1. First Among Equals

3. Citizen Soldier
4. Holocaust (Fall In Grace)
5. Abuse
6. Overcome
7. Foot From The Edge

Living Death - Worlds Neuroses

Genre: Thrash
Country: Germany
Year: 1989

1. Last Birthday
2. Die Young
3. Schizophrenia
4. On The 17th Floor
5. Down
6. Worlds Neuroses
7. Bastard (At The Busstop)
8. The Testament Of Mr. George
9. Sacred Chao
10. Tuesday

4th album by Living Death. There are some differences compared to their earlier releases. Bergmann's screaming is missing, but there are plenty of great riffs, pounding drums and their well-known way of thrash. The production is quite good, perhaps the best in their career.

Testament - Practice What You Preach

Genre: Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 1989

1. Practice What You Preach
2. Perilous Nation
3. Envy Life
4. Time Is Coming
5. Blessed In Contempt
6. Greenhouse Effect
7. Sins Of Omission
8. The Ballad
9. Nightmare (Coming Back To You)
10. Confusion Fusion

3rd album by Testament. It introduced a wider array of lyrical topics, vocal styles and guitar melodies to their already impressive formula. They chose to change their style towards maybe a bit more "accessible" format and the output was destined to divide opinions.

Hydra Vein - After The Dream

Genre: Thrash
Country: England
Year: 1989

1. 7-U-S-C
2. Pro Patria
3. Born Through Ignorance
4. Passed Present / No Future
5. Turning Point
6. After The Dream

2nd album by Hydra Vein. It sounds very much the same as the group's debut and a tiny bit more aggressive than before. Mid-paced british thrash at its finest, with an excellent artwork, nice production and with 6 thrashers clocking near 30 minutes.

Mortal Sin - Face Of Despair

Genre: Thrash
Country: Australia
Year: 1989

1. I Am Immortal
2. Voyage Of The Disturbed
3. The Infantry Corps
4. For Richer For Poorer
5. Martyrs Of Eternity
6. Innocent Torture
7. Suspended Animation
8. H
9. Terminal Reward
10. Robbie Soles

2nd album by Mortal Sin. This release has a lot of noteworthy riffing here and there, but only a few songs are real gems. It seems the group has lost the debut's aggression and came closer to Bay Area sound, loosing some of their authenticity. Nevertheless, it is still a solid thrash album.

Paradox - Heresy

Genre: Thrash/Speed/Power
Country: Germany
Year: 1989

1. Heresy
2. Search For Perfection
3. Killtime
4. Crusaders Revenge
5. The Burning
6. Massacre Of The Cathars
7. Serenity
8. 700 Years On
9. Castle In The Wind

2nd album by Paradox. It was by far their most popular effort up to that point and the album that put them on the metal map. There is more melodic riffing, compared to their debut, and here, Paradox churned together Bay Area-oriented thrash with power metal most successfully.

Onslaught - In Search Of Sanity

Genre: Thrash/Heavy
Country: England
Year: 1989

1. Asylum
2. In Search Of Sanity
3. Shellshock
4. Lightning War
5. Let There Be Rock (AC/DC cover)
6. Blood Upon The Ice
7. Welcome To Dying
8. Power Play

The 3rd album by Onslaught, found them changing for a third time their vocalist (after their label's request for more mainstream vocals). Steve Grimmett (Grim Reaper) gives his best in a solid record, where the band has lost their earlier aggression and thrashiness. Of course, thrashers of that era got dissappointed by these movements and that was, probably, the reason of their split up.

King Diamond - Conspiracy

Genre: Heavy/Speed
Country: Denmark
Year: 1989

1. At The Graves
2. Sleepless Nights
3. Lies
4. A Visit From The Dead
5. The Wedding Dream

7. Something Weird
8. Victimized
9. Let It Be Done
10. Cremation

4th album by King Diamond and the 2nd part of the sequel, following 'Them'. It is just all-out speed metal at its very best. It is an absolute gem that is a fantastic combination of King's high-pitched vocals, Andy La Rocque and Pete Blakk's shred fest and the amount of rhythm and tempo changes in the songs.

5. Telemania
6. Touch The Light

2nd album by Scanner. The major difference with their successful debut is the replacement of Michael Knoblich with S.L. Coe, behind the mic. Elsewhere, Terminal Earth is quite a close successor to Hypertrace, with fans arguing about the better voice! Catchy, happy speed/power of high quality!

5. Curse Of Reality
6. Twilight Zone (Lord Fouls Hort)
7. Shades Of Doom
8. The Jester
9. El Colibri

3rd album by Mekong Delta. It is, without a doubt, one of the band's most technical as well as diverse recordings. They have some of the best early progressive thrash songwriting, strangely catchy ideas and riffs and truly strange and ominous soundscapes.

Dark Angel - Leave Scars

Genre: Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 1989

1. The Death Of Innocence
2. Never To Rise Again
3. No One Answers
4. Cauterization
5. Immigrant Song (Led Zeppelin cover)
6. Older Than Time Itself
7. Worms
8. The Promise Of Agony
9. Leave Scars

Dark Angel's 3rd album introduced Ron Rinehart as the band's new vocalist, who's style is not significantly different from Don Doty's. This release shows definite progression in band's style. This is where Dark Angel found the perfect balance of raging thrash and their more proggish tendencies. Imagine the breakneck speeds and killer riffs of 'Darkness Descends' mixed with more varied tempos and ambitious song structures.

4. Surrender
5. Hot Fever
6. Tyrants
7. Path Of Glory
8. Shadows
9. This Flight Tonight (Joni Mitchell cover)

Debut album by Heavens Gate. In the vein of early Helloween, the band managed to develop their own identity and produced a release of solid teutonic heavy/power metal. Melodic riffing, in times epic with a magnificent singer, Thomas Rettke.

Obituary - Slowly We Rot

Genre: Death
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 1989

1. Internal Bleeding
2. Godly Beings
3. 'Til Death
4. Slowly We Rot

6. Gates To Hell
7. Words Of Evil
8. Suffocation
9. Intoxicated
10. Deadly Intentions
11. Bloodsoaked
12. Stinkupuss

Debut album by Obituary. The violence here expressed by these young musicians was an example for the generation of deathsters to come. Everything here is so obscure, sick and brutal, starting from the bestial, animalistic John Tardy’s vocals. First project for legendary producer Scott Burns.

Overkill - The Years Of Decay

Genre: Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 1989

1. Time To Kill
2. Elimination
3. I Hate
4. Nothing To Die For
5. Playing With Spiders / Skullkrusher
6. Birth Of Tension
7. Who Tends The Fire
8. The Years Of Decay
9. E.vil N.ever D.ies

4th album by Overkill. This is one of Overkill's more varied albums. The style they started to develop on 'Under The Influence' is here perfected. A core of dark, heavy and violent thrash riffs keeps kicking you in the face, yet remain that melodic touch. The songs are always long and quite complicated in their riffs.

24. Oo Er, I've Got A Sore Throat

Split album by two representatives of the british crossover/thrash, Lawnmower Deth and Metal Duck. This was for both bands their very first official release. Very primitive crossover filled with thrash elements and humour, that parodies death and thrash metal. The production sucks a bit, but the whole result worths some listens.

The album is loaded with all the characteristic attributes of the genre, from deadly riffs to solid drumming. The production is superior to their earlier attempts, being more clear and more even in the mix.
