Science Fiction Saturday: Lobo #1

DC Comics released Lobo #1 earlier this week as part of their Next Level event. Here is the official summary:

"VRRRRROOOOOOMMMMMMMM! The Main Man’s back, baby! And his ride is a motorcycle that moves at the speed of sound, but only if that sound is a rippin’ guitar solo, and you better hop on before he leaves you in the dust with all the bastiches he’s fragged for money or convenience! The Eisner-nominated creative team that brought you a fantastic parable of adolescence in the Midwest, the story of an artist who embraces darkness a little too closely, and the tale of a gunslinger with too much grit to stay buried brings you a classic yarn spun in the star-kissed threads of the cosmic DC Universe."

Countdown to Christmas 2025 Day 14: Official Supergirl Teaser Trailer

Christmas came early for comic book fans with the release of the official teaser trailer for the upcoming Supergirl movie starring Milly Alcock. Yes, Krypto is in it as is Lobo played by Jason Momoa. I can't wait to watch the movie in 2026.

Countdown to Halloween 2023 Day 5: DC's Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun #1

This year's Halloween treat from DC Comics is DC's Ghouls Just Wanna Fun #1. Surprisingly, Harley Quinn is not on the cover. Instead, it's Clark Kent and Lois Lane getting tricked by some little goblins dressed up as the Flash, Mary Marvel, Animal Man and Lobo. The best costume award goes to the one that looks like Man-Bat but he's cheating since that's not a costume.

The stories include the Question in "A Look to Die For", Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) in "The Shadow Over Coast City", Animal Man in "This Day, Anything Goes" (my favorite), Nightwing in "The Dark Bite", Superman in "The Spoils", Robotman in "Not Fade Away", Crush and Lobo in "Happy Hal(lobo)ween", and Man-Bat in "Out of the Shadows".

Note: This is one of four covers.

L.E.G.I.O.N. '90 #17 (1990)

The sixth comic book in the Ollie's grab bag was L.E.G.I.O.N. '90 #17 (1990) from DC Comics and is a version of the Legion of Super-Heroes. The cover features Vril Dox, Strata, Lyrissa and Stealth. Lobo, Captain Comet and Lady Quark also appear in this issue. By the way, L.E.G.I.O.N. stands for Licensed Extra-Governmental Interstellar Operatives Network and the three founding characters first appeared in the three issue Invasion mini series, which I have read and still have. I have also read L.E.G.I.O.N. '94 #65 and 70, which is the last issue (the series actually started as L.E.G.I.O.N. '89 and was actually replaced with R.E.B.E.L.S. '94). The story is titled "The Power of Positive Thinking" and is a small piece of a bigger puzzle so I won't go into detail here but it was an interesting read.
