Mucize, Miracle

Being sheltered-in isn't so bad.

My greenhouse is full of flowers all waiting to be planted outside.

This has been the longest and coldest Spring.
It has happened before, all of a sudden it will be Summer.

I watched a truly fabulous movie last night.

"Mucize" (Miracle) is based on a true story.
It takes place in a remote village in Eastern Anatolia.

Everything is special about this movie, the costumes, the beautiful scenery, the beautiful backdrops, the stunning fabrics and embroideries and of course, the people in this story.

Have you seen this movie?

It is pink

It hasn't bloomed in years.

It was forgotten, in a corner.
To my surprise a flower spike appeared a couple of weeks ago.
I was hoping that it would be pink.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, is growing outside.
Thank goodness for my greenhouse.

My orange tree is blooming in my greenhouse.

The Kumquat tree has been bearing fruit since last summer.

How do you eat Kumquats?
Do you pop them into your mouth whole?
Or do you eat only the sweet rind?

I love seeing the faces when my little friends eat a Kumquat for the first time.

Happy Surprises to you,
Gina

There will be more

Snow, that is

The horse trough fountain is without water,  the Christmas tree has lost its splendor.

Only a little puddle is open, the rest of the pond has frozen over.   The geese and most of the ducks have left.

Looks lonesome doesn't it. It isn't.

As soon as the sun comes out the world changes.

Have to clear the snow from the windows.
The greenhouse is heated only by the sun.

The rest of the snow has melted from the glass.

That is where my geraniums live during the cold months.
Some of them are more than 20 years old.

My greenhouse has blue walls...
they absorb the sun's rays and give off the heat at night.

Petunias are like geraniums, they never stop blooming.

One of my most favorite greenhouse flowers are the Nasturtiums.
They don't ask for much, a little water now and then, that's all.

Iceland Poppies are easy.  I make sure that I plant a few in pots so that I can bring them inside.

Many species of cacti.

In other words, I can have flowers all winter,
even if only a little petite bouquet.

Stay warm dear friends,

Surprise, Surprise

The first flowers growing outside

and Kumquats growing inside, in my greenhouse.

I had no idea that Kumquats were forming on my little tree.
I couldn't see them when they were green.

Brought these candied Kumquats from Italy.
Wish I knew the recipe.

Have a lovely weekend dear friends,

Rain, lots of it, finally.

No snow this time. Hallelujah

Calves are becoming independent.

The Pond is overflowing, the extra water is irrigating our dry pastures.

Daffodils are still going strong.

Will you join me for a little quiz at the end of this post?

My greenhouse is holding little seedlings waiting for the weather to improve.

My Oleander tree is making a comeback. It's been in the greenhouse all winter.  I have given it copious amounts of water this year.  What a difference that made.

Little lambs don't mind the rain, their woolly mothers keep them close.

Now, here is the Quiz.

You might think that you know this familiar flower.

It's the growth habit that might confuse most gardeners.

I purchased this particular plant more than forty years ago.
I started with one plant and now I have only one plant left.

I was successful in propagating it before and I will do it again.

Have a great weekend my dear friends.

Very cold, very windy

Back to Winter

And to my greenhouse for a little color.

New snow in the mountains to the East.

Waiting to be planted outside.

Theresa's hand painted rocks,  FROM HER NEWLY OPENED ETSY SHOP,  bring a little color to the inside.

Theresa writes a very special blog ART'S THE ANSWER.
Please visit her.

Aren't these beautiful!

Each hand painted stone a masterpiece.

My greenhouse makes waiting for Spring a little easier.

Have a great week my dear friends.

Winter Blues

Thank goodness for my simple little greenhouse

It helps me get over the winter blues.

My greenhouse is not heated so it doesn't hold many varieties.

 My geraniums love it.

Some of my geraniums are more than 20 years old and I have taken many cuttings from favorites.

Pasha sleeps in the greenhouse.
Often, in January and February we turn on a little space heater for him.

A trip to the florist always brightens the day.

My blogging friend Rosemary will laugh at me.
Rosemary has Hellebore blooming in her January garden.

I dug into the frozen ground to transplant one for the house.
It will grow and bloom long before those which are growing in my garden.

But soon, very soon, we will sail to balmier climates where we will enjoy the warm ocean breezes.

Let us out!

We are ready to be planted outside.
We are ready to dazzle.
But wait, maybe we should reconsider;

nothing but WHITE.

Hellebore don't mind.

For now we can wait inside.

And keep "The Painter" company.

Have a great remainder of the week my dear Friends.

It may still be cold outside

In fact, it still freezes at night.

My humble little greenhouse will have to suffice for now.

It is heated by the sun.

It makes it possible for me to save my geraniums from one year to the next.

I can grow enough different varieties to fashion a flower bouquet whenever the mood strikes me.

Every year I add a few new varieties.

The blue cement wall absorbs the heat from the sun.

Papaver nauticale  love the cool greenhouse.

Nasturtiums planted themselves.

Soon all plants will go outside and my greenhouse will be just another sad little place.

Have a great remainder of the week my dear
Blogging Friends.
