Crochet - The Battle cdr

If you liked the Bandril posts, Crochet is the solo project of Rob Galpin, one half of Bandril. Here he continues the fuzzed out synth contamination of ears, going to noisier and denser territories than Bandril that are also much darker. Weird toxic psychedelic noise is the name of the game, with influences from early Maurizio Bianchi, but that also hint at Lee Stokoe's later industrial synth noise project Vampyres, as well as Depletion, the solo vehicle of Martyn Reid, second member of Vampyres. 2010 self-released cdr.

Bandril ‎– Bandril Meets Your Mother cdr

Calming synth psychedelic melancholy; it might have even been something from Troum or Coil's late 1990s output. Surely you wouldn't expect that from black drone sorcerer Stokoe. Cdr on Gloop CDR!

Bandril - Two Mucle tape

This time the improvisations are based on some plucked string instrument and take a more rock-ish turn, while the final 20-minute sustained drone track is like a mix between Culver's more high-pitched moments and Burzum's "Tomhet" synth track from Hvis Lysset Tar Oss. 2010 tape on Runify Gal.

Bandril ‎– Evening Grey Blades tape

Improvisations on fuzzed-out synth (sounding like a Mike Ratledge's organ on very damaged drugs) degenerate into harsh noise. 2010 tape on Runify Gal.

Bandril - Weak Women cdr

Alternating between melancholy guitar melodies akin to Slint and live improvisations. Lee Stokoe at his calmest and most pensive? 2005 cdr on Gloop CDR!

Bandril - Achillis Heel cdr

Even for someone who is as steeped in obscurity as Lee Stokoe, this is one of his even more obscure outfits. In Bandril he is accompanied by Rob Galpin of the amazing Crochet and they play something like an improvised psych version of Culver. Very lo-fi sounding it starts with several minutes of random but atmospheric synth doodling and then goes on for about 35 minutes of deep sustained hot-air drone accompanied by inconspicuous percussion. Muzak for the hard of hearing? 2011 cdr on Turgid Animal.

Various ‎– Pylons And Telegraph Poles

When a compilation starts out with a Culver track, you know that it's good. So this comp features 9 tracks from UK drone and experimental artists, including Culver in a totally sleepy static mid-tone drone, fizzy psychedelic ambient by the underrated Johann Wlight, scary ambient by Dual, spacey levitating drone by Amberlight, low-pitched paralyzing distortion by iD, deep spectral ambient/drone by Arabella's Parade, cacophonous accordion/dictaphone improvisations by Rob Galpin, ambiental noise by Nixxos Lexxos, and nice organ/guitar loop drone by Karina ESP. I like this cd very much, it makes me want to sleep so much; due to the fact that I always work afternoons/evenings I should have known better than listening to such stuff just before I leave for work. Shit. Cdr on Evelyn Records.
