"Within hours after the attacks of Sept. 11, thousands of rescue workers from across America deployed to ground zero to help in the search and rescue efforts. Joining the endeavor were dogs specially trained in search and rescue, police work, therapy and comfort. It is estimated that more than 300 dogs took part in the search, rescue and recovery efforts at ground zero."   ~9/11 Memorial & Museum Staff           9/11 will forever be forged into memories. Next year will mark 25 years-a quarter of a century-since that horrific day in history. Babies born then are now adults. A whole generation does not even know the once-infamous New York City skyline with the Twin Towers proudly standing rising above it.   We will always remember the stories of those who left for work that morning, or boarded flights, like any other typical morning, never to return home. Remembering 9/11: Thirteen Years Later

"I walked out of the Trade Center that first night with more respect than I'd ever had for (Bear). And I respected him more than anybody I know. I knew that I could always count on  him. Every few years we need to remember that dogs are a man's best friend. And that they talk to us. They tell us what they need, but they also tell us what we need. And they'll protect us. Among the heroes that day and the days following, are the four-legged ones: Search-And-Rescue (SAR) dogs who reported dutifully to the scene with their handlers an...

Wolf of the FiveSibes™ Salutes all K-9 Heroes T oday, March 13, marks K9 Veterans Day in honor of our four-legged heroes of the past, present, and future. We salute you. March 13, 1942 marks the official birthday of the United States K9 Corps when more than 10,000 dogs were recruited and went through eight weeks of basic training. We don't often think of Siberian Huskies as being war dogs. But they were one of the seven breeds of the K-9 Corps. According to History.com, "The K-9 Corps initially accepted over 30 breeds of dogs, but the list was soon narrowed to seven: German Shepherds, Belgian sheep dogs, Doberman Pinschers, Collies, Siberian Huskies, Malamutes, and Eskimo dogs....After basic obedience training, they were sent through one of four specialized programs to prepare them for work as sentry dogs, scout or patrol dogs, messenger dogs or mine-detection dogs. In active combat duty, scout dogs proved especially essential by alerting patrols to the approach o...
