Mönster ‎– Arms cd

On their second lp Mönster eased up a little bit their more hardcore edges for a punkier and more rocking approach and a kind of lighter/less dirty production. If real DIY punk was played in big arenas, Mönster would have been headliners. 2006 cd on Sabotage.

Mönster ‎– Death Before Disorder LP

Mönster were a German-Canadian-Polish hardcore powerhouse with members of Highscore, Costa's Cake House, Insuiciety, The Black Hand and legendary Born Dead Icons. They played a raging mix of dbeat punk with Motorheadesque rock 'n' roll. After they released this lp I saw them live at a squat in my hometown and I even grabbed the mic to sing one verse from the anthemic "Failed." Guaranteed room destruction music. 2005 LP on Sabotage.

Mönster / Chainbreaker split 7"

Two tracks of hymnal hardcore punk 'n' roll by Canadian-Polish-German conglomeration Mönster and two more tracks of filthy, screaming rock 'n' roll hardcore punk Germans Chainbreaker. The guy on the cover reminds of a little bit of Papa Smurf, doesn't he? 2006 7" on Vendetta Records.

Trouble - Snake Eyes 7"

Fortunately this isn't the Christian metal band, but an one-off project between David Lynch's son Riley Lynch on guitar, Lynch's collaborator Dean Hurley on drums and Alex Zhang Hungtai (Dirty Beaches, Love Theme) on sax that performed the title track for the returning series of Twin Peaks. It's a good mood cabaret rock 'n' roll track that could have also appeared in an Aki Kaurismaki movie = perfection. But all the money is on side 2 "Mother's Gone," which is a slow dirge between the Twin Peaks movie's masterpiece track "The Pink Room" and early Bohren & Der Club Of Gore, that can be played on repeat all day, admiring those long accents by Hungtai's sax. Greatness. 2017 7" on Sacred Bones Records.

Destroy All Monsters ‎– Bored

I remember being very happy when I bought this album during high school as it was one my of most sought-after things after I had a piece on a rock 'n' roll magazing on how experimental and psychedelic they were and that they were something like precursors to Throbbing Gristle. Well, musically not really, but still the sounds rock. This is the band Ron Asheton of The Stooges and Michael Davis of MC5 played in after the disbandment of the respective giants of rock 'n' roll. There is also Niagara, the female singer/performance artist, with her punk delivery and some real fun cat-like growls, as in the beginning of "Bored." The music is really good proto-punk hard r'n'r, with amazing musicianship (check the jamming vibe on "What Do I Get"? and the amazing drumming) and mind-blowing solos courtesy of Sir Asheton. This is a compilation of three 7"s they released circa 1978-1979, and it was released as a cd in 1991 by Cherry Red.

Sonichaos Aeon - Symposium Lex O' Tanil tape

The next Sonichaos Aeon takes all the black metal and electronic elements of the previous demo and combine them with a lot of expired psychedelic narcotics to create a severely damaged trip. First four tracks alternate between fucked up black metal/industrial acting as a primitive version of Dodheimsgard (even the vocals are reminiscent of Aldrahn's) and unsettling beat-driven tranced-out dark electronica, as if the black metal tracks had been removed from Mysticum's In the Streams of Inferno. This is followed by two super-distorted tracks of garage/rock 'n' roll, and ending by two electronic remixes of "Satan Am I" from Hellel Benshahamar. The last one is pretty hilarious; it's a cheap club trance remix based on Spanish-sung distorted vocals and flamenco melodies. This is super fun but darkly toxic at the same time. 2002 self-released tape.
