Countdown to Halloween 2025 Day 24: King Spawn #50

Image Comics released King Spawn #1 on Wednesday. There are several variant covers but I'm only going to show the first three in this post. Here is the official summary: Cover A was done by Todd McFarlane, cover B was done by Puppeteer Lee, and cover C was done by Skottie Young.

"Four years ago, Todd McFarlane launched the first large-scale expansion of the Spawn Universe with King Spawn #1. Now we are here to celebrate the success of the expanded Spawn’s Universe with King Spawn #50. An oversized issue with a story that will cross over into all three of the #50’s coming out in the coming months. (King Spawn, Gunslinger Spawn, The Scorched). An ancient force, almost as old as time itself, has returned, and Spawn is in its sights. The story, sent into two chapters per issue, will be penciled by two of the Spawn Universe’s best, Stephen Segovia and Carlo Barberi. This is the one you don’t want to miss."

Countdown to Halloween 2024 Day 29: Universal Monsters: Frankenstein #1-3

Universal Monsters: Frankenstein #1 from Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment was released in August while #2 hit the newsstands in September and #3 came out this month. The covers and interior artwork of all three are great with what I want to call dayglo coloration. The series is loosely based on the 1931 movie starring Boris Karloff as the monster.

Countdown to Halloween 2022 Day 15: Halloween Party Cover

Scotch McTiernan's Halloween Party is a one-shot special from Image Comics that was released earlier this week. Killer clowns, vampires, demons, aliens and other creatures gather at the annual Monster Mirthapalooza in Ridgeway City, New Jersey. Scotch McTiernan, monster hunter, shows up to the horror of the monsters. Past stories are told including a spoof on E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. Things then take a turn for the worse for all the party goers. If you want some humor with your monsters, then I highly recommend picking up a copy.

Convergence: Batman: Shadow of the Bat #2

Convergence: Batman: Shadow the Bat #2 (July 2015) has a nice cover featuring Batman, Azrael and Wetworks:
Cover of Convergence: Batman: Shadow of the Bat #2 from DC Comics
Too bad I can't say that about the interior artwork:
Page 9 of Convergence: Batman: Shadow of the Bat #2 from DC Comics
Yeah, this entire issue takes place on a battleship. Basically, it's Batman teaming up with Azrael against Wetworks. At the end of the story, Batman says "I have no words." That's because he and the rest used too many of them through the book. Surprisingly, nobody dies.

Convergence: Aquaman #1

At first, I thought the art on Convergence: Aquaman #1 (June 2015) was sick looking and not in a good way. Then I read that Arthur had been away from ocean water for a year when the dome came down in Metropolis and the tap water was just not the same. He had destroyed Chemo but he polluted the harbor by doing so. Kind of ironic that Aquaman would destroy his natural habitat like that.

This is the pre-zero hour hook version of Arthur:
Page 5 of Convergence: Aquaman #1 from DC Comics
Yeah, Deathblow from the Wildstorm universe shows up when the dome comes down and starts shooting agents:
Deathblow shows up in Convergence: Aquaman #1 from DC Comics
So the next issue will be a showdown between Aquaman and Deathblow.

PCH Super Hero Comic Books Plus Graphic Novel

My Superhero Comic Books plus graphic novel grab bag arrived from Publishers Clearing House (PCH) on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. We got a nice mix with some comics from DC Comics and various independent comic publishers. Unfortunately, there was nothing from Marvel Comics. I haven't had the chance to read any of them yet so no reviews.
Cover of Bloodshot #11 from Valiant
First up is Bloodshot #11 (December 1993) from Valiant Comics. The only other issue that I have in this series is #3.
Front cover of G.I. Joe #16 from Devil's Due Publishing
Back cover of G.I. Joe #16 from Devil's Due Publishing
Next up is G.I. Joe #16 (October 2006) from Devil's Due Publishing. I have no other issues of this series from this publisher.
Cover of Justice League International #62 from DC Comics
I also received Justice League International #62 (March 1994) from DC Comics. This joins #20 and #21 that I already have.
Front cover of Robotech: The Macross Saga #5 from Comico
Robotech: The Macross Saga #5 (August 1985) from Comico was also included. I have never read an issue of this comic based on the cartoon series.
Back cover of Robotech: The Macross Saga #5 from Comico
I also have never seen an episode of Robotech: The Macross Saga.
Wraparound cover of Robotech: The Macross Saga #5 from Comico
I love the wraparound cover.
Front cover of Spawn Batman graphic novel from Image Comics
Finally, the graphic novel that I received was Spawn Batman (1994) from Image Comics. While I only have three issues of Spawn (#1, 2, 116), I do have a lot issues of Batman and related titles.
Back cover of Spawn Batman graphic novel from Image Comics
Overall, an interesting grab bag of comics from PCH. I was surprised at the choice for the graphic novel.

Women Wednesday: Paul Dini's Jingle Belle

Paul Dini's Jingle Belle Gift-Wrapped (December 2011) one shot special from Image Comics hit the shelves on December 14 this year. For those not in the know, she is Santa's spoiled teenage daughter and first appeared in Oni Double Feature #13 (Summer 1999). She moved to Dark Horse Comics from 2004 to 2007 before moving to Image Comics's Top Cow Productions in 2008. Jingle Belle has her own website here.

Thrift Store Find: Deathblow #20

Saturday was good to me for not only did I find a Batman Begins Armored Speed Bike but I also found a copy of Deathblow #20 (October 1995) from Image Comics guest starring Gen13 for only fifty cents. This is the only issue that I have of the series.

Note: The above image is from Comic Book Database since my scanner was acting up on me (it kept cropping the top off).

TFAW Grab Bag #30: Sky Pirates of Neo Terra #4

Camilla d'Errico was the cover artist as well as the interior penciller and inker for Image's Sky Pirates of Neo Terra #4 (January 2010). From my understanding, this five issue series was based on the fantasy video game for the Nintendo DS and Wii. I would have never picked up this series on my own so it was a nice surprise from TFAW.

TFAW Grab Bag #29: God Complex #3

Daniel Berman and Michael Avon Oeming did the cover for Image's God Complex #3 (February 2010). They also wrote the seven issue series about the Greek gods living in the modern world. Medusa makes an appearance before Paul the hero makes an reference to Raiders of the Lost Arc.

TFAW Grab Bag #28: G-Man: Cape Crisis #5

Chris Giarrusso did the cover for Image's G-Man: Cape Crisis #5 (January 2010), which is also the last issue of the limited series. He also wrote the story and drew the interior art. I like this issue and would like to see more. This was a pleasant surprise in the grab bag from TFAW.

TFAW Grab Bag #27: Fall Out Toy Works #3

Stanley "Artgerm" Lau did the cover for Image's Fall Out Toy Works #3 (February 2010). The five-part limited series is about an inventor falling in love with his android creation. I would have never picked this up even for the science fiction elements.

There is a trade paperback available for those interested in picking it up:
