Bretonnia Vs Beastmen (Revenge!) [Fantasy 6mm]

El pasado sábado pude jugar una partida de KoW con mi amigo Javier. Esta vez decidí ponerme al mando de los Hombres Bestia y cedí el mando de los bretonianos a Javier.

Last saturday I could play a KoW battle agains my friend Javier. This time I decided to command the Beastmen and left the bretonnian command to Javier.

El ejército bretoniano es el mismo que en las últimas partidas, pero añadiendo una Hechicera en lugar del Héroe en pegaso y usando un General en lugar de un Héroe como comandante.

 The bretonnian army is the same that the last games, but using a sorcerer instead the Hero on pegasus and a General instead the Hero as commander.

El ejército de Hombres bestia fue diferente al de la última vez, ya que quería probar las nuevas unidades. Usé dos regimientos de Gors (Ax) y uno de Bestigors (Greatax), una tropa de Minotauros (Ogres), un regimiento de Centigors (Fleabag riders), una tropa de Ogros Dragón (Molochs), un chamán (Wiz), un Minotauro de condenación (Krudger on chariot) y un Shaggoth (Gakamak the Smasher).

The beastmen army was different than the last one, as I want to try the new painted units. I used two Gor regiments (Ax) and one of Bestigors (Greatax), one troop of Minotaurs (Ogres), one Centigor regiment (Fleabag riders), one troop of Dragon ogres (Molochs), a Shaman (Wiz), one Doom Bull (Krudger on chariot) and a Shaggoth (Gakamak the Smasher).

No recuerdo muy bien la partida, pero se decidió por la suerte en las tiradas. Los caballeros noveles no consiguieron hacer apenas daño a los minotauros. Abajo, en una arriesgada carga, los caballeros del reino consiguieron hacer cinco daños al Shaggoth, pero no acabaron con él.

Can´t remember very well the battle, but it was decided by the luck with the rolls. Knights errant can´t barely scratch the minos. Below, in a risky charge, the Knights of the Realm could do five damages to the Shaggoth, but was not enough to finish him.

Lamentablemente, este heroico acto no sirvió de mucho y las malignas criaturas del Caos continuaron su avance.

... hasta que sólo unos pocos sobrevivientes bretonianos quedaron en el campo de batalla: la doncella del Grial y la dotación del trebuchet.

El maligno Minotauro de Condenación clavó sus ojos en la máquina de guerra, dispuesto a tomarse un último tentempié con los cuerpos de los asustados campesinos bretonianos. Sus ansias de sangre fueron sin embargo frustradas por la damisela, que se interpuso en su camino y pese a resultar herida, logró ganar algo de tiempo para que huyesen los campesinos.

The vile Doom Bull stared into the war machine, willing to take a last snack with the bodies of the scared bretonnian peasants. His blood urge was frustrated by the Damsel, who got in his way and, despite being injured, managed to buy some time for the peasants to flee.

Llegado el momento, la doncella desapareció en medio de una niebla mística. Ahora era su deber regresar para informar de la derrota y que el duque tomase las medidas oportunas... pero estaba herida y sola en medio de un bosque infestado de criaturas del Caos.

When it comes the time, the Damsel disappeared into a mystical fog. Now it was his duty to report back the defeat and let the Duke to take the appropriate measures... but she was wounded and alone in a forest infested with Chaos creatures.

El hechicero está apunto de hacer huir a la unidad de 10 caballeros, que se salvó gracias a la repetición del chequeo de nervios por estar cerca del héroe. Las unidades de gors continían el combate con los hombres de armas, causando cuatro daños a cada una y dejarlas desorganizadas.

The wizard is about to rout the unit of 10 knights of the realm, but it stays firm  thanks to the repetition of nerve test by being close to the hero. The units of gors continue the combat with men at arms units, making four damage to each one and disrupting them.

El general hombre bestia carga sobre los arqueros pero su tirada de ataque es muy mala.

Bretonnia Turn #4

Los caballeros del reino cargan contra los bestigors y los ponen en fuga. El héroe carga por el flanco a una unidad de gors, pero no consigue hacerlos huir.

The knights of the realm unit charges the bestigor unit and rout them. He hero charges the flank of a gors unit, but the beastmen hold the position.

Los caballeros en pegaso cargan sobre otra unidad de gors, pero tampoco consiguen hacerla huir.

La situación es ya desesperada para los hombres bestia, pero pueden dar la vuelta a la batalla...
Las tres unidades de gors cargan a las dos unidades de hombres de armas y la de pegasos.

Las tres unidades bretonianas son aniquiladas. El hechicero lanza su rayo sobre la unidad grande de caballeros del reino (destruirla es la clave para salvar la partida), pero no consigue provocar daños...

Le voy pillando el truco al KoW. Me encanta la rapidez y sencillez con la que se juega una partida, creo que es un juego perfecto para introducir a alguien nuevo en el mundo de los wargames. Sin embargo, los combates por turnos (ahora te mato yo, ahora me matas tú) hacen que la partida sea un poco extraña para alguien con más experiencia... Definitivamente tendré que cambiarlo para que los combates sean simultáneos.
La lista de orcos funciona bastante bien para los hombres bestia. Las pocas excepciones han sido el mago y los mastines, para los que he usado la lista de goblins (mago y caballería).

I'm getting the hang of KoW. I love the speed and simplicity with which a game is played, I think it's a perfect game to introduce someone new to wargames. However, the turn-based combat (now I kill you, then you kill me) make the game a little strange for someone with more experience ... Definitely have to change it in order to the combats be simultaneous.
The list of orcs works pretty well for the beastmen. The few exceptions have been the sorcerer and the hounds, for which I´ve used the list of goblins (wizard and cavalry).

Fire Baptism [fantasy 6mm]

Por fin llegó la hora de probar sobre la mesa mi ejército de 6mm. Como rivales los elfos silvanos de Slorm.

Despliegue - Deployment

Comienzan los bretonianos y avanzan. El trebuchet logra hacer 9 daños a una horda de arqueros, pero no es suficiente para hacerla huir.

Bretonnians start moving and advance. The trebuchet does nine damage to a horde of archers, but it is not enough to make them flee.

Los elfos deciden emplear su famosa y poco honorable táctica de "ven a por mí mientras oscurezco el cielo con mis flechas". Una horda de arqueros losgra causar 5 daños a la tropa de pegasos, pero aguantan la posición. El trebuchet no corre la misma suerte y su dotación es acribillada a flechazos.

The elves decide to use his famous and dishonorable tactic of "come and get me while I darken the sky with my arrows." A horde of archers cause five damage to the Pegasus troop, but they hold their position. The trebuchet does not have the same luck and its crew is riddled with arrows.

 Con una atronadora carga conjunta del regimiento de caballería y los cabaleros en pegasos, los bretonianos causan 12 impactos a la horda de arqueros, que se desbanda tras una mala tirada de coraje (11+12).

With a thunderous joint charge of knight regiment and pegasus knights, bretonnians cause 12 damages the archers horde, which disbanded after a poor courage roll (11 +12).

 

El resto del ejército continúa el avance. Los arqueros consiguen provocar algún daño en los lanceros elfos.

The rest of the army continues advancing. Archers get to cause some damage to the elves spearmen.

Los elfos contratacan. Los árboles cargan contra el regimiento de caballeros, pero a pesar de su descomunal fuerza sólo provocan un daño. Los lanceros elfos cargan a su vez contra los lanceros bretonianos, provocando 4 y 3 daños respectivamente a cada unidad. Los hombres de armas mantienen la posición y los elfos son repelidos gracias a la presencia del portaestandarte de batalla.

The elves strike back. Tree men charge against the knights regiment, but despite his enormous strength only cause one damage. The elve spearmen  charfe against the bretonnian men at arms, causing 4 and 3 damage to each unit respectively. Men at arms hold the position and elves are repelled, thanks to the presence of the Army Standard Bearer.

En un nuevo acto de cobardía, la horda de arqueros elfos dispara (20 dados!) sobre el general bretoniano. Por suerte sólo sufre 4 daños y logra superar su chequeo de coraje.

In another act of cowardice, the elves archers horde shoots (20 dice!) the Bretonnian general. He luckily only suffers 4 damage and manages to overcome his courage check.

De nuevo el turno bretoniano, los caballeros no tienen piedad con el hombre árbol.

Bretonnian turn again, Knights have no mercy with the tree men.

El general bretoniano, enrabietado por la cobardía de los elfos, carga sobre la horda de arqueros apoyado por el héroe en pegaso, que carga sobre el flanco (dobla ataques). Entre los dos personajes logran poner en fuga a los elfos.

The Bretonnian general, enraged by the cowardice of the elves, charges the archer horde supported by the other hero on pegasus, who charges on the flank (doubles attacks). These two characters manage to disband the elves.

 En el centro del campo de batalla una unidad de hombres de armas deja hueco para que cargue la caballería, aunque no es muy buena idea hacerlo contra una falange de lanceros... Ni este combate ni el de la otra unidad de hombres de armas es decisivo, de manera que los bretonianos son repelidos.

In the center of the battlefield, a men at arms unit leaves room to let the cavalry charge, although it´s not a very good idea to do it against a spearmen phalanx...  Neither this nor the other men at arms unit combat is decisive, so bretonnians are repelled.

En un intento desesperado por salvar la situación los lanceros elfos contraatacan, pero no consiguen nada...

In a desperate attempt to save the situation elven spearmen charge, but get nothing...

... Y los bretonianos se les echan encima.

Conclusiones de la partida:
- El juego es muy ágil, y eso nos gusta.
- Que sólo ataque en cuerpo a cuerpo el jugador que tiene el turno es algo que no me termina de convencer, aunque he de reconocer que le da mucha velocidad a la partida.
- Algunas unidades en las listas se pueden hacer muy brutas.

En resumen, que nos ha gustado mucho la partida y esperamos repetir pronto. Eso sí, hace falta más escenografía...

Conclusions after the game:

- The game is very agile, and we like that.
- The fact that only the player with the turn can attack in melee it is something that does not convince me, although I must admit that it gives a lot of speed to the game.
- Some units in the lists can be made very dangerous.

In short, we really liked the game and hope to repeat soon. Ok, but we need more scenery ...
