These are all really great- the composition, the movement, the subject matter and narratives. Sometimes weird crop ratios can look like they're masking bad composition at the lens, but everything else about this set is done so skillfully that the mix of crops looks more like it's intentional than just meant to hide bad photography.

starting a new one since the last one is reaching limit

I recently bought myself a new softbox, the exact one in pic, and it works surprisingly well. The issue is that it won't stay open all the way, so I need something to prop it open. I've found that using a credit card and ID card work pretty well, but I don't plan on using that for obvious reasons. Anyone have any suggestions to help a retard like me, something light and small?

can you burn mirrorless sensors the same way you can fuck up rangefinders? i know with DSLRs it's retard proof because all the light just goes right out the back of the camera but mirrorless it's either always open or has a metal shutter in front. is this even a problem or do you have to leave you shit pointing directly upward at midday before it does any damage?
>>
>>4510028
Yes, but it's rarer than you might think. Laser damage is far more common. Nothing to worry about for general shooting.
For the sun, you'd generally have to leave it pointed with a strong telephoto. I have seen an instance where the suns reflection on a shiny car fender made a pinpoint of light that started to burn a sensor facing that direction that was recording 4k (heat).
I have also seen at least one DSLR RIP from the sun too, left on a tripod with a 50mm f1.2 for like 15 minutes facing towards the sun.

Any zoo enjoyers?
Do you swap out your lenses depending on where you are in the zoo?
Do you use a telephoto for the large exhibits, then switch to a smaller lens when you go into the smaller/indoor exhibits?
Or do you just use one lens and make due

panasonic hasn't released a brick shaped 4/3 body for nearly a decade, that's why everyone is so hyped..

Also the EVFs in those old models were the crappy sequential color LCD. L10 has a decent OLED.

I hope they release L10 with a m4/3 mount.

Some people say that to get rich you gotta do what others don't wanna do. For a photographer it means going to a warzone.
What are some other fields in photography that can make you rich and famous but you just hate doing it?
5 replies and 1 image omitted. Click here to view.

>>4504461
You'll start at the bottom and the bottom in my mind is real estate photography. Talk to some real estate agents in your area and ask about who they hire, as they likely hire a small local company, then just talk to that company about getting a job. You will make shit pay and shit hours because you're basically a peon but it's a foot in the door.
>>
>>4504446
Not famous, but you can be rich doing product photography since most online sellers don't focus on it.
>>
>>4504446
all decent paying work is soul sucking if you want to make art
>>
>>4504446
Get in contact with real estate companies.
Offer to do the first 5 houses for free just to make a portfolio; then you can see if they're willing to pay. If not then you have something to shop yourself out with.
>>
>>4510297
This. But be warned, other real estate photographers can be really aggressive about their business and don't want anybody else muscling in. The rivalry is insane. I was with one local photography company and ended up with a clause in my contract that had me agree to not work in that industry again within a 100 mile radius for 2 years if I left.

I have an RX100II I got for free and never use it, anything that small I'd rather just use my phone, and even with X100, I'd be adding a grip
The only pocket cameras I've ever felt worth it has been a Mju II
I'm just so used to using normal sized cameras as edc picks that I just have a need to go much smaller

Well it's better than any phone, significantly so unless you have one of those new monstrosities that cost over a grand. Even just having an EVF is a big deal, as is not running down the phone battery (even more so if you crank the display brightness to see when it's sunny out). They do an add on grip for the RX100 that makes it better to hold while not affecting the pocketability, it's so light it doesn't take much.

>Well it's better than any phone
True, but you know what's better than it? A real camera, so I just bring that if I care about taking photos.
>Even just having an EVF is a big deal
Yes, which is why I appreciate even better ones on cameras.
>as is not running down the phone battery
100% a non-issue lol
>They do an add on grip for the RX100
Yes, I have sold many of them. My RX100 has picrel too, still never use it.
>>
>>4510320
If you can just take your "real" camera everywhere then cool, but not everyone can in every situation (conveniently). I ride a motorcycle so if I'm going to a show or exploring then I can stuff the RX100 easily in my jacket pocket and not even notice it's there, meanwhile my A7 is swinging around on a strap. I go some places not even knowing if I'll want to take any photos, but it's so little hassle to take it with me I'll do it just in case and I end up with better photos than I'd get with my phone.

I'm not trying to say you should only have a pocket camera over a "real" one, just that for some people both have their place. An X100 however isn't going to go into as many pockets so many people are just going to be putting them on a strap, and in that case it's not much more hassle to just take the "real" camera.
>>
>>4510323
You go girl

Color doesn't matter.

Today when you can adjust colors just by pressing a button there's nothing more fake than a color.

You should only shot B&W.

Black and White photography is real and pure. Shape, shadow and light - this is what makes your photography look special, not some bright oversaturation. If your picture looks good without colors then your picture is worthy

Shoot for light contrast and it won't look boring.

If you shoot boring flat subjects then it's going to look bad. Which is where colour can help by bringing attention to your subject.

>iPhone to monochrome and get better results
I'm not much into specs and all but is this really true? Talking even outside on iphone sized screens. Whenever I look at iphone photos on my 4k monitor they seem rather bad. But I have the iphone 13 which is kinda old already.

But the ricoh sensor is still quite bigger isn't it
>>
>>4509235

of course not, phones are inherently bottom barrel, they get truckloads of shilling since they are by far the most profitable dogshit ever and spies on you with over 7 ais now, also that there fake res via ai upscaling

Since I'm unlikely to ever get any kind of Xpan camera, I thought it might be interesting to post some wide crops from two cheap digicams and a phone (Fuijfilm J20, JX500 and Nokia Lumia 520) taken over the last few years. The JX500 has a scratched lens but nice colours and I think it does OK.

Some of these I've posted before, some I haven't.

Do you have a favourite camera? If so, what is it? Why is it your favourite? I want to hear!

I'll start, I think for me it's a Nikon FM. I like it because it's always worked for me, I know how to fix it when something goes wrong, it's well made and it has a CdS meter. Lenses are easy to find, as are batteries. I got it for very cheap and it was already quite banged up so I never feel I have to be overly careful with it, which makes it an easy choice to bring with me.

I really wish these had a popup flash so there was a reason to choose them over the F5 or the F80. The matrix metering is really good. You dont even have to fuck around metering for shadows it just knows.

I get all my cameras from my garbage dump job. My favourites is my fujifilm cool pix and my olympus mu2, but that one got something funny going on in the lense that makes it have a weird glare on the bottom of each pic. It looks cool though.

I've been figuring out which camera body and lens to get. I want something that takes really nice pictures. Over the years I asked /p/ a few times, but each time they just ranted about consumerism and skills and how only the elect are worthy of nice things

Can someone just give me some real world recommendations? Based on cameras and lenses you have or have used.

No. Unless youre shooting f/1.0 on a FF mirrorless brick, modern day smartphones are 99% as good and will even take better pics instantly as they dont require manual editing.

OP, R6 MII is an absolutely excellent camera. I don't even want to upgrade to MIII despite better video options (i might get C50 just as dedicated video camera).

Autofocus is apparently second best to sony, but I still find it loses eyes all the time and has trouble getting them back, especially when shooting kids who are always moving around.
>>
>>4505251
>Over the years

Bro, just set a budget and buy something.
The differences between cameras and lenses in each budget is negligible.

If you want a starting point. Just buy a Sony APS-C or Olympus OM-D that's in your price range. If you want to take pictures of birds and animals, get a m4/3 with long focal length. If you want to take pictures of people and the city, get a short one.

You are not going to be out performing the gear as a noob. The nuanced differences between lenses and bodies are going to be lost on you.
