Another mystery soundboard item. The sound is nearly perfect, but there is a tiny bit of static noise in two tracks near the end of the first CDR, probably from disc rot. The performance is pretty strong, but not as good as those from the original incarnation of the band, and I don't love all the arrangements.

Here's a Blondie show from New Year's Eve 1979 a few have requested lately. I'd shared it 5 years ago but a lot has changed (mainly the links and services) since then.

I first really "heard" Blondie in 1980. I'd likely heard her on the radio prior to that, but I found an 8-track tape of her in 1980 and fell in love with her voice. I wasn't allowed to listen to rock 'n' roll as a kid so I missed out (back then) on a lot of great artists and had to sneak around to finally start listening to the music I loved. My dad actually found my first Blondie cassette tape and smashed it against a brick wall. When he came across the Blondie 8-track tape, he used a Roberts R7 (I think that's the model...been to long ago) reel-to-reel recorder with and 8-track port to record over it. Today, I own that Roberts reel-to-reel recorder and things area lot different. I think this is half the reason I love music, and especially the late 1960's - early 1980's music, so much. The other half is that it was just excellent music!

The last song. "Sunday Girl", is only 3 minutes, 6 seconds long and the credits start rolling right before the song fades out and the program ends. I could've used the standard DVD burner's menu, but instead I decided to just make this a put in and play DVD with no menu. If I ever build another DVD project out of this I'll add a menu.

There was some confusion the first time I uploaded this DVD as to whether or no it was from the officially released 1979 Apollo Theatre DVD. It isn't. That show was from March of 1979, and while I don't have it, the TV program noted that this show was on December 31st, 1979 before it began airing.

I think Blondie and her whole band were at their prime in this time period. Her voice is flawless and the music, while still having some disco types of sound (I never liked disco and never will) in some songs, was much more rock 'n' roll sounding with guitar, keyboards, drums, and the likes.

Notes;
Quote:McManus Entertainment is thrilled to announce the return to Australia of one of music's most acclaimed bands, Blondie, and DiscLive Network will be there to capture just TWO spectacular shows - at the Melbourne Myer Music Bowl, on Dec 3, 2012, and the Enmore in Sydney on Dec 6, 2012! We will be offering limited edition, NUMBERED live collectibe two-CD sets of the performance to fans who attend the shows, and those round the world, while supplies last. Blondie emerged from New York in the late 70s and quickly became music, style and pop culture icons selling over 40 million albums globally throughout their 37-year career. Scoring hits with reggae, rock/disco, hip-hop and pop songs alike, Blondie pioneered the early American new wave and punk scenes of the 70s. The disco-infused track Heart of Glass was Blondie's first US number one single which became a worldwide hit selling more than a million copies. Blondie repeatedly reached the top of the charts over the course of four decades with hits such as One Way Or Another, Rapture, The Tide Is High, Call Me, Picture This, Rip Her To Shreds, Hanging On The Telephone and Maria. The band landed a phenomenal five US and five UK number one singles cementing them as music royalty. Deborah Harry is unquestionably one of the most important and influential women to have graced the stage and a living punk icon. Blondie has continued to be a powerhouse live act, attracting audiences around the world. 2006 saw Blondie inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the band's plaque situated right below The Beatles. This is the first time Blondie has EVER done an "instant" collectible product ANYWHERE - so make sure and reserve your copy TODAY!

{LATE ADDITION (By Subtraction) INFO -- Complete Show? No. Missing "Heart Of Glass."

You can hear HOG just start to follow FAaR, but fades away and radiates not, rather it stops and disappears, from only known existing, SBD recording. This was neither addressed nor mentioned by the uploader... Maybe whoever originally shared the SBD did not like "The Disco Song."}

Uploader's Comment: A comment from rtalwani on my Blondie May 4 1978 torrent asked if I had taped them in 1979 at the Palladium, with Fripp. I hadn't, but i did have a soundboard of that show. I didn't originally like the quality and gave it a "good" rating, sort of 3 out of 10. But I just gave it a listen and was suprised to find that it's really very good.
It's an odd mix, maybe a monitor recording for the rhythm section; certainly the bass and drums are quite present. But so is everything else, and it really is ok and doesn't even seem very far off the master. I took a quick look and it doesn't seem to be a common recording so here it goes. Maybe someone has a better copy, perhaps in stereo? This one seems to be mono.
I don't know the exact date, but this is the show that rtalwani was asking about because Fripp is on Sister Midnight and Heroes. My pitiful attempt at a songlist follows, feel free to correct...

The only signal processing applied to this recording was manual click removal. I think I got all the big ones, and a mess of the smaller ones, over several weeks. When I found myself repairing flaws I could see but not hear, it was time to stop. Some clicks, pops, and other vinyl artifacts will remain. Slight hiss is evident from the source tape and/or the PA system and amplifiers, but the fidelity, recording, editing, and performance are all very good without any "for the time period" caveats. The source is stereo, evidently a reasonably well balanced soundboard mix. Debbie and the boys are tight, with a little more dirt under the fingernails than on the studio albums.

This offering represents Sides 1 & 2 of a double LP bootleg, also released as a single LP bootleg called Headlines (Lunar Toones/Australian Light & Magic). Sides 3 & 4 have also been released as a bootleg called Little Doll (Barbie Records), but that material is either King Biscuit Flower Hour or officially released material.

It didn't really need a split between the first two tracks, but since the artwork listed them separately, I went with it. (The vinyl had no "bands" between tracks at all, a not uncommon situation with vinyl bootlegs.)

10 In The Flesh
11 Boom Boom In The Zoom Zoom Room
12 Rapture
13 Rip Her To Shreds
14 Heart of Glass

Total Time = 71:00 min

The French DJ talks at the beginning of tracks 4, 10 and 14. He doesn't talk over the music. This is complete with no songs cut. The tape flip was very quick during crowd cheer. Stonecutter's 1st gen tape clocks in at 71:00 min. Appears to be pitch perfect. The sound quality is very good to excellent. I did find 2 other versions of this broadcast. One that was 73:23 min. I noticed it played noticeably slower. Which explains why the time length was longer. The second version I found was 69:36 min. I haven't heard that one. I've always liked Blondie's music. It was unique and created a style of music all her own. I had the chance to see her on the opening date of her 1999 tour. The only time I've seen her and yes, I did tape it. So If you're a fan of Blondie and you don't have this date, now's your chance to own a copy of this. Thanks to Rich for sending his tape to be shared.

This is NOT the well known Musikladen Extra performance of January, 21st 1978 !!! This is the 2nd time Blondie got invited to Musikladen to promote their new album "Parallel Lines" on September 19th, 1978. Besides the different setlist, she also wears baggy shorts and a white shirt instead of the camouflage outfit she wore on the 1st appearance.

To my knowledge this appearance has only been transmitted twice. The original broadcast of 42 mins in 1978, and a 28 mins shorter version broadcasted by VH-1 For the 28 mins version i have to thank FUNHOUSES who gave me a copy 11 years ago!

Having both these footages i decided to compile it to the best quality i own The original broadcast suffered from dropouts and minor tape speed problems. As the original footage contained 4 more songs, i cutted these out and pasted them into the VH-1 footage. Also the beginning and 50 seconds of the end on the VH-1 footage was missing. After 4 hours of authoring i was pleased with the result
