February is National Pet Dental Health Month

Image
Open up and say, "Ahhhhh!" With February being National Pet Dental Health Month , it's a good time to review our pet's dental health regimen to be sure that what we are doing to keep our furkids' chompers clean and healthy is on target.  First , a few quick questions:   Do you brush your pet's teeth? (There are a variety of "brushes" from traditional to a finger-style brush, a sponge, and wipes). Do you pe rform periodic mouth inspections to be sure there are no broken teeth ; sores, abrasions , or growths on the gums/tongue ; or foul odor from the mouth? Do you gi ve your dog de ntal treats or dental specific it ems to chew on? Do you have your veterinarian give your pet a dental check-up during visits?     Pictured abo ve , our Harely shows off her canines...and while our girl does have good teeth, with age (she is now eight) t here is some tartar build up in the back, so under the direction of her vet, we are keeping a close wat...

Howloween is Almost Here! Time for Treats and Treating!

Image
We are so excited that Howl-oween is almost here! And that means treat time! We're joining Jack and Moo of the Cybersibes again this year in their third annual Show Us Your Treat Jar event! Our collection of paw print treat jars has changed little over the years, with the exception of the addition of a few air tight canisters to keep all the homemade treats fresh. With the recent onslaught of treat recalls, we've taken to whipping up homemade treats more frequently now, and the Sibes love it. They get all excited from the baking aromas in anticipation of the treats! Above is a collage of Harley, Gibson, Wolf, Chloe, and Bandit in all of their treat glory...and you can see a few of our treat jars in the photos!   As part of this event, Jack and Moo also ask for everyone to think of those furkids who are less fortunate and do not have a home or treats of their own by donating some treats to a local shelter this Howl-oween season. We love this idea and will be doing just t...

Harley: A Magazine Cover Girl!

Image
Current magazine cover girl, our Harley! We are so thrilled that our alpha queen Harley was selected as the cover girl for the current issue (Volume 1; Issue 3) of  American Pet Magazine! Woooo! Of course, your Royal Highness, the Queen, is enjoying every moment of her fame! We are having a copy framed, just in her honor! If you haven't checked out this fairly new online magazine (they debuted last summer and currently have three issues in their first volume series), you must do so! It is full of great pet articles and helpful information on dogs, cats, horses, fishes, ferrets, and more! Now, I'm not singing this publication's accolades because I am a contributing writer and photographer, I'm saying it because it really is super magazine jam-packed with info and articles in each issue. Publisher Suzin Karp, along with her four-legged staff of GypsyPrince, MissKitty, and PeanutButter, have brought pet owners a valuable resource delivered in between the virtual pages...
