For this week's Science Fiction Saturday post, I present to you the cover of The Flash #28 from DC Comics. The issue is a DC K.O. tie-in and features Jay Garrick the Golden Age Flash vs Green Lantern Guy Gardner. Interesting to see that both superheroes are fighting with swords.
Let's start off this year's Countdown to Christmas with DC's I Saw Ma Hukel Kissing Santa Claus #1. The issue actually came out the day before Thanksgiving but I decided to post it now. The cover features Stargirl, Jay Garrick aka the Golden Age Flash and Jade watching Ma Hunkel kissing Santa Claus. There are eight stories featuring Ma Hunkel aka the Golden Age Red Tornado (some members of the Justice Society also appears briefly), Dr. Light (guest starring the Atom and a few other superheroes), the Captain (he's still Captain Marvel to me), Galaxy, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Animal Man (guest starring the Phantom Stranger) and the Martian Manhunter.

The Justice Society of America wishes every one a safe and happy Thanksgiving. The Golden Age heroes in this group includes the Atom, Sandman, Spectre, Flash, Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Green Lantern and Hourman. I'm guessing Ma Hunkel aka the Red Tornado cooked the turkey much to Hawkman's dismay and is now in the kitchen cleaning up.
Out now is New History of the DC Universe #1 from DC Comics: "Learn the definitive history of the DC Universe! Just look at all the superheroes on the wraparound cover that includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Unknown Soldier, Sandman, Wildcat, Green Lantern, Flash, Black Canary, Dr. Fate, Vigilante, Zatara, Aquaman, Spectre, Amazing-Man and Hawkgirl.
DC Comics teams up with Legendary Comics again with Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2 #1 that came out earlier this week. The cover features Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman with Godzilla and Kong in the background. What makes this interesting is the wedding of Barry Allen aka the Flash and Iris West. Only Clark Kent aka Superman, Bruce Wayne aka Batman and Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman are actually at the wedding while several members of the Justice League and Teen Titans watch from the Hall of Justice. Amanda Waller and her Suicide Squad are also in this issue and a giant King Shark fights Godzilla. There's more but I won't spoil it all here.
The last children's book that I picked up at the local Dollar Tree on Monday was DC Super Friends: Triple Threat. The story was written by Steve Korte with illustrations by Erik Doescher, Mike DeCarlo and David Tanguay. The cover features Batman, Robin, Flash and Cyborg. The Super Friends go up against Joker, Riddler and Penguin before Aquaman shows up at the end. The story and artwork are pretty fun but I'm a little miffed that Aquaman is not also on the cover.
What makes the cover of Flash #17 so freaky? Because Travis Morgan the Warlord sporting an eyepatch is on it.
Batman - Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns #1 (January, 2025) came out this week just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving today. The cover features Batman, Robin, Zatanna and Santa Claus. The story actually contains most of the Justice League. I think this is the first time that I noticed that Flash's daughter is named Thunderheart. Yes, this mini-series is a sequel to last year's mini-series.
Now that the Countdown to Halloween 2024 is over, it's time to get back to our regular postings. Here is the ad for the new JSA #1 coming out on November 6, 2024. This time the Justice Society of America's core membership appears to include Jade, Obsidian, Doctor Mid-Nite (Beth Chapel), Dr. Fate (Khalid Nassour), Hourman (Rick Tyler), Flash (Jay Gerrick), Wildcat (Ted Grant) and Green Lantern (Alan Scott).
I would start a weekly Flash Friday post if I had more items like this DC Comics Ooshies The Flash pencil topper. I'm sure that it's Barry Allen under the mask. He's in running mode so I was lucky to snap some fast pictures of him without him being too blurry.
My sister actually picked up three DC Super Friends Notebooks at the local Dillons a few weeks ago because they were on sale. The one featuring Batman and his rogue gallery was sixteen cents while the other two were twelve cents each. Now that is what I call one hell of a price reduction.
I actually picked up this Hot Wheels 2023 Flash White Batmobile back in mid-September at the local Walmart's. It is #103 in the main set and #3 in the Batman subset. While the Batmobile appears in the Flash movie, it's not white. It's pretty cool and I'm thinking of getting another one to open up for the fun of it.
This year's Halloween treat from DC Comics is DC's Ghouls Just Wanna Fun #1. Surprisingly, Harley Quinn is not on the cover. Instead, it's Clark Kent and Lois Lane getting tricked by some little goblins dressed up as the Flash, Mary Marvel, Animal Man and Lobo. The best costume award goes to the one that looks like Man-Bat but he's cheating since that's not a costume.
The stories include the Question in "A Look to Die For", Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) in "The Shadow Over Coast City", Animal Man in "This Day, Anything Goes" (my favorite), Nightwing in "The Dark Bite", Superman in "The Spoils", Robotman in "Not Fade Away", Crush and Lobo in "Happy Hal(lobo)ween", and Man-Bat in "Out of the Shadows".

I'm excited about "Heir to the Kingdom": Batman & Superman Travel to the Kingdom Come Universe in Official Prequel. I was clearing out my picture file on my computer when I realized that I have never posted about the DC Super Friends Jumbo and Coloring Book that I picked up some time ago. I can't remember if I bought it at the local Dollar General or the local Dollar Tree. I also can't remember if I got it last year or the year before. Sucks getting old but the coloring book are full of cute kid versions of my favorite superheroes from DC Comics. The cover features Supergirl, Superman, Batman, Batman and Flash. Aquaman, Wonder Woman and a few other super friends are also featured inside. The back cover is a match game that you can cut out and play.
The Huntress (Helana Wayne) is the sole survivor on the cover of Justice Society of America #1 from DC Comics. The former JSA members are "ghosts" in the background and include Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Flash (Jay Garrick), Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Wildcat, Sandman, Hourman and Starman. This continues the story started in The New Golden Age one-shot issue and is a must read before reading this issue. Catwoman is also inside this issue along with a very interesting JSA that her and the Huntress leads twenty-six years from now.
Our local Dillons grocery store accidently got a case of the Flash Cinnamon Bolts cereal. They were never put on the shelf and went straight to the clearance shelf. My sister actually picked up a box for me when she discovered them early in October. Unfortunately, the store did not get any of the other Cap'n Cruch cereals inspired by DC Comics. The cinnamon-flavored cereal are shaped like lightning bolts.
The back of the box features a large pinup of Barry Alan running as the Flash along with some Flash Facts:
One side of the cereal box showcases the Superman Strong Berry and Supergirl Strong Berry (strawberry) cereal boxes:
So how was the actual lightning bolt-shaped cereal? The cinnamon flavor was weak with the milk making it even weaker. They were a little bit better without the milk. I was also disappointed that the box didn't come a cheap Flash lightning bolt toy ring. The store had a few more boxes on their clearance shelf last weekend but I didn't bother picking up another box.
Geoff Johns is bringing back the Golden Age of DC Comics in a one-shot special called The New Golden Age coming out on November 8, 2022. This will lead to a new Justice Society of America title and Stargirl: The Lost Children. The new JSA team will consist of Hawkman, Flash (Jay Garrick), Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Dr. Fate, Huntress (Helena Wayne), Power Girl, Wildcat (Yolanda Montez), Dr. Mid-Nite (Beth Chapel), Jakeem and Thunderbolt. I can't wait for the one-shot special and the new titles.
