Blast beats, Ivar Bjørnson's brilliant riffs, atmospheric keyboards, some folk-ish parts here and there, Nordic mythical lyrics, Grutle Kjellson's impressive vocals and a "crazy" Trym Torson behind the drum-kit. Debut album by Satyricon. Occult norwegian black metal from the early 90s, cold and grim guitars with upbeat drumming and old school blasphemic vocals. This entire album resonates with a feeling of ominous darkness and almost dream-like atmosphere. Genuine medieval darkness is here, dark castles, evil forests, otherworlds, the plague and cold are all present on this album.

2nd album by Amorphis. Music on this album is doomy death metal, with a lot of folkish influences on guitar and keyboard melodies and there is a little bit progressive elements showing on song structures. There are smooth and atmospheric growls that have improved since the first album and from time to time clean male vocals. The lyrics are mostly adapted from a traditional Finnish national poem.
