At The Gates - The Red In The Sky Is Ours

Genre: Death
Country: Sweden
Year: 1992

1. The Red In The Sky Is Ours / The Season To Come

10. City Of Screaming Statues

Debut album by At The Gates. This album is a bit hard to digest at first for someone not  familiar with melodic death metal because of it's harsh and strange breed of vocals and poor production quality. These guys were radically different from many of their peers in the scene, making use of much more bizarre riffs and compositional approach. This is certainly their most complex offering and a true classic.

Debut album by Autopsy, a band created by Chris Reiffert, after leaving Death. The album was very influential for future death metal acts. It was also a pioneer of gore lyrics and one of the first examples of the death/doom genre, although it is more death metal than death/doom. Lyrically the band thrives heavily on horror and gore concepts. All the songs have a great atmosphere, they’re played with an almost punkish attitude.

3rd album by Birdflesh. It is essentially pure old-school grind worship in the vein of Napalm Death, with lots of heavy riffing, blastbeats and really short songs, but Birdflesh tends to do it in an enjoyable manner beyond what one would expect. The riffing is usually very straightforward and easy to follow. The arrangements of the riffs and drum work will keep your head banging and blood pressure rising.
