10. The end
Though labeled an audience recording, this was in fact recorded through the school's PA system by a faculty member. The sound quality, however, is comparable to a very good audience recording. Unlike bootleg releases of this show, this tape has no cuts during "Break On Through" and contains Jim Morrison's complete introduction to "The End."

05. The end (cut)
Nice low generation copy of this show. The end of "Back Door Man" is cut as is the beginning of "The End." For years, there was uncertainty as to the actual date of this performance. Collectors originally listed it as November 19, 1967 and then later as July 9, 1967. The date has finally been confirmed as November 3, 1967 after a fan recently discovered an old newspaper ad for the show. Another mystery solved!

04. Alabama song (Whisky bar)
05. Light my fire
Problems with the PA system force The Doors to end this show early despite Jim Morrison's claim to the audience that they would be right back. The actual date and venue for this recording are uncertain. It does seem likely that it was taped in the summer of 1967 rather than in December. Some believe this show may be from the Kaiser Dome on July 4, 1967 as it was a venue on the same grounds as the larger Swing Auditorium; however, reviews of that show do not mention any PA problems and all say The Doors put on a great show. This tape simply does not match those reviews. While not conclusive, I'm hesitant to relabel this show at this time.

The Doors were on the bill with Otis Redding for these December shows at the Winterland. Sadly, Redding was killed in a plane crash only two weeks before they happened. During "When The Music's Over," Jim Morrison debuts his "Poor Otis" lyric which will later be used as the introduction to the song "Runnin' Blue."

A rare alternate source recording that includes an uncut version of "Who Do You Love" and a longer version of "Light My Fire" (almost 9 minutes). Unfortunately, this source contains cut versions of other songs (it's also missing "Wake Up") and is slightly worse quality than the first source. The opening track features the tapers discussing how to work the recording device.

Following the death of frontman Jim Morrison, the Doors continued on as an active recording and performing unit for a brief period. With Ray Manzarek now the band's main focal point, the Doors released two classic albums ("Other Voices" in 1971 and "Full Circle" in 1972) and toured. This performance is apparently the only professional document remaining of this sadly obscure period and was filmed for German television. The Doors perform songs old and new and thus this very good-quality video is essential for Doors fans as it presents a rarely seen chapter.

Supposedly taped by Bruce Botnick for personal purposes.
"There are two versions circulating of this show, made from the same tape but through different transfers. The "Doors Collector Magazine" source, which is originated from the master is the most complete and has all the songs, but still comes with missing a couple of things. The other, 2nd generation copy floating around is less complete than the DCM copy but the sound is slightly better, not that bassy. Though it cuts up Mystery Train and 'The End' but leaves 'When The Music's Over' intact - the DCM copy fades out & in again in the silent part "What have they done to the earth..." and repeats the missing part (probably made during the copy of the tape due to a tape flip)." christophe
"I've put a copy of "The Doors On The Road" by Greg Shaw which will give you some informations about this performance. The recording was probably done by the Doors enginer Bruce Botnick on personal material, so it's not a soundboard recording but not really an audience one and it's quality is very good. I've got it from DCM before the Doors management ask Kerry Humpherys to stop his trades, except for the post Morrison's shows.
I've got it in a trade in 2004 from the "Doors Collector Magazine"." hugodemeline
NOTES
Excperts taken from Stephen Davis' book on Jim Morrison p370-371:
"In April 1970, the Doors went back out on the road in three-day weekend bursts. "We could tell his energy was giving out," Ray said later in a radio interview. "He was really depleting his energy with alcohol." but they all needed cash-Densmore had bought a house, and Themis was bleeding Jim dry. Some of the shows were ragged, a few were desperate. "The first night would be OK," Ray said. "The second night he was drinking during the show. By Sunday night he was mostly hanging on the mike," trying to stay upright.
...
Next weekend: Honolulu Convention Center, April 18. Someone brought "da kine" backstage, "Maui Wowie," the most potent marijuana known to man. The Doors played for two hours in an inspired ganja trance. Jim stopped "Roadhouse Blues" because he didn't like the lighting. He started singing "Love hides in the strangest places," a riff that he kept performing that year. After the jam "People Get Ready/Mystery Train/Away In India/Cross Roads/People Get Ready," Jim launched into "Baby, Please Don't Go." The encore of this stoned soul picnic was "The End," interrupted for a poetry reading: "Stop The Car/Ensenada/Coda Queen." The audience cheered for ten minutes after the band left the stage, but there was no encore. Two days later Jim was acquitted of assault charges when the Continental Airlines stewardess testified that she had made a mistake in identifying him as the man who had harrassed her."

Notes:
After The Doors had returned from their two day concert at Chet Helm's Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, they were booked in to play at the Matrix Club, situated at 3138 Fillmore Street, San Francisco. The Doors played there from Tuesday, March 7 until Saturday, March 11 performing three sets a night with fifteen minute breaks in between each set. The Doors were scheduled to play at the Matrix Club from "9.30 p.m - 2a.m." with "Minors welcome", as advertised in the San Francisco Chronicle.
The owner of this club, Marty Balin, vocalist of Jefferson Airplane, had installed a reel to reel tape recorder to tape his own group, but The Doors took up the opportunity and decided to record their own performances as well. All of the three sets that were played on Tuesday night were recorded. Unfortunately on Friday night, after The Doors had completed their second set and returned to play the third set, the sound engineer had apparently forgotten to turn on the tape recorder and only got to record the last portion of "The End".
These recordings at present are the most complete recordings available in their entirety with no over dubbing or shoddy recordings, just in the same way The Doors had played them during
their one week performance in March. By far, these shows are one of the best live recordings that The Doors have ever recorded.

Got this tape from Chung@ (if I remember his user name correctly) back in the STG days to convert from his 1st/2nd Gen VHS to DVD (Tape might be slightly higher Gen than that... looks pretty good though). STG closed down before he had a chance to seed it. I'm not sure if it ever got shared so here is the DVD I put together for him. It seems to be sourced from the closed circuit feed rather than the TV broadcast. This is all the info I can give about the tape or the performances, as I'm not a big fan of any of the groups.

Notes
Here are both of The Doors' 1968 Stockholm shows on 2 CDs. They were originally broadcast on Stockholm's Radiothuset radio station. The first CD contains the complete early show recording and comes from three different bootleg sources. The opening track is from "The Beautiful Die Young" LP which has a few extra seconds before the announcer comes on. The bulk of the show comes from the "Live In Stockholm 1968" CD release. The bass was really high on this bootleg so I did some slight EQing to bring the bass down and bring up the high ends. I also swapped the channels to match up with the Stockholm master tapes and to match with the late show recording. The last track from the early show comes from the "Apocalypse Now" bootleg and has been speed-corrected. Note on the early show: Jim's mic cuts out during "When The Music's Over" due to a technical glitch on the original recording and his vocals are buried for most of the song.
The second CD contains the complete late show recording and comes from a speed-corrected version of the "Apocalypse Now" bootleg. I also did some amplification to get the best sound.
These both seem to be the best sources currently available for the Stockholm shows. The Doors have yet to release these shows because they still seem to be working out a deal with Swedish Radio for the rights. Until then, these bootleg recordings are the best we have.

A rare audience recording from 1969 (rare in the sense that few recordings from 1969 exist since The Doors didn't play many shows in the aftermath of the Miami incident). This is a first generation recording. There are a few bootlegs out there that feature songs from this night and none of them sound quite this good. The drums come through terrifically and Jim's vocals are right up in the mix. The guy who taped this show must have been right near the stage.
This show contains a unique "Back Door Man" medley where Jim includes lyrics from "Roadhouse Blues" and "Maggie M'Gill." Definitely worth a listen. Though only 7 tracks, the show lasts for about an hour thanks in part to a long version of "The End," where Jim explains how proud he feels to be performing "on the same stage with so many illustrious musical geniuses."
Unfortunately, while much of the festival was filmed, it doesn't appear that The Doors' set was (rumors persist that footage exists but no concrete information has ever surfaced). The Doors were the last to go on that night after John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band, and by all accounts, the camera crew was already packing its gear by then. The only footage that's known to exist are shots of The Doors arriving in their car during the opening sequence to D.A. Pennebaker's 1972 film "Sweet Toronto." Watch the opening here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4DcJSjR8K8) and see if you can spot Ray and Jim at about the 2:50 mark (Jim is in the front passenger seat with his back to the camera; Ray is directly behind him and spots the camera).

Notes:
Dust out your Doors collection. Finally, from the vault of an anonymous Doors fan, comes a previously unsurfaced audio recording. Consider it a surprise present to Doors fans on Jim Morrison's birthday.
For years, The Doors' performance at the Isle Of Wight has only been available in an edited or incomplete form. The most popular release, "Palace Of Exile," is missing over a minute in the middle of "The End" and the intro to "When The Music's Over" is severly edited. Audience recordings of the show are missing "Roadhouse Blues." Previously on this site someone offered a matrix of the audience and soundboard sources in order to recreate the complete concert in the best quality available. Now for the first time, we have a master DAT source for the COMPLETE Isle Of Wight concert in perfect soundboard quality. At almost 70 minutes total, this is as good as it gets until an official release gets made -- if one is ever made.
This comes direct from the multi-track master recording. Quality is near perfect. The only downside is that the stereo separation isn't very good. It sounds like it's an unmixed copy of the multi-track master. So you'll hear Ray's organ more in the center than it should be and Ray's vocals are mixed way down so you don't hear them at all during "Break On Through" and other songs. (A good thing for some?) Still, I would place the overall quality as better than "Palace Of Exile." Little to no hiss. Bass level is much more reasonable. Sharper sound quality overall.
Now just what did I do to the original recording before posting it here? Thankfully, not much. There were a handful of clicks/pops throughout the recording that I removed individually using Adobe Audition. (The glitch during the announcer's introduction is on the original tape and couldn't be repaired without cutting it down.) I also swapped the channels so that Robby's guitar is in the right channel where it should be. The biggest change I made was balancing the channel levels and bringing everything up. This small change really punched up the sound compared to the original transfer. There was no EQ or other tricky business involved. Sounds pretty damn good, if I do say so myself. If anyone wants the original transfer, I'm open to trades.
One small note: About 4:29 into "The End," the music drops out for about 5 seconds and you only hear Jim's voice. Not sure why, but "Palace" doesn't have this mixing error. Also, regarding the date of this performance: The Doors were scheduled to play on August 29th, Saturday night, but didn't actually get on stage until 2:00am on Sunday morning, August 30th. Hence the date I have listed. (Date information taken from Greg Shaw's book, The Doors On The Road.)

Firstly, please note that my copy of this show does not contain the "Love Me Two Times > Baby Please Don't Go > St James Infirmary" used on the Bright Midnight set. That is either on the missing second reel mentioned below (but which the band still presumably have) or that track is actually from the following night at the San Diego Sports Arena. I have that show, but it isn't a stage recording as used on Bright Midnight, it's an awful sounding audience recording (even though it's a 2nd gen), probably the worst sounding Doors show I have.
Anyway, back to this show. This is a stage recording made by the band's road manager. The original notes I got with this show are below. I'm a little confused as it says it's a 2nd gen at the top but then claims it's a 1st gen lower down so I don't know which is right. Either way it sounds pretty good and it's in stereo.

Great show. This is the third and final concert taped by road manager Vince Treanor. Vince used a Sony TC-630 stereo tape recorder running at 3 3/4 ips with a pair of AKG-D1000E cardioid microphones placed on either side of the stage to capture the audio from the vocal and instrument amps. This copy is an uncirculated 1st gen source with "Mystery Train" in stereo (circulating copies feature the song in mono). The first few seconds of "Roadhouse Blues" are cut.
This is only the first reel of the recording. The unsurfaced second reel is said to contain "Light My Fire" and "The End".
