NOTES:
The first show. Its been quite a long time since I've journeyed to the first show. I was at Hartford in 2002 for the Vapor Trails tour (the "comeback" show) and at the time, that was the most emotion I ever felt at a Rush gig, for obvious reasons. This one nearly tops it...what a gig. When they played the second CA tune I was very much intrigued by the possiblity that they were gonna go "backwards". I wasn't sure they would ever do something like that but changing the stage as they went was genius...and then realizing the entire 2nd set was gonna be MP and prior, I just wasn't sure if we would get the "old" shit but boy was I wrong. Couldn't have dreamed of a better show. Suprised by some ommissions but they can't play them all...with La Villa being the one that really jumps out at me. My two holy grails where played, however...Jacobs Ladder and Xanadu (complete w/Doublenecks). Worth the price of admission. Throw in the others and the second set is insane, almost as insane as the dude who couldn't help his reactions, and his complete and utter disbelief at what he was hearing...I buried him slightly but frankly, when I listen back, it still chokes me up. The emotion was real. Hope you feel it too.

"Are you fucking kidding me??"...what else could I say?

To the greatest power trio ever, none will ever touch you - Thank you DIRK, LERXST and PRATT for 40+ years of incredible music, dedication, laughter, heartbreak and joy. I will never forget it.

It was great to meet up with the other Gaters at the gig, and to see others I've met over the years. It's always great to meet new Rush fans, putting a face with the name, and seeing the love for this band by its diehard fans. It's incredible, and it's another thing I'm gonna miss...Let's hope they find a way to plod on a little while longer...

Thanks to SiriusJoe for listening to the raw source and giving me the "recipe" for the master. I tweaked it only sligthly and it turned out very nice indeed.

There are no fades in the tracks so burn the way you want. Only a minor cut in the Mel's Rockpile Vid...I saved the file as my battery was reading low the entire second set but it survived. New batteries are in hand!

Ron's review:
This is the first full HYF show I obtained, and what a show it is. The set list is the same as it was for the entire tour - pretty much what you'd expect. But, it doesn't have some of the "doctoring" that exists on the ASOH live album, which in my opinion makes it better to have. This sounds like a very small hall, giving the show a more intimate feeling. The highlights here are the versions of Lock and Key, Prime Mover, and an HYF-era Limelight. This is one of the best audience ROIOs I've yet heard, rivaling even Fresno ë78 or Rotterdam ë92 (if you have these, you wíll know how good that is). One could almost imagine that these songs could have been placed on the ASOH album without needing any extra polishing. The signal level is unusually high for an ROIO, so there ís no annoying hum. The EQ is slightly bass-heavy, but that may be a plus, depending on how you like your music to sound. All instruments are very clearly audible. This is the definitive HYF show.

Comments
A very nice sounding SBD from the first night of the Philly shows. This show surfaced in mid '02 when released by Watch Tower, a relative newcomer to the bootleg world. They've been releasing some great Led Zeppelin shows and looks like they did a great job with this release and Echoes On The Stages (T4E rehearsal). The sound is very clear with nice stereo separation and a typical SBD mix. Personally, it's just tad bright for my taste, but who's complaining. Packaging on this boot is nice with a slipcover for the jewel case. WT goes for simplicity on their packaging and works well. There are few instances where the levels fluctuate very slightly on disc 2, otherwise it's almost perfect. I still prefer the mix of "Nuts & Bolts" (Madison '94) SBD over this one and it's the full show. This source is missing the encore.

I was amazed that this show was not on the tracker. I have checked carefully and I did not see it. This one does not come from any silver but from the broadcast, although I do not have infos about the generation. But I traded this back in 1994, so it should not be too high generation.

This is the first tour I attended from Rush. Then I had to wait another 12 years before seeing them again in the 30th anniversary tour. Roll the Bones is one of my favourite Rush albums and that tour was amazing as well. A real pity BBC did broadcast just an hour, but this sounds excellent (although some hiss is present) and no DJ comments between songs. Hope you will enjoy it.

Comment:
When "Visions and Illusions - Version 2.01" was released by Digital Reproductions in 2003, it was a big improvement over previous versions of this recordings in circulation. Sound quality was a lot better, and speed was corrected, all except for d1t10 (Red Sector A) which continued to play ~2% too slow. This release (version 2.02) has Red Sector A running at the right speed. Other than this one speed corrected track, it's identical to Digital Reproductions Visions and Illusions 2.01. Post reviews for this show at the Digital Rush Experience (link below).

This is one of those "wow" shows and one of the Rush must-haves. This is probably the best version to get of this show as it contains the ENTIRE concert, unlike the truncated 'Mystic Dreams,' and has speed-corrected all the tracks. The only detraction to this show and why it rates a 9.5 instead of a perfect 10 is that Alex is low in the mix. In fact, there are times when the keyboards are going full-bore like during 'Subdivisions' he gets absolutely buried. On the other hand, this is probably the BEST show to be awed by the dextrous majesty of Mr. Geddy Lee. Every note is crystal clear and you can hear parts that aren't always easy to pick out on album - listen for instance to the outro portion of 'New World Man' and then pick your jaw up off the floor. This bootleg easily ranks among the 10 best of Rush out there. Don't pass it by."

An otherwise great-sounding capture of an FM broadcast, "Bad Boys in Cleveland" played back audibly below pitch. Using a tuning app, I compared against official references to measure by how much, then adjusted the speed accordingly upwards so that it now plays at the correct pitch. I took no other liberties with the source. All respect and praise to everyone who had a hand in bringing the original edition to Rush fans! I humbly offer up a speed-corrected version for your enjoyment!

Ron's Rush RoIO Review
(Audio - 9)

The second Rush show offered exclusively on the alt.music.rush newsgroup. This is a great show from one of the band?s favorite venues. The boys do sound a bit tired here, and at times seem to be going through the motions. This is the best "Counterparts" show out there -- "Animated" is a bit too trebly and cut up. This is apparently the audio from a professionally shot video, so the sound is soundboard caliber. All the instruments sound great, as do Geddy?s vocals. A must for any collection. (1999-04-01)

Cary's Notes
(Audio - 9)

Not one of my favorite shows, simply because I prefer Bravado to the encore of Force Ten/YYZ. I guess it is the best recording of the encore from this tour though, considering that even the DAT from the April 26, 1994 Landover Maryland show didn't have Force Ten in the encore, only YYZ. You might want to seek out the video in addition to or in place of the CD set of this. Also, Critical Mass is the best audio source of this show, superior to Majestic Symphonies and May. Pieces of Eight is from a Modern Drummer soundpage (flexidisc vinyl), and appeared as a hidden track after the encore. (1999-04-01)

Another one of the best sounding bootlegs from the counterparts tour. This CD is pretty close but not quite the sound quality of Animated. This CD has the Encore -- Animated doesn't. Animated has Bravado -- This CD does not. This CD sounds a lot more "stereo" then Animated does. Take your pick... (1999-04-01)

Rush Trading Register
(Audio - 9)

Another boot from the successful Counterparts tour of the US in 1994 - recorded at The Palace of Auburn Hills, MI on March 22nd 1994. Like Animated it's a soundboard recording, but this time you get the entire show. Audio quality not quite as good as the aforementioned CD, - this is in mono - but for my money the instrument separation is better and with more bass. The performances are, as always, almost faultless with some superb musicianship being displayed on Leave That Thing Alone in particular. It also sounds as if the band really enjoyed this concert - something I can say with confidence as I have seen a video of this show. Alex's microphone antics at the beginning of Stick It Out and during Closer To The Heart are just wild. The original source for this boot is interesting. That video I mentioned is a pro-shot affair, although the editing is a bit amateurish and Rush obviously recorded the show for a video release or something. (Does anybody have more info on this? - Ed). and I suspect that the original source for the audio was this video soundtrack. Released as a limited edition and now out of print, getting hold a copy might prove difficult. However there are enough collectors with CD-R machines, or PC's with CD-writers, out there and you should be able to acquire a copy, at least on cassette, through trading. (1999-04-01)

Jordan
(Audio - 9.5)

Absolutely superb recording! This is probably good enough to be passed as an official live album, the quality is so good. (But it's not. ONLY FOR FREE TRADE.) The Analog Kid from this boot appeared on Different Stages (official live album), so that just goes to show how great this boot really is. I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed (or if it was just my copy?) but at the end of Limelight on disc 1 when it's fading out, you can hear Mystic Rhythms starting. Oh well, I fixed it anyway. Definitely an essential Rush bootleg! (2007-08-30)

Aramis K.V.A.
(Audio - 8.5)

Due to the two sources used, Critical Mass tricks you because of the differences in the sound quality from song to song. You can perceive that some are clearer than others are. However, once you watch the videos available from this venue, you might go for the audio. At least by listening you get a different perspective in terms of energy that the video does not give; the guys are somewhat static on stage and it does not provide an appropriate scope of their performance. Going to the boot, although Geddy is very clear, right in front of you in some of the songs, the instruments are a little distant. Besides, there are some details in the edition to be mentioned: the intro of “Time Stands Still” is tracked in “Cold” file, and then repeated in its corresponding one. The sound changes again for “Roll the Bones”, and with “Limelight” “Mystic Rhythms” is introduced as a fade out, but it starts again properly on disc two. Fortunately, there are other boots from this gig to be considered. (2008-03-04)

Producer Notes:
It's been a few years since the original VCD production of this title, and the 10th anniversary of this excellent concert it seems like a fitting time for this DVD release. There have been a few DVD-Rs of this show circulating in trading circles, even one borrowing the original VCD title, but this is the "official" AppleJack Studios produced version of the title.

And, although the title is the same and artwork is similarly updated from the VCD release, this is in actuality an all-new production. A different low-gen VHS copy of the in-house feed from the arena was used as the video source, generously contributed from the collection of "Gandalf". The video quality is superb, the colors are rich and full, the detail crisp, and only on a handful of occasions is the slightest hint that the video isn't a master copy. This picture looks as good on a big screen as it does on a small one, and if you have ever seen a video bootleg on big screen television, you understand what a compliment this is.

The audio is also excellent. Once again, it was sourced from the "Critical Mass" bootleg, but for this release it was nicely remastered by Rush-Signals productions and has a new fullness and bass presence that was somewhat lacking in the original bootleg audio. Collectors of other versions of this show will recall that there are 40-odd seconds missing from YYZ on the video feed; for this release, the audio was retained intact and a short slide show of stills is presented during this portion of the concert.

Thanks and credits go to Gandalf for donating the video source, to leegeddy for facilitating the donation, to Dave at Rush-Signals Productions for the fine audio remastering, and to Duley for another stellar job on the DVD cover and menu artwork. Please trade this production freely, it was made by fans for fans, and is never to be bought or sold.

There is a lot of chatter about this newly unearthed show.. Was it the 10th or was it the 11th? Hmmmmmm

From the guy that sent me the lossless version:
The only date record we have is the label on the reel to reel (and the words of the guy who recorded/found it). Neil, the radio station engineer who discovered this, said Rush had an opener named Slim Pickins and they kept the sets shorter at The Roxy to appease the townspeople with the noise and tomfoolery. How much of this is fact is lost in the 43+ years between now and then...at least as far as combing the Internet showed me...There doesn't appear to be any historical archive of The Roxy and it's earlier days of musical glory anywhere...
So the tape said March 10, 1975 and that's all I can say...

Comments and Reviews:

The Digital Dan
(Audio - 8.5)

Ah, finally the soundboard from the Worcester show has been found, this time a much better source! So this release is much better than "A Tale of Two" and highly recommended. While it is not as good as "Darkness and Light" and "Animated", it is still quite good and sounds excellent. It is still from an analog source so there is a little hiss, nothing out of the ordinary. Just hope that someday we will find the DAT source for this show. The only other detraction is that there is a weird tape problem at the very end of "Double Agent" where the tape seemed like it was stretched. The funny thing is, it actually sounds like it could be an intentional way to end the song, though I doubt that would be true. Once again, it is only 3/4 of the show and we lose everything after the drum solo.

Ron's Rush RoIO Review
(Grade: A-)
This set is a relatively rare soundboard show. I’ ve heard folks rank this one up there with “ Mirrors,” but really, it’s nowhere near that good. The problem is that there’s a lot of crossfading, which really detracts from the overall package. It’s still a good show, worthy of a high grade, but this is NOT the definitive Counterparts show. Also, the last half hour of the concert is missing.
