Architecture challenge

My favourite workspace  

Al weer meer dan een jaar geleden ontving ik deze Bali Batiks van Vreni:

vrolijke kleuren, de meeste in 2,5" strips en 2 grotere stukken. Het werd eeen uitdaging om er iets leuks mee te maken

Over a year ago I received this beautiful stack of Bali Batiks from Vreni:

bright and colourful fabrics, most in 2.5" strips and 2 pieces came in a bigger size.

It became a challenge to make an interesting piece out of it

In Chili begon ik met het aan elkaar naaien van de strips, daarna in een hoek van 30 graden gesneden en in verschillende samenstellingen op tafel gelegd. Helaas zijn deze foto's in niet al te beste kleuren

I started sewing the strips together, cutting them in a 30 degrees corner and placing the strips in different sequences. Sorry for the bad colours in these pictures!

Ik was er niet happy mee en dit project kwam in de UFO hoek terecht...

It didn't work for me and so it got stuck in the UFO corner...

In de afgelopen maand, tussen alle bezoekjes aan familie en vrienden in Nederland, heb ik het weer tevoorschijn gehaald en ben er weer mee gaan spelen

This past month while being back in my home country I picked it up again 

and started playing with it again

Mooi op tijd klaar voor de tentoonstelling van miniatuur-quilts van het Quiltersgilde

met als thema Architectuur! Van 10 tot 12 maart te zien in de Regenboogkerk in Hilversum!

Ready! Just in time for the exhibition of miniature quilts in Hilversum, Holland, with the Dutch Quilters' Guild. The theme is Architecture.

So long, Santiago

Daar gaat ons bed, mijn werktafel en nog veel meer;

alles wat niet mee gaat naar Ghana is verkocht. Opgeruimd staat netjes, zullen we maar zeggen ;)

Ik hoop alleen dat deze spullen op het dak zijn blijven zitten onderweg naar de nieuwe eigenaar...

Everything, that is not coming to Ghana with us, is sold:

our bed, my sewing table and a lot more. Good riddance ;)

I only hope this stuff has stayed on top of the car while driving to the new owner's place...

Op mijn allerlaatste dag in Santiago gaan we nog een keer naar het oude centrum

naar een buurtje met prachtige oude en vervallen panden uit 1920

On my last day in Santiago we visit the old city center one more time,

to an old neighbourhood with some old buildings from around the 1920's

Rond Plaza de Armas is het weer gezellig druk

There is always something to see around Plaza de Armas

Het is tijd om weer naar het hotel te gaan en de laatste spullen in de koffers te stoppen

Morgen maak ik weer de lange vlucht van 18 uur in de blauwe vogel

en vlieg ik weer naar 'huis' in Nederland

Time to go back to the hotel and pack the last things in my suitcases

Tomorrow I will make the long flight back to 'home' in Holland

Preparing the next move

 

Als je gaat verhuizen naar een ander land op een ander continent,

kun je de bij elkaar verzamelde kruiden, thee, wijn en drank niet meegeven met de verhuizer

dus je snapt dat het hier de laatste dagen erg gezellig is! Ja, schenk nog maar een keertje in! ;)

Ook de ijskast moet leeg en met de spullen uit de voorraadkast

 kan ik vast wel iemand blij maken

Niet vergeten de quilts van de muren te halen en op te vouwen,

die moeten ook mee met de verhuizer!

When moving to another country, on another continent,

all herbs 'n spices, teas, wine and liquors you collected, can't be shipped.

So you understand it is party of leftovers everyday at my place! Yes, pour me another wine please! ;)

The fridge has to be emptied and the pantry as well

Still someone will be very happy with all that is left over.

I should not forget to take down the quilts from the wall, they have to be shipped as well!

Mijn Sing-a-Long Singer is nagekeken en gaat ook mee:

er is daar dezelfde voltage dus ik kan er daar meteen weer mee aan de slag...

met Afrikaanse stoffen, made in Holland (Vlisco!)

Mijn huisjes quilt gaat mee in de koffer naar Nederland

My Sing-a-Long Singer has been serviced and is moving too:

the voltage in Ghana is the same as in Chile so I can start there right away

with the African fabrics, made in Holland(Vlisco!)

My little-house quilt  is coming with me to Holland in my suitcase

Waar en hoe we daar gaan wonen, ik heb nog geen idee!

Ik zie het wel als ik daar over 2 maanden naartoe ga

Eerst ga ik naar huis naar familie en vrienden

en op vakantie met mijn lief (alweer 31! jaar) P

Where and how we will live I have no idea!

I will see it when I get there, in 2 months time

First stop is Holland to be with my family and friends

and enjoy a long holiday with my love (of 31 years!) P

Fresh air in Pichilemu

Nog een keertje, echt voor de allerlaatste keer, want we komen hier echt nooit meer terug...

Hoewel... zeg nooit nooit!

Omdat de luchtvervuiling boven Santiago afgelopen weekend erg hoog was, zijn we even een nachtje richting de kust gegaan. Even frisse lucht happen, lekker eten en rondkijken

For the very last time, because we are quite sure we will never come back again

in this part of the world, but never say never!

Last weekend the smog above Santiago was really bad, so we decided to escape the city and drive up to the coast one more time. To breath fresh air, eat good food and enjoy the scenery

Ik ga Chili missen

De natuur is zo mooi en afwisselend en de mensen die we tegen komen zijn aardig

Het stemt mij weemoedig afscheid te moeten nemen

en niet te weten wat de volgende plaats ons zal bieden

Maar ik ben ook heel blij dat ik dit land een heel klein beetje heb mogen leren kennen

I am going to miss Chile

with it's stunning nature and kind people

I feel melancholy for what I leave behind

and not quite knowing what the next place has to offer

I am glad I've had the opportunity to get to know this country just a little bit more

Farewell Valpo

Voor de allerlaatste keer gaan we een dagje naar Valparaiso,

de havenstad, met fel gekleurde huisjes tegen de heuvels aangeplakt

en met het wijkje Concepción met leuke winkeltjes vol handgemaakte spullen

For the very last time we made a day trip to Valparaiso,

the port city, packed with colourful houses on the hills

and some lovely shops with handmade souvenirs in the historic quarter called Concepción

Deze gevilte dame met alpaca onder haar arm gaat mee naar huis

This felted lady, with an alpaca under her arm, is coming home with us

Nog even wat rondwandelen en genieten van de leuke doorkijkjes

One last view on the old houses and nice glimpses

Chili is op dit moment gastheer van de Copa América,

Als het voetbalteam van Chili speelt, is het doodstil op straat

En als ze winnen, ontploft het geluid!

Chile is hosting the Copa América and everybody is joining in

When the Chileans are playing, the streets are deserted

and when they win, the noise explodes!
