3 space marines via shooting and wounding a centurion via vector strike
  • the havoc launcher on a rhino wounds another centurion
  • Hellbrude (dakka) shot the Land Raider- destroying Calgar's transport- a terminator is killed in the wreckage
  • Obilitarators destroy the razorback with lascannon fire
  • Several sternguard are killed with CSM fire
Ultramarines
  • Centurions destroy the helldrakes weapon with grav fire
  • Terminiators charge into the rhino- destroying it in combat
  • Marneus Calgar destroys the forgefiend in combat- however he is left open to incoming fire
Turn 3
Iron Warriors
  • havoc launcher causes further wounds on the centurions- killing one, and wounds another
  • Calgar is first wounded by the IW marines encircling him, then killed via obliterator plasma fire
  • remaining Sternguard are killed in combat
  • centurions reduced to 3 in number with weight of sustained fire
Ultramarines
  • Stormtalon arrives, killing several CSM with assault cannons
  • Centurions kill another CSM with Grav fire
  • Terminators kill 4 CSM in close combat
Turn 4
Iron Warriors
  • Hellbrute charges Centurions killing 1- centurions fall back and are destroyed
  • CSM vs Terminator close combat sees losses on both sides- the chaos champion wins his challenge- and has the boon of becoming a chaos spawn! (I blame fateweaver who was watching the game..)
Ultramarines
  • Helldrakke Finally downed by the Hunter fire
  • Hellbrute is charged by tactical squad and is reduced to 1 hull point thanks to a power fist
Turn 5
Iron Warriors
  • CSM move forward to claim the centre of the board
  • Razorback is blown to pieces via fire from the havocs
  • spawn of chaos finishes of the last terminator in close combat
Ultramarines
  • Power fisted SM destroys the Hellbrute in close combat
  • storm talon kills a couple of CSM with assault cannon fire
Turn 6
Iron Warriors
  • Stormtalon is  finally brought down
  • Move in to contest the objective
Ultramarines
  • marines in the centre of the board open fire- but unable to wound any CSM
the game ends- as the dust settles, we calculate the kill points,
Iron Warriors 12 - Ultramarines 10-  a narrow win to the6thdegree!!!
we had rolled for a 7th turn, and we should of played on- however time was against us- I think if we had continued the Iron Warriors would of destroyed my force, leaving only the hunter left.
My unit of the game has to be the centurions- I couldn't believe how easily they disseminated Abbadon and his terminator body guards- 6 of them is overkill, and is very high priced.

A few moments of magic- firstly the CSM winning his challenge, only to be turned onto a spawn of chaos.. secondly seeing both Abbadon and Calgar getting blown to pieces- showing that it doesn't matter if you are an eternal warrior- weight of fire will bring them down..
