Winter Solstice: A Tribute to Our Beloved Snow Dogs

Image
T he longest night...we light a candle in memory of each of our beloved FiveSibes snow dogs—Harley, Gibson, Wolfie, Chloe, and Bandit and also our beloved Sandy and Chelsey (and honorary Husky kitty Smokie) who have all earned their furangel wings. Winter Solstice is a time to pay tribute to these amazing northern breed dogs who loved snow so very much. I like to think of my fab five all together once again having snow zoomies north of the Rainbow Bridge...and...in their own special way, they once again sent me snow today to let me know they are always with me. ❄️ There used to be a site to post tributes to our Siberian Huskies on the Solstices, but sadly it is no longer up. Instead, we share it here on our blog and our FiveSibes: Siberian Husky K9 News & Reviews Facebook page where you can also post a pic of your beloved snow dog under our Winter Solstice post.          Back to our Home Page for the MENU to visit Our #LiveGibStrong On-Line K...

Flashback Friday: Our Original Sled Dog

Image
One of my all-time favorite photos from when my daughter was young was this one taken back 22 years ago with our adopted German Shepherd/Akita "Chelsey." Chelsey and Jenn were best buds. She was an amazing dog, who was so easy to train, and was such a good girl. She would listen to my commands, and perform them perfectly every time. If i asked her to "stay,"  no one, but me, could get her to move! I taught her to "watch" my daughter, which she always did. In this photo, my sister-in-law was creating a family photo album and was doing one of the winter months, and we decided a "reindog" photo would be cute with our girls. So, we staged the photo to look like I "Chelsey was hooked up to a sled with our girls on it in the snow! To this day, this photo brings a chuckle because my daughter and I dubbed it the "grumpy sled dog" photo because if you look closely at Chelsey, she looks like she is snarling and very unhappy. While she was...

Rainbow Bridge Memorial Day Tribute

Image
Celebrating the Lives of Beloved Furangels  Although we always remember of fur loves, August 28th was Rainbow Bridge Memorial Day, and we are joining in to pay tribute to our dearly departed pets who forever hold a dear space in our hearts...   Gibson, my forever heart dog and brave Epi-warrior who  loved me, his Harley and pack family, and life so much. There will never be another that fills my heart like you did, still do, and always will. The bond and understanding we shared was once-in-a-lifetime. My heart still hurts at your absence. You will be forever missed, my beautiful sweet Gibbie.   Our sweet furangel kitty, Smokie, who had been abandoned and found herself to our home and became part of our family for five wonderful years.   May my sweet boy, furangel Gibson, be enjoying some cool breezes with furangel Smokie, North of the Rainbow Bridge. I like to think he's hanging out in the Bridge's grassy fields with my other fur...

Just Cruisin' on a Flashback Friday!

Image
Pre-FiveSibes, our family (and daughter's first) furry best friend was an Akita/German  Shepherd mix we adopted from our local SPCA. Or rather, she adopted us! When we saw her, it was love at first sight - for all of us!  My daughter was just five, and this little puppy started following her all over the shelter, right into our hearts and lives! Chelsey and my daughter grew up together, the very best of friends. She was the best trained dog, always listening to her commands, and always, always right by my daughter's side.  "No symphony orchestra ever played music like a (little) girl laughing with a puppy." ~ Bern Williams Chelsey was about 12 when Harley and then Gibson joined our family, and she was able to engage in a few games of fun with them before she started showing symptoms of canine Alzheimer's. Once the symptoms increased, she retired to resting in sunbeams under my daughter's bedroom window until it was time for her to leave us. It's ...

Puppy Kisses on a Flashback Friday!

Image
Who doesn't love puppy breath and puppy kisses?! For today's stroll down Memory Lane, here is a precious flashback to my daughter when she was just a little girl getting sweet kisses from our local SPCA rescue pup, a beautiful German Shepherd/Akita "Chelsey." These two would grow up together and be best friends for life. Chelsey would always watch over and protect my daughter. And when she grew older, her choice play to nap was on my daughter's laundry pile in front of her window in the sun spot! Flash-forward 13 years, and here's a very grown-up Chelsey getting sweet puppy kisses from our Harley! Chelsey taught baby Harley everything she knew! And to this day, Harley has a few habits that we know she learned directly from her furry teacher! Awwww...puppy kisses...is there anything sweeter?! Happy Flashback Friday! And joining us again this week is our new co-host, those beautiful Sibes and their mom from Love is Being Owned by a Hus...

Flashback Friday

Image
Our FurAngel Chelsey with puppy Harley, circa 2005 I was flipping through some photographs and came across some from when Harley and Gibson were pups! What a pleasant surprise to find these - like jewels - that slipped out from between the pressed pages of a book. With everything being digital nowadays, having an actual photograph to look at versus checking one out online or on our phones is actually quite rare. I was still shooting with a film 35mm camera when Harley and a while later, Gibson joined our family, which consisted, at the time, of just one dog - our rescue German Shepherd/Akita, Chelsey who we adopted as a puppy. Reminiscing over the photos, I thought, "Wouldn't it be fun to do a 'Flashback Friday' every Friday featuring pics of my furbabies when they were pups?" They grow up so fast; it will be nice to take time to reflect upon the joy these puppies have added to our lives by featuring a different photo each Friday. Days go by so fast, som...
