Helictite ‎– Nicked tape

Part free skronk jazz, part high-energy motorik motherfuck, and part Les Rallizes Denudes-like brain melt, Helictite was one of NE England No-Audience Undeground's biggest secret. This was unfortunately their last recording, played live in - where else - Gateshead - as well as the last tape release of  Fuckin' Amateurs in 2017. RIP.

(For some stupid reason I ripped also the blank sound of side 2, you might as well never listen to it, sorry for the additional data, but at this moment I'm kind of too busy to re-zip and re-upload it)

(The) Solar Plexus ‎– Sushi Roll cdr

A side project of Joe Murray (Posset) with Isaac Murray, who is probably a relative of his? The glories of Posset have been sung many times in this blog, and the sounds here are pretty much in the same vein: dictaphone sample manipulations, musique concrete improvisations on home tools, retarded scat-singing; here there is a bigger emphasis on percussion, with a lot of banging on cymbals. Ideal for those who like their experimental music skronky and incoherent. 2012 self-released cdr.

Stuart Chalmers & Yol - Discarded Bag Epiphanies tape

Maniacal incomprehensible skronk mayhem on this collaboration between the super-talented Stuart Chalmers on tape loops and tortured swarmandal and Yol on a completely fucked-up stream-of-consciousness vocal performance full of anxiety and chaos. 2018 tape on Beartown.

Filthy Turd - Buxom Psychic & Reptilian Revelator

Disgusting skronky dictaphone noise and musique concrète by everyone's beloved turd sandwich. Unsettling almost singing too, ideal for any uptown expensive restaurant. 15 tracks here but I'm not sure if I've separated them correctly. Tape on Beartown Records.

Filthy Noise Anthrope - II tape

Second tape by this Greek harsh noise project, this time as Filthy Noise Anthrope, rather than Filthy Noisy Anthrope. Leaning more on the harsh side, still this contains a lot of musique concrète influences and seems to have been recorded live next to a leaking toilet by a guy throwing up his guts. Kinda like a harsher Posset. 2005 self-released tape

Filthy Noisy Anthrope ‎– Untitled tape

Filthy Noisy Anthrope is a noise/musique concrète project of Maou, the drummer of Greek filthy noisegrindsters Raw Noise Apes, whose 7" with Dead Issue I have posted here. In this tape, he mixes field recordings with noise experiments with pedals, various objects banging with a gamelanish feel and bass murk to create a skronky noise muck. 2004 self-released tape.

Oppenheimer (Culver/Wrest/Charles Dexter Ward/Xazzaz project)

Oppenheimer is one of the many groups in which Lee Stokoe of the almighty beacon of deep drone Culver and Matching Head Tapes plays. Also playing are Jamie Stewart of Wrest and Satanhartalt (whose works will one day be covered here), Jerome Smith of Charles Dexter Ward, Female Borstal (also including Lee!) and Haikai No Ku, and Mike Simpson of the amazing Xazzaz, also of Satanhartalt and Molotov Productions. All these guys are contributors to the small but powerful North England underground noise/drone scene. Here, though, they play something slightly different, showcasing a deafening but highly rhythmic type of skronk/noise rock, which is heavily influenced by the motorik style as well as containing some surprisingly rock 'n' roll parts, especially in the 2015 release. As obvious in the liner notes, instrument duties are exchanged among the band members. Worth checking out.
