Notes by the trader:
I think the original recording was made with Dolby off since the tape is not marked 'Dolby B or C on' as was my custom. Since it is a little hissy, I took the liberty of applying some very slight noise (hiss) reduction using BIAS Sound Soap. If anyone wants the recording without this processing please contact me and I'd be happy to oblige. I usually am against offering original recordings with any processing but I was very light-handed here, plus I am keeping a copy of the transfer without noise reduction should there be reason to do anything with it in the future.

The venue for this show was The Cotati Cabaret in Cotati, CA. It was a small club that held about 300 people. Cotati is a small town located about an hour north of San Francisco. The Cabaret was an outgrowth of another venue that had been across the street called The Inn of The Beginning, a resurrected version of which has since 'risen from the ashes' once or twice since the 80's.

Cotati is next to Sonoma State University, which was called Granola State University back in the days. SSU is where the great recording of Old & In The Way with Ramblin' Jack Elliott opening was made in 1973. There is a great poster of the O&ITW show, my copy of which is long gone :<(

The master was recorded by the sound man, not a dedicated taper, and is unfortunately all that exists since as far as I know a part 2 master was not recorded.  My Dat was copied from the cassette master soon after the show happened.

Due to low original record levels it's a bit hissy-sounding in a few quieter spots but when the music's going it all sounds fairly excellent - check the samples to decide for yourself.

Though not up to the quality of the revelatory 1971 Fillmore East show with the Real Thing lineup, this solo acoustic show from the following year has more than its share of inspired moments to recommend it.  In addition to the many songs in the set which have become synonymous with Mr. Taj's career, songs like "Fannie Mae", "Annie's Lover" (which originally appeared on the solo disc of the Giant Step album LP) and "Put Your Foot On The Rock" - which appears to be a largely improvised performance - are joyous surprises.

TT: 93 min

Formed in 1969 by "six meta-music creators & one electronic engineer", this group created stunning cosmic music which was always entirely improvised. The ensemble regularly played throughout Japan and was best known for events such as playing all day at a beach in Kanagawa. In 1971, they made their first tour of Europe, meeting up with Don Cherry, among others. The following year, they returned, but with a twist. From Rotterdam, they drove an old Volkswaggon bus all the way to Pakistan, picking up santoor [a type of dulcimer instrument] on the way in Iran. Finding the border between Pakistan and India closed, they sold the bus and flew to India - finally travelling to the Taj Mahal. Upon
their return to Japan, they played a benefit concert on July 15, 1972, to help pay for their return to the U.K. This concert was recorded and issued as the first of their two LPs. Though playing for television and radio many times, both in Japan and Europe, and playing many concert and festivals, their next record did not come until 1975. Recorded in August of 1974, this would prove to be the last official release by the group, which started to come apart later in 1975. After the group disbanded, almost all of the members stopped their involvement with music and disappeared. The notable exception was Takehisa Kosugi, who continues to be active to this day. Also, in recent years, the youngest member of the group, Seiji Nagai has returned from India and become active with electronic music again. In addition to these core members, the group was joined by occasional guests such as Hirokazu Sato and
