Tribes Of Neurot And Walking Time Bombs ‎– Static Migration cd

Another high point for the glorious years of Relapse/Release is this collaboration between Tribes of Neurot and Scott Ayer's Walking Time Bombs combining harrowing dark ambient with harsh noise and post-punk with ritual drums to create a sonic image of primeval landscapes and Lovecraftian worlds. Although sonically it's not that close to it, I tend to think of this as an heir to SPK's Zamia Lehmanni in its combination of post-industrial samples and electronics with devotional droning noise. 1998 cd on Release Entertainment.

SPK - Zamia Lehmanni: Songs of Byzantine Flowers

Since I referred to SPK in the Roberto Musci post, I thought I should post Zamia Lehmanni which was the first album I heard from the industrial/ambient milieu, when I was still in school. I guess there's nothing new to be said about this masterpiece; the mix of dark ambient, industrial field recordings and African/voodoo voices and percussions is sublime. 1986 LP on Side Effects/1992 cd on The Grey Area of Mute.

Theme - Valentine (Lost) Forever cd

Can't find much info about this band, apart from them being British. But their origin seems very relevant to their style as they take their cue from the legends of British dark electronic and post-industrial music like Coil, Thighpaulsandra and The Hafler Trio, and also having a more droning edge thus also being close to the best of the followers of that legacy like Cyclobe and Unicarn, while the singer's voice is amazingly similar to David Tibet's in its occultish articulation. The final track, also, is a tranced-out remix of track Burn the Truth ("If this is the end, then it's time to burn the truth" is being repeated over and over as a cathartic mantra) prepared by Steven Severin of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Nice stuff. 2009 cd on Heart & Crossbone Records.
